Nuggets GM wins Executive of the Year

One trade can make all the nosie, but it’s the moves people forget about that make all the difference: “Aside from the Billups trade, the Nuggets traded Marcus Camby and let forward Eduardo Najera leave in the offseason. In their places the Nuggets signed [Dahntay] Jones, Chris Andersen and Renaldo Balkman, giving them one of the strongest benches in the league at a low cost. ‘I think there’s always a value in going against the grain,’ Warkentien said. ‘When the masses are going one way, you’re a little better off not totally rejecting where they’re going, but if they’re going there you need to look at the other things that are out there.’”

    I was totally thinking ferry would walk away with this one, but in retrospect I would say that this was the right call. I mean going from 8th to 2nd in the WEST speaks for itself.

    Anyone would say that getting rid of Iverson and Camby for bunch of role players was insane… But now this guy looks like a genius… So yes, it’s well deserved. Unlike Celtics management which got this honor last year for getting bunch of superstars on their team, this guy did it unconventional way with addition by subtraction. It’s been working out nicely so far.

    They could have done all those little things, sure—and they all helped to a degree—but if they don’t trade for Billups they’re on vacation right now. Period.

    @ RUSS-agreed. No matter who else they brought to the mile high city. That backcourt of AC and AI was getting them nowhere and no GM is taking home the hardware in that circumstance.

    Gotta love Dahntay Jones: the opposite of Corey Maggette – only defense. And the Birdman was an easy call to make.
    But you gotta think about how good they be if they still had Camby. That’d be alot of tall trees….

    At gerard: pritchard? Seriously? After taking darius’ career hostage and threatening to sue the league? And what has buford done to even be in this discussion? Coaxing bowen’s dirty old a$§ out from the jaws of retirement to try set the most achilles tendons torn on opposing players in a season? This werkerwatsisname guy’s the only clear choice imo
