Josh Smith, Welcome to Trade Rumor-Ville

The rumor mill claims that the Hawks are thinking of moving their high-flying forward: “If you believe what you read, and I’ll warn you that you can’t always do that where NBA rumors are concerned, Josh Smith’s name is generating some serious buzz on the trade rumor mill as the NBA draft approaches. ESPN.com’s NBA Insider Chad Ford claims the big rumor of the day is that the Hawks are shopping Smith (I’ve had two Hawks sources insist to me this afternoon that they aren’t shopping Smith or anything like it, but what else do you expect them to say?), hoping to find a taker for their 23-year-old power forward (the one with the $6 million trade kicker and the love-him-or-hate-him debate stuck to his profile). Normally, I’d take my garbage extinguisher and put down a silly, Hawks-related rumor before it starts burning. But not this one.Even if the Hawks haven’t formally chatted up teams about the prospect of trading Smith, I know it’s been discussed internally.”

Not real, or not cool. Whichever suits best.

I’d expect that Lang could confirm or debunk this rumor. If true and I were Joe Dumars, I would at least inquire about the asking price and go from there.

  • Hotpantz

    Jays moove…………

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

I would take him in a heartbeat if I could get him to agree to a clause in his contract stipulating that he can’t shoot more than 20 threes a year.

  • Mike

Not a surprise, he doesn’t get along with Joe or Mike Woodson. If Cleveland can get him!

  • Dirtybird

How about they shop Woodson instead?

  • Joe

trade him to the suns, him and acie law/claxton for shaq and their first roud draft pick

works for both teams and i would love to see some nash-smith alley oops

Yeah, I guess the Hawks have been a little too good the past 2 years.

So, what are we looking at; a Monta for Smith trade (both disgruntled, talented + Monta lives in ATL area)? Without names being associated in trade scenarios, it is tough to tell how legit these rumors are…

…I suspect that most trades won’t happen until draft day or thereabouts as things become clearer.

    haha @ JE

  • seven deuce

If only Atlanta would have drafted Chris Paul, we wouldn’t be reading this.Or “Marvin Williams, Welcome to Trade Rumor-Ville” next year.

Repeat after me: There is no such thing as an All Star combo forward.

I would take him in a second..

  • nba kid

Kings could make a moove for him, move Spencer Hawes and Francisco Garcia for him.
Both teams have an awesome starting line after that
    Hawks:
    Mike Bibby
    Joe Johnson
    Marvin Williams
    Al Horford
    Spencer Hawes
    with Cisco on the Bench
    Kings:
Brandon Jennings (if they pick him)
    Kevin Martin
    Andres Nocioni
    Josh Smith
    Jason Thompson

Smith for Tyson Chandler sounds good

  • The Cool

Josh Smith to the Heat for Jermaine O’Neal (and a future draft pick)

Then the heat need to somehow get a (much cheaper and younger) defensive/rebounding center

    Chalmers
    Dwade
    J Smoove
    B-Easy
    and the new center
    6th & 7th Man – Haslem and Cook
    2010 NBA Champs

and it (sort of) works for Hawks too, can put Horford back at PF where he is better suited, Marvin can stay at small forward, they get a draft pick, and the expiring contract of O’Neal if they want to sign a big FA in 2010

  • The Cool

Even though he’s not young, Sheed would be the perfect 5 man for the Heat with the above roster, he’s no worse than JO, not much older (if at all, im not sure) and he’d be like 10 Mil cheaper, once he realises his actual market value

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

wow, seven deuce is ON POINT. hell, i’m not sure there’s an all star combo guard either. (guys like gil are not combo, the ball is always in their hands and they’re inefficient when you move them off the ball)

  • http://www.sprint.com/pre dma

Portland needs to get on the phone yesterday somehow. Give them everything short of Oden, Roy, and Aldridge. SICK SICK SICK.

  • http://crashwallace.org nate the great

    yeah i agree with dma.
    roy, smith, aldrige, oden.
and who ever they have left.

  • http://slamonline blaze

besides roy, the fan fav here in portland is travis outlaw. fans here would rather see oden go than TO. as a life long blazer fan, id like to see them move steve blake, i think we could get a better starter, or move bayless to starter, but management has a hard-on for Blake for some reason.

  • Jay-G

Man I’d love to see Josh and Dirk on the same team. Its not Josh’s fault that Al or Marvin haven’t panned out yet.

  • Bruno, RJ

    OVER-RATED

  • niQ

    send him to the Raptors!!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Josh Smith and Monta Ellis to the Raptors somehow.

  • Seven Duece

Although he’s only 23, I just don’t see him developing into a premier PF. His decision making is his biggest weakness. Atlanta would do better trading Williams (swallow that pride) and letting Josh’s burgeoning perimeter game flesh out. He already plays like a wing, just make him one on the roster sheet.

  • clarence Spearman

No way trade MARVIN WILLIAMS, MIKE BIBBY, and a future first, and this year’s second and get Ricky rubi and BJ mullens. Starting lineup
    Ricky Rubio
    Joe Johnson
    josh Smith
    Al horford
    BJ mullens

Or trade joe johnson to the sacrement for the 2nd overall he’s gonna leave any way after this season?

  • COLT6

IMBECILES! WTF ARE YOU ALL SMACKIN’ ABOUT? JSMOOVE IS A PERFECT FIT FOR ATLANTA. GIVE THEM 2 MORE YEARS AND A BETTER COACH (MORE DEMANDING AND MORE DEFENSE-ORIENTED THAN WOODSON) AND THEY WILL BE EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPS. THE CELTS WILL BE TOO OLD BY THEN, ORLANDO WILL STILL BE CHOKIN IN PRESSURE-PACKED GAMES AND LEBRON WILL STILL NOT HAVE ENOUGH BALLS TO TAKE CLEVELAND ALL THE WAY.
MIKE “GORILLAH” BIBBY AND ACIE LAW AT THE POINT. JO AT THE TWO. MARVIN WILLIAMS AND JSMOOVE AT THE 3 AND 4, HORFORD AT THE SLOT. F*CKOUTTAHERE WITH YOUR STUPIDITY. YEAH AND THERE IS SUCH A THING AS AN ALLSTAR COMBO FORWARD, HALL OF FAME EVEN: CHARLES F*CKING BARKLEY! COMBO GUARD? WADE AND THE ANSWER. AND PORTLAND IS FINE JUST LIKE THE HAWKS, BOTH NEED TIME. GET YOUR MIND RIGHT!

  • BAYAREA_GANGSTA

if the warriors can get josh smith it would be crazy… i cant think of anyone who would fit in more than he can… we gonna swap monta and whatever is needed for j-smoove

    PG: brandon jennings/watson/belinelli
    SG: jackson/morrow
    SF: buike/maggette
    PF: j-smoove/randolph
    C: biedrins/turiaf
