Clippers Win Lottery

by Ben Osborne

Big night in L.A. hoops. While the Lakers prepared to take on the Nuggets (recap coming to the site soon), the Clippers were taking on their horrible past, and lo and behold, they came up with some good news for once. Can’t think of anyone who would’ve “conspired” to give the Clip Joint this pick, so this had to just be some old fashioned good luck.

We’d be worried that Mr. Oklahoma, Blake Griffin, would be tense about heading to Hollywood, but according to this ESPN.com story, Blake has no qualms about being a Clipper. Which, Clippers President Andy Roeser all but guaranteed, is exactly what he’ll be.

I hope the Kings at least get Brandon Jennings if they can’t have Rubio. Please don’t let us get stuck with Thabeet.

  • http://fjdklsf.com Jukai

Okay, everyone knows Blake Griffin goes to the Clippers. Get rid of Camby and Randolph and you got a nice line-up on your hands. Him and Gordon are both raw but athletic players who will do DAMAGE.
Memphis is the second pick… Does it make sense for them to pick Rubio? OKC better trade up and grab the second pick. Memphis needs a big man, ala Hill or Thabeet. Trade down and grab some later round draft picks from OKC.
OJ Mayo and Rubio would be downright humiliating together, and they’d stunt their respective growths struggling for the ball.

WITH THE NUMBER ONE PICK THE LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS SELECT TYLER HANS…………………………………………

  • http://Nicekicks.com Meloman156

i really wanted the kings to get the pick just because they need to go give them fans somethin to cheer about. but the Clips definetly need it so its all good….and F*CK ANTHONY CARTER

  • http://fjdklsf.com Jukai

    haha Royal I love you

  • Andrew

This is great news. Boom Dizzle gets some backcourt help, or a big guy to throw to. Nice.

  • krai

THE LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS trade there first pick to Toronto for Chris Bosh and a player to be named later….

  • doyouwantmore

Somewhere Zach Randolph is finally climbing onto an exercise bike.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    LMFAO @ Royal.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

  • http://www.broy7.com nate the great

haha zach randolph will get convicted for murder.. im sure within 4 days he punches griffin in the face.
i say clips trade bdizzle (no homes tho, no one wants him) and randolph (still no one wants him either.
mike taylor, gordon, thorton, griffin, kaman, or camby,

  • http://www.broy7.com nate the great

if they trade this pick, they are DUMBBBBBBBBBBBB

  • http://twitter.com/TH3_R3AL_CHRIS Young Chris MP3

Kaman is probably their biggest trade asset. Dude’s a beast.

  • http://fjdklsf.com Jukai

Griffin just makes sense for the Clippers, an athletic finisher to grow with Thorton and Gordon.
Taylor will vanish into oblivion. Dude’s just not that great.
I really gotta wonder about Memphis’ pick though.

  • Yassi

….there already is a friend in memphis so ricky might go…….. :-(

Rubio runnin the point in OKC?

  • al

somehow Memphis finds the way to keep signing Spanish players Gasol I, Navarro, Gasol II. Now it looks like they could draft Rubio.
I really hope they don’t, I really hope OKC takes a step forward and switch picks so they can have Rubio running the point together with Westbrook, Durant and Green they would be very exciting to watch. On the other hand, Memphis do not need Rubio. Conley is OK, and Mayo and Gay use the ball too much. Gasol has played very well for a rookie so I think they need a solid PF.
I just hope Rubio winds up playing for OKC, that would be nice

  • Kobe +1

The will pick curry! they need more undersized shooting guards

I’ve heard Memphis might even take Thabeet, seems a little high but he best fits their needs. Mike Conley ended last season strong and I’m pretty sure mgmt likes him as their PG of thef uture, OJ has the two on lock, Rudy Gay as the classic versatile super athletic SF, Hakim Warrick/Darrell Arthur at the PF with Thabeet manning the middle, Marc Gasol backing up Thabeet and possibly getting some time at the four. If they compete on D consistently they could be pretty good. Memphis might be able to move down and still get Thabeet, but how far? Maybe swap with Sacramento, but OKC might take a long look at Thabeet at #3, if Blake and Rubio got 1, 2…

And the Clips haves logjam upfront, but they gotta take Blake. If they could somehow move ZBo (not likely) a Al Thornton, Griffn , Camby frontcourt (Kaman off the bench) could be scary good with BDiddy and Eric Gordon (who I think is gonna have a BIG year) in the back court. Regardless, moving Kaman, Camby or Zbo seems likely if not neccesary.

I’m praying the Spurs figure out a way to buy or trade for someone’s mid-late first rounder and maybe an early 2nd rounded. This draft, while not especially strong or clear in picks 2-13, is sneaky deep. Quite a few mature upperclassmen who I could see having Courtney Lee-type impact on some playoff teams and be solidc ontributors fromthe jump.

  • Roy

I would have jumped on the OKC bandwagon if they got Griffin, that would be tasty with him and durant, westbrook and green dayumm

  • BostonBaller

The Lakers, Cavs & Celts will make a draft day 4 team trade to get the #’s 3, 4 & 5 picks and will only give up 1 player each…Hey, the Clips will be involved.

  • Dave

    God? It’s me, Blake Griffin.

  • Dave

Seriously, they HAVE to take Thabeet. If there’s a sure-fire pick in the draft it’s Griffin. Ergo, the Clips HAVE to take Thabeet. C’mon!

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

    Royal FTW.

  • Tavoris

Clips take Griffin-no suprise in that (altho that pic might be the best trade bait they have with all their bad contracts). Jordan Hill 2 Memphis, Harden to OKC, Thabeet to SAC…everybody fills the holes in their starting lineup and only the Clips are happy

  • http://blogs.myspace.com/originadro Witness

Rubio is not going to OKC. Westbrook is just too good for them to let that happen. Besides, who says Memphis isnt trading down in this draft? I can see them taking Hill. After all they have a void at the PF position.

  • http://blogs.myspace.com/originadro Witness

@ Tavoris: The Kings have Spencer Hawes, who is improving mightily. The Thunder should draft a 2 guard to come off the bench to provide offense but I dont see them making that move with Sefalosha on that team still. I think Jennings goes to Sactown

  • rav

    rip blake griffin’s career

  • http://hoops4life.com overtime

noooo, dam i actually like most of the top 3 guys, I’d hate to see any of them go to Clipper land

  • http://nbacheapseats.blogspot.com Chendaddy

Ditto rav. No knock to Blake Griffin, but you need to have a special kind of ice-cold character to survive the stinginess, apathy, and incompetence that is Donald Sterling. Like Elton Brand. I blame him for screwing Baron Davis like that, but can you really blame the guy for taking the money and jumping ship after dealing with Sterling’s bullscheisse for so many years?

  • The Last Kings Fan

Tavoris, the Kings definitely take Rubio if somehow he’s still available, if not they take Jennings. I’m seeing it go Griffin, Thabeet, Rubio, Jennings….

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Witness: You don’t think Westbrook could play the two? The Rubio-Westbrook one-two punch would be downright sickening defensively, they’d be just like Cleveland’s front-court, undersized but incredibly talented defensively. I mean, Thabeet certainly makes sense for OKC too (Jordan Hill not so much… raw offensively, raw defensively, I don’t know, they need someone whose solid and will improve at their own rate)… but Memphis is one of those teams whose wing players score on isos and crossovers and shooting off the dribble. What good would a need-the-ball point guard do for Memphis? I believe Durant and Green could be GREAT on catch-and-shoot plays. Gay and Mayo, not so much.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I’m also torn with the Kings pick. They need a point guard, so Jennings makes sense… but there are a LOT of point guards in the draft, I know the Kings have at least one more draft pick, so maybe they should take another guy like Harden or Hill? I don’t know. Hard on ethere.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

hahahaha meant to say hard one there. Hard on, talking about the NBA draft, I’m a basketball fan damnit!

  • Marco

Sterling has already called Al Davis to see if he is available for a consulence

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Anyone think Sacramento might try to trade up to get Rubio? If I were the Clips and I could get some one to take Baron or Z-BO off my hands I’d be listening…
If someone takes Jordan Hill in the top 5 they are retarded, Memphis definitely won’t they already have a couple skinny PFs (Darrel Arthur, and Hakim Warrick) they really need to draft Thabeet, which could allow them to play Gasol off the bench as a C and/or start him as their PF. Memphis could trade down and still get Thabeet, or they could just draft Rubio and trade him to the highest bidder…

  • http://fdskfl.com Jukai

Ciolkstar: I Really expect a memphis draft-and-trade with OKC. OKC’s got a lot of extra picks in this year’s draft. Memphis wants a lot of young players.
Although it certainly wouldn’t be TERRIBLY if the Thunder got Thabeet, he’d fit in pretty good too.

  • Ellis

I think the Knicks made out well with the 8th pick. If all goes as planned they will draft Steph Curry, he would fit in very well in their fast pace 3 point slinging offense. As far as the top picks, I was really hoping OKC would get the #1 pic. Think about it Westbrook, Durant, Greene, Griffin….GEEZZ! I have no clue what Memphis will do with their pick(they dont need a pg Mike Conoly jr. is decent and Rubio wouldnt fit in). OKC needs a center so im guessing Thabeet. Sac needs a point they should trade with Memphis and snag Rubio.

Im interested to see what Clips do with their roster. They will now have 4 bigs, Camby,Kaman,ZBo, and now Griffin, I think Camby is the easiest deal cuz he is a solid player and has one year left on his contract. Good luck shipping ZBO lol.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Blake Griffin is going to sign with Olympiacos.

  • Josh D

I think they should trade away at least two of their 3 best post players(Randolph,Kaman,Camby) this offseason this is kinda worrying if you look at the Clips two previous No.1 picks, Michael Olowkandi and Danny Manning

  • Feng

Sacramento should get Brandon Jennings since now they’re at 4th…

  • Feng

    smh

  • Ellis

I am also interested in what G-State will do they got plenty of young good players still on their roster (Auzubukie,Cj Watson,Marrow, Anthony Rudolph) seems like their best option is to grab a point guard in Jennings he could back up Watson, they will need a point guard since i know for sure they aint resigning Williams.

  • Quail

Clippers gotta take Griffin and move Kaman. He is better traid bait than Randolph. Then the grizzlies will take either Hill or Thabeet (more than likely, i’d say Thabeet). then the Thunder will take Thabeet if he’s left. and if he’s not, its gonna be Rubio. then sactown will get the best available PG. I’d almost be willing to bet that’s how it goes.
