Josh Smith, Welcome to Trade Rumor-Ville

The rumor mill claims that the Hawks are thinking of moving their high-flying forward: “If you believe what you read, and I’ll warn you that you can’t always do that where NBA rumors are concerned, Josh Smith’s name is generating some serious buzz on the trade rumor mill as the NBA draft approaches. ESPN.com’s NBA Insider Chad Ford claims the big rumor of the day is that the Hawks are shopping Smith (I’ve had two Hawks sources insist to me this afternoon that they aren’t shopping Smith or anything like it, but what else do you expect them to say?), hoping to find a taker for their 23-year-old power forward (the one with the $6 million trade kicker and the love-him-or-hate-him debate stuck to his profile). Normally, I’d take my garbage extinguisher and put down a silly, Hawks-related rumor before it starts burning. But not this one.Even if the Hawks haven’t formally chatted up teams about the prospect of trading Smith, I know it’s been discussed internally.”

    I’d expect that Lang could confirm or debunk this rumor. If true and I were Joe Dumars, I would at least inquire about the asking price and go from there.

    I would take him in a heartbeat if I could get him to agree to a clause in his contract stipulating that he can’t shoot more than 20 threes a year.

    So, what are we looking at; a Monta for Smith trade (both disgruntled, talented + Monta lives in ATL area)? Without names being associated in trade scenarios, it is tough to tell how legit these rumors are… …I suspect that most trades won’t happen until draft day or thereabouts as things become clearer.

    Kings could make a moove for him, move Spencer Hawes and Francisco Garcia for him.
    Both teams have an awesome starting line after that

    Josh Smith to the Heat for Jermaine O’Neal (and a future draft pick) Then the heat need to somehow get a (much cheaper and younger) defensive/rebounding center Chalmers

    J Smoove
    B-Easy
    and the new center
    6th & 7th Man – Haslem and Cook
    2010 NBA Champs and it (sort of) works for Hawks too, can put Horford back at PF where he is better suited, Marvin can stay at small forward, they get a draft pick, and the expiring contract of O’Neal if they want to sign a big FA in 2010

    Even though he’s not young, Sheed would be the perfect 5 man for the Heat with the above roster, he’s no worse than JO, not much older (if at all, im not sure) and he’d be like 10 Mil cheaper, once he realises his actual market value

    wow, seven deuce is ON POINT. hell, i’m not sure there’s an all star combo guard either. (guys like gil are not combo, the ball is always in their hands and they’re inefficient when you move them off the ball)

    besides roy, the fan fav here in portland is travis outlaw. fans here would rather see oden go than TO. as a life long blazer fan, id like to see them move steve blake, i think we could get a better starter, or move bayless to starter, but management has a hard-on for Blake for some reason.

    Although he’s only 23, I just don’t see him developing into a premier PF. His decision making is his biggest weakness. Atlanta would do better trading Williams (swallow that pride) and letting Josh’s burgeoning perimeter game flesh out. He already plays like a wing, just make him one on the roster sheet.
