LeBron James is Your 09 MVP

And the results are near-unanimous.

by Ryne Nelson

It was much more than just an individually dominant season. For LeBron James, ’08-09 was a year of league/franchise-best records, playful pre-game photo opps, and now-infamous crab dribbling. And, of course, there was that unwavering focus.

The Cavs were stronger as a unit, but LeBron did it all, gaining the respect of his detractors, who said he didn’t crave victory enough to win the MVP. His game has always been about brute strength, but the desire and leadership were the difference this season. As first reported in Plain-Dealer:

According to a league source, LeBron James will be named the NBA Most Valuable Player this afternoon.

James has chosen to have the announcement at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron. All his Cavs teammates are expected to be there as well as representatives from Kia, which will give him a new car as part of the honor.

Congrats to Bron Bron, who also finished No. 2 Defensive Player of the Year voting. He’s the second youngest to be named MVP, behind only Wes Unseld. You’ll recall it was LeBron’s acceptance of Unseld’s throwback jersey that stripped him of his eligibility back in high school. Let’s hope he wears that jersey again today.

Congrats to Lebron! More than deserving!

Hi Ryan. Tell Bron to give me that Kia.

It is, perhaps, a sign of what’s wrong with this society when thousands upon thousands of people are out of work (or about to be), and LeBron James or all people is about to be given a brand-new economy car.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

SURPRISE!!!! would be too obvious, wouldn’t it?

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

That said, this isn’t exactly shocking.

he don’t need that kia…holla a me haha

    Myles. Russ.

  • riggs

will dwyane wade have to turn gatorade into wine or resurrect alonzo’s legs to get this award?

  • cdef28

Hopefully Lebron pulls a Dirk and loses to the Hawks.

  • Tavoris

riggs, Wade ain’t gonna get one of these until Beasley turns into a bonafide all-star (and gives him enuf help 2 make a deep run into the playoffs). That may actually happen as soon as next season.

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

Uhm, if that happens today, did I miss something? When will the M.I.P. be named then? I really don’t get it.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

well duh. In related news, it was found that the grass is green.

  • ENDS

nah they make them donate it to a local charity or kids center. Dwight got the same thing and as they presented him with the car they said and you”ll donate it to the local B&G club

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Hey Ryan. As the Fifth Horseman, will you be lauded from the podium? “This wouldn’t have been possible without Ryan Jones, who once bought me three milkshakes in one night.” (Apologies if my memory is faulty.)

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

Anyone? Did I miss something? MIP? When?

  • Syk

congrats to Lebron. He deserved it.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Lebron, please pull a dirk, we need this from you agree cdef28. Also the key to this team is the under appreicated Mo Williams, he was the key to the Cavs winning 66 games with his shooting skills and leadership skills at the point. Lebron finally got a point guard to help when people double from the top of the key. Kobe didn’t want this award anymore plus anyway, who wants to win back to back MVP’s if Steve “overrated” Nash can. Kobe will be happy with his Bill Russell Award in his house in JUNE!!

  • Jumpman3224

I am a Life Long lakers fan and I approve this message. LeBron deserved this award this year. Please no more boo-hooing for Dwyane Wade his team only won 43 games this year and finished third in his own division. His leading the league in scoring and getting 43 wins doesn’t compare to the season Kobe had a few back when he put up 35 a game and won 45 and he didn’t walk away with the trophy. I hope the Lakers can keep focused and remember that game six beating they took last June. The battle for the the Championship and the Bill Russell award is going to be bananas.

  • IndyB.

Gerard…apparently the league is saving the only postseason award with any intrigue for last…

  • IndyB.

& I hope its Danny Granger

  • http://lamarcusaldridge.com Dean Tharp

    Labron can suck my d!ck

  • riggs

@Tavoris: then wouldnt that make the award null and void if he needs a teammate to be better so he can be MVP?

@ Dean that you are a flamming homo

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

But seeing as how I not only contributed to his nutritional needs but also once rebounded for him while he was shooting around during a photo shoot, you’re f*cking a right I better get a shout-out. Not to mention the Kia.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Oh, yes, it was quite jovial.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Jukai, great rant. I will take your information in too consideration—NOT!!!. I never said Kobe deserves the MVP, Lebron should get it, but all these people acting like Lebron has no talent around him are dumb. Lebron can’t do it by himself see Spurs FINALS 4-0. I like Cavs role players, because they are defensive oriented to me better than the Lakers players. I was joking about Kobe not wanting it to be in the same breath as the Great White Hope called Nash. Not the other players. But Kobe will win the Bill Russell award and Jukai, you can say The Seed told you so. Also it alright to channell The Seed, just make sure its not Howard Seed with the W coming first. Also don’t blank out anymore, your writing sucks when you do.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Justin Walsh

@Ryan Jones: Dennis Page is one helluva guy. When I met him in NY, I was blown away.

  • Steve NeBraska

It’s amazing how the kid can do everything no one expected him to do, go against all naysayers, and finally prove to people he’s serious about basketball…and we all kick him as if he hasn’t worked hard, improved on things they chidle him about. Ah well,…that’s life. Congrats, LeBron. Do you..and don’t choke against the Hawks.

  • http://www.myspace.com/linkstigatorkevin Kevin Wilson

Hey Riggs, when Dwyane Wade wins 66 games and leads his team in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks, he’ll definitely have my MVP vote.

This is like a haters holiday huh? You people would find something to complain about with something so blatantly obvious.

  • Jacob

KING JAMES!!!!!! Lebron deserved it, congrats LBJ

  • cdef28

Donone if you just referred to Lebron James as “Mr. Smooth” you should watch a Cavs game. He is the furthest thing from smooth.

  • playboy

lmao..3 chips in the next 6 years? haha for some reason your thinkin he’s kobe bryant. i predict ZERO CHAMPIONSHIps in the next 6 years. if that happens will the chosen one still be the greatest to you? haha everyone just keeps talkin bout potential, six years no championship–no shot, no d. So..what has he been working on the past 6 years?

  • scruffz

    Should have been you, Wade.

  • Kas

cdef28 – wow! greatest comment ever. watching james play is like watching grass grow(boring) sprinled with an overweight pig doing number two on said grass(still boring, but also disgusting, sickening etc). a shame for all real basketball fans out there, who actually look beyond the stat sheet

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

We look at W’s, and guess who has the most? your ignorance is embarassing, enjoy your hater sandwich jealous mo’s

  • cdef28

Kas I’m not sure I’d agree with all of that but I do agree with looking beyond the stat sheet. Lebron has the ball the entire game and his averages are slightly ahead of Kobes. He has to have the ball to be an efficient player, unlike the true greats.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

cdef28: actually, Lebron is only involved in 1% more of the offense than Kobe. I mean, if you believe anything you read on basketball-reference and all, which is a totally biased, Lebron-loving site, amiright?

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

as Jukai pointed out, LeBron James out-did Kobe Bryant in SCORING, ASSISTS, REBOUNDING, SHOOTING PERCENTAGES, BLOCKS, STEALS, PER, OFFENSIVE WIN SHARE, DEFENSIVE WIN SHARE, TS%, +/-, AND HAD MORE WINS FOR HIS TEAM, Thats literally everything, you people are just short of completely retarted. Oh and you Dwayne Wade jockers, he only improved his team by 28 games, which is great n all, but LeBrons squad improved by 21 games and were already in the upper half of the east last year. There is no LOGICAL reason to complain about LeBron, Cleveland, or who did or didn’t win the MVP award.

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com B. Long

Is Viatimin Water paying you people for this?

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Jukai, don’t even bother. I’m way past trying to argue with the kobe fanboys that don’t even want to look at the facts. They’ll have you believe that Kobe is scoring less than Bron this year because he’s taking a backseat although he actually took more shots than Bron this year. They’ll tell you that Bron assists are cheap because the guys shoot it right away (disregarding that it’s actually Bron that got them wide open)… I’ll stop there.

  • cdef28

Jukai they need to measure how long Lebron has the ball, not the percentage of plays he is in. Lets be real: Love Lebron or not, that fact is not true.

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

How long he has the ball? I am pretty sure length of time with the ball has no barring on any statistic ever……except maybe turnovers, lets figure this out real real easy, the Suns played 7 seconds or less basketball for 5 years, that means they had the ball for LESS amount of time then the rest of the league per possession, and guess what, they lead the league in all offensive categories. CDEF28- every team has the same 24 second shot clock

  • cdef28

Nbk, all I am saying is when you look at Lebron’s assists numbers, don’t assume he is the biggest team player. In order to get assists you need the ball and he has the rock at all times. I consider him just an athlete rather than a basketball player because he still just relies on his athletic ability. And to all you people saying “Give Lebron more time”, I laugh. When he loses SOME of his athleticism he will not be the same player, whereas Kobe has gotten better with age.

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

Yeah because you see his athleticism as his only attribute>? Your really that stupid? Yeah I know another insult we don’t need to be throwing those out there blah blah. If he was all athleticism as you claim then he would be josh smith. LeBron Shoots BETTER (higher %) then Kobe Bryant. Averages LESS turnovers, and he is only going to get better with age. He is a human being, and just like you, will eventually get better at whatever it is you do everyday, LeBron will surely get better at basketball. I hope you enjoy hating someone so much, especially someone you would stop dead in your tracks for if you saw him in public, someone who has so utterly dominated every player you have ever looked up to before he hits the age of 25 that you have to LOOK for excuses to hate, even if there is no logic connected to your reasoning.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

LeBron and Kobe are both great at basketball. Everybody go home.

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

    thank you Ryan

  • cdef28

I don’t hate him, I don’t hate anyone. I would not stop dead if I saw him because, like you said, he’s just a regular person like you or I. In all honesty though, who do you consider a more fluid basketball player as far as skills: Lebron or Kobe?

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com B. Long

    Dance puppets…dance.

  • Lz – Cphfinest3

Deserved. Congrats LeBron. Cavs vs. Lakers Finals. Cavs in 7.

  • Lz – Cphfinest3

The Herd sure is out for blood today. Blue blood.

  • cdef28

Ryan, let me ask you: Kobe or Lebron?

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

cdef28, you know what was the BIGGEST damn draw about Magic Johnson which no one complains about? That dude had the ball all the freaking time. Same with John Stockton. I bet, if those dudes, they didn’t have the rock in their hands all the time, they wouldn’t have gotten NEARLY as many assists!!!

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

and I agree with cdef28: because Kobe is more fluid with the rock, Lebron must have no skill at all and he’s all athleticism. This makes sense people.

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

Kobe, but that doesn’t mean I would rather have Kobe on my team. If I was playing a 48 minute game and wanted to WIN, I would pick LeBron. If I was playing a game to 1 point then I would probably pick Kobe.

  • Kas

no one needs to look for reasons to hate lebron. watch one of his games: you’ll love the boxscore, but his game isn’t a game that young kids will go to the playground and emulate (and if so, the nba will be ruined in 10-15 years.)
he might’ve deserved mvp (can’t believe i’m saying that) but he sure looks like a mid 90′s robot on the court.

and also, i feel like he forces himself to be “funny” with all the comercials and the pre-game photos and stuff, when he really isnt that guy. i feel kind of embarrased watching it. plenty of reasons to like kobe more.

i’m in norway, it’s 9.15 pm here, celtics up 15 on the magic at the half and kobe warming up in LA. greetings from the future.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    That’s a great question, cdef28.

  • vmcb

LeBron’s winning of the award over Kobe has ensured I get a free case of beer from a friend. Thank you, LeBron James.

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

Jukai – That should only tell you how great and trustworthy those two were with the ball. Not how overblown there stats are, no matter what happens they got the ball to the right players in the right places and thats what made them so great. You can’t use their greatest skill, (taking care of the ball and making the right decisions) to lessen their legacy. Unless I totally misunderstood your point.

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

Kas he has been that way his whole career, and unless you know him personally your opinion is totally made up and constructed out of fantasy.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

NBK: Jesus christ and a half man, I was being sarcastic. If you can at any day get ten assists by being able to constantly hit open teammates, YOUR TEAM DAMN WELL BETTER GIVE YOU THE BALL.
I know Lebron nearly averaged 30 this year, but I think he’s better as a point guard. So I hate hearing how he controls the ball more than Kobe. If Kobe didn’t turn the damn ball over everytime he tried to make a showtime pass, he’d have the ball more too.

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

SLAMfam: has it ever happened before that the MVP award was handed out before the MIP award? Granger or Harris are probably out of the country enjoying a holiday by the time they hand it out.

And by the way, that IS his personality, I play ball with a guy from Akron who has known LeBron (not like family, he was closer to LeBrons surrogate father Eddie Jackson) and he told me LeBron is not much different then how he portrays himself to the media.

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

Jukai I said unless I totally misunderstood your point lol which obviously I did, and we agree so my bad

  • Kas

nope, just feels really akward watching him doing those things. bet a lot of other people feel it to, like he is forcing a nike-constructed version of himself into every living room in the world.

Im not LBJ’s biggest fan. I get annoyed by all of the bandwagon Cavs fans that have come out of the woodwork here in Ohio, but whether you prefer Kobe or LeBron there is no way anyone in their right mind can dispute either one’s greatness. So just enjoy it.

  • bulldog

You say tomato and I say tomotto -It’s all the same. Basically would you rather be run over by the Mack truck (Lebron) or do you prefer to be carved alive by the Mamba (Kobe)? Feed the beast – Lebron flat out DOMINATED, gets the MVP award this year and deservedly so.

I can’t believe people are arguing that Kobe is more “real.”
    This is the Bizarro World.

  • jrp14

Anyone who thinks that Wade seriously deserrves this is either 10 or functionally retarded. If thats the case then AI should have about 5 MVP awards. All Wade did was put up great stats on a weak team…their inflated numbers. Kobe had a great year, but he didnt do one thing better then lebron other then maybe 3pt and free throw percentage, I think their 3pt percentage was pretty close though. Lebron put up averages only 2 other guys in history ever have. All the while, he was the most entertaining player in the league, oh and his team had the best record in the league. Why does it matter anyway, we all know Roy is better then Lebron AND Kobe

  • jrp14

That was just some Ron Ron humor btw…but I am a Blazer fan, and a Washington resident so I took joy in that comment. Roy definitely isnt too far behind anyone when it comes to his offensive repertoire though…anyone who has seen enough Blazer games would agree I believe

  • YusufCelticfan

I can’t hate on Lebron, it’s well deserved…so congrates and may you win many more (MVP awards). Though saying that Dwade shouldn’t have been considered or even have won the award is going too far. Remember Dwade is 6’3 and yeah he did put up great numbers on a bad team, which shouldn’t be a negative when it comes to voting. You figure every time he was doubled teammed it was all the more reason why he had to throw up a hail mary three point bank shoot(just ask the Hawks). But nuff said…lets see the MVP get by the Celtics, let alone beat the Lakers.

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

he is 6’4 with a 6’9 inch wing span. Hardly undersized

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

    NBK
He’s undersized for the two. That was one of the big concerns about him coming out of college. Was he big enough to play the two.

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

Allen, do you really think he is undersized or are you just repeating a concern? He just had more blocks then any guard in NBA history, and jumps higher then most all of his competition. And has longer arms, if anything he equates to a big 2 once factoring in more then how tall his head is.

Sorry ciroqobama, did you ever see me say LeBron sucks? I didn’t even say he wasn’t great. All I said was his athleticism helps him more than his basketball skills.

    NBK
I think the prototypical two guard is 6’6″ or 6’7.”
DWade is only one inch taller than Steve Nash’s listed height.
Do I think you have to be a certain height to succeed at the two, nah. But, I do think that Wade is a bit undersized for his position.

  • http://basketball-reference.com nbk

I get what your saying Allen but logically, taking away how tall dwayne wades head is, and thinking in basketball related terms (how high his arm reaches) and how much he weighs would you really consider him undersized?

  • CDef28

Yeah nbk, Dwyane is probably not undersized. It would be nice for him to be a couple inches taller though, but it really doesn’t matter.

  • jumpman3224

scruffz: Actually Wade did less (43 wins) with less.

  • http://effyou@heythere.com Allenp

    NBK
I’m not sure you’re asking me to think logically.
You’re asking me to agree with you based on a criteria you’ve set.
I think Joe Johson is the protypical size for a point guard. Wade is a bit smaller. His wingspan and hops help him make up the difference, but ultimately, he’s giving up some height.
Those two inches are important, just like the two inches between 6’8″ and 6’10″ are important.
Is Wade incredibly successful, sure. But so is Allen Iverson due to his ridiculously long arms and crazy quickness. He’s still undersized.
And yes, I know that is an extreme example.

dont even compare iverson to wade sorry

Nothing on Lebron, who thoroughly deserves it. But giving the NBA MVP a brand new car *is* a bit much, Russ is right. What are the odds that an NBA MVP will actually need a new car, since whoever it is he probably makes $15-20m a year on his contract alone? Why not put a car up for grabs for the dunk contest or the 3 point shootout instead?

oo but i was talking to you sooo

UPDATE: If you haven’t listened to or watched the press conference the car was donated to an Akron charity in MVLBJ’s name.

scruffz: Actually Wade did less (43 wins) with less.
    ——————–

Compared to 15 wins the season before? Remember, this is the same Dwayne Wade that a lot of people wrote off a few years ago because of his injuries. To go from 15 wins to 43 with the supporting cast he had is pretty damn impressive.

I’m not saying LeBron doesn’t deserve it, but at the same time the Cavs were heavy favorites to win the easy anyway, so it’s not like their success was a surprise.

Ryan, Kevin Love is wondering why he didn’t get mentioned for this award, right?

  • http://fjdklsf.com Jukai

So will Kobe still get the Bill Russel award even if they can’t get past the FREAKING ROCKETS?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

maybe in his dreams, Jukai. he can keep on shooting 31 shots and scoring 32 points, that’s cool. stay away from the team concept, Mambiatch, ya hear? Oh btw, Darth Stern couldn’t make it to Lebron’s high school to present to the guy? really? Lame!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

    Stern don’t do Akron.

  • Allenp

I get where your coming from Allen but it’s not like dwayne wade lacks the ability? Which to me is a combination of size and skills to outrebound most all guards and even small forwards. Blocks is known, there to me is nothing about wades game other then the height of his head that can make me say he is undersized and that’s where I’m coming from. And if this were the 03 draft I would probably feel more similar too your point but it’s not and i’ve seen him play too many times to not say that.

Darksaber: the “he took 31 shots and got ony 32 points” makes no sense. he did a bad job of getting to the line/the refs didn’t make calls. 14-31 is 45%, which is decent for most guards. if i shoot 4-8 in a game, and score 8 points, i have as many points as attemps, but i still shot 50%.

What’s all this argument about? I don’t get it. I don’t know why people keep arguing about who’s better between Lebron and Kobe. I mean, they’re both great! They are the best basketball players in the world as we speak and they ‘ve won the last couple of MVP awards both in the regular season and in the All Star Game. Hopefully they will face each other in the Finals and we will watch a battle for the ages. Til then, just sit down and enjoy the game!

  • jumpman3224

scruffz: Im not saying DWADE didn’t have a great year, but its not fair to compare the Heat from last season with this one. You hit the nail on the head…injuries. He missed like 50 games and played the others hurt last year. They probaly would have won at least 40 games with a healthy Wade that year. The last time Wade was healthy they won 44 games (06-07) and the division. Maybe he deserves come back player since so many people did count him out.

  • http://vnsny.org Spaceship Jay

Oh and you Dwayne Wade jockers, he only improved his team by 28 games, which is great n all, but LeBrons squad improved by 21 games and were already in the upper half of the east last year. GTFOH!

Lebron won the title–OK. People like Kobe’s game more than Lebron’s, based on how Kobe glides through the air on layups, fade away jumpers, spin around jumpers, dribbling through the legs to size up opponents–Lebron game is more based off of power than skill, Lebron can get in the lane and take any bump from anyone and still put up a decent shot, but it doesn’t look better than Kobe doing the same thing. Kobe was the number one selling jersey even though Lebron has all these bad commericals running and Dwade-bad T moblie commericals. Lebron to me is not the best dribbler in the world, but he doesn’t need to with his size, speed and strength. Lebron is Dominique Wilkins
right now, until he wins a championship, because Wilkins was all highlights with dunks, taking bumps and still dunking on you. Lebrons game will change will he gets older, then you will see if he has been working on his skills to me. Right now Lebron and Kobe are 1A together, I am a Kobe fan, but I give Lebron credit for his team success, because I feel he should get the points and rebounds and assits as the go to player, he is a small forward and is suppose to rebound and he has the ball 85% of the time, He should put up good numbers. Lebron gets MVP now Kobe gets Bill Russell Award later is the perfect ending to this season.

  • http://www.okayplayer.com doyouwantmore

I want to like Lebron. I do. But then I read stuff like the story about how he wanted to wear Cavs road jerseys at home so he (or the Cavs) paid a guy to fly all the way to Washington to pick up the Wizards home jerseys. Why? Because the Cavs road jerseys go better with LBJ’s new shoes. Give me a break. He might be the MVP but he also leads the league in douchebaggery. Kobe’s not much better but at least he’s matured a bit. Also, Jukai is definitely a virgin.

“HONOLULU, HI – Just hours after awarding LeBron James his first ever NBA MVP award, the NBA has decided to retract the decision made by the voting sportswriters and give the award to Kobe Bryant instead.

When looking at the situation you realize that LeBron James averaged more points, assists, rebounds, steals, and blocks on top of shooting a higher percentage and brought his team to a better record despite having a weaker supporting cast. However, despite these factors making it seem a slam dunk in favor of LeBron James, there was one thing that Kobe Bryant had at his side that LeBron James could simply not match.

A Kobe Bryant fan said the Kobe should have won the award.

Daniel Stevens, a teenager from suburban Riverside, CA summed it up best. “Kobe is the best ever, he should’ve won MVP!”

When asked about the superior numbers that LeBron James put up and the better record of James’ team, Stevens became irate, letting out a slew of profanities before saying, “I don’t care, Kobe is better!” After that he proceded to say how facts are nothing but lies and that anything that doesn’t proclaim Kobe Bryant to be the greatest athlete of all-time is nothing but mindless hating.

When presented with this evidence, commissioner David Stern had no choice but to take the award away from LeBron James and instead present it to Kobe Bryant.”

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I can’t get over the knock people here are putting on a guy for ‘only being athletic’, and that this somehow is the only thing that equates to success (whether its just stuffing the stat sheet or not…) for LeBron. Think about this. How many of you, here had a ‘very athletic friend’ come and play some hoops down at the local school court, sure he was strong or he might be fast, probably had good hand eye co-ordination to boot! But you could shut him down or lock him out, why?! FUNDAMENTALS…he didn’t know how to pivot correctly, couldn’t make a running layup, cutting through defense, he could be boxed out easy and fell for pump fakes every time?! Your forgetting that LeBron at the end of the day IS a BASKETBALL PLAYER! He knows all these subtle tricks and skills….your undermining the most dominant player in the modern era by saying he’s only successful through athletics. He’s a BASKETBALL PLAYER.

  • Manumaniac

    Dacre,
You are absolutely right. People should stop questioning Lebron’s skills. That dude is a real beast! Besides, as I can recall Kobe is also athletic and MJ was also too athletic at his time. There is nothing wrong about that.
Lebron is working really hard on his game all these years and he has improved to every possible level. He can shoot the three, he has become alot more accurate from the free throw line, he plays the point better than any other forward I can remember, he has even become a better defensive player. I don’ t understand all that hate about this kid. He is an excellent player. He proved that in the recent Olympics and he keeps proving that all this year long.
