    Mark Jackson to Coach Minnesota?

    by Ben Osborne

Pro Basketball News is reporting that Mark Jackson is going to be named the new head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Multiple sources have told Pro Basketball News that Mark Jackson has emerged as the leading candidate for the position and will wind up with his first coaching gig.

Jackson, 44, has worked as a lead analysts on broadcasts for ESPN/ABC since 2007 and was linked to the New York Knicks opening filled by Mike D’Antoni last offseason. He’s made no secret of his desire to coach in the NBA, telling reporters in L.A. just last week that it’s “been a dream of mine, like anyone who’s ever played the point guard position and has been the extension of the coach on the floor. I’ve been tempted to run a show my entire life.”

Given the utmost confidence I have in Mark, arguably the biggest overachiever in NBA history, we may not be calling them the “L-Wolves” much longer.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHY IM AWAKE…BUT IM ALWAYS ON SLAMMMMMMM
BEN..I LIKE THAT YOUR ALWAYS WORKING HARD

    • Darksaber Posted: Jun.19 at 3:20 am
Poor Mike Breen, as Game 5 wound down he practically begged Jax and JVG NOT to go back into coaching and to come back to the booth next season… Both Mark and Jeff just gave him a tired smile (guess negotiations were already (in the final stages)…

    • Ben Osborne Posted: Jun.19 at 3:21 am
Mr.GOODE, Mark brings out the best in me.

    • Darksaber Posted: Jun.19 at 3:22 am
I have this sneaky feeling that Mark’s gonna be a very good Headcoach… after the initial up’s and down’s of a newbie in that position.. he seems to really understand the game from all aspects, and listening to him explain B-Ball is nice

    • Darksaber Posted: Jun.19 at 3:23 am
I concur: Mark’s gonna be a good Coach (after the initial ups and downs of a Newbie Nba Coach). Call it intuition.

    • Darksaber Posted: Jun.19 at 3:24 am
aww geez, slam server probs. are killing me.

    • Jukai Posted: Jun.19 at 3:33 am
He may be a great coach, but uhm… they’ll be the L-Wolves until they get talent.

    • The Cool Posted: Jun.19 at 3:42 am
      Al jefferson’s got game

    • The Cool Posted: Jun.19 at 3:45 am
and cue the do*che who was on Telfair’s nuts, trying to convince everyone he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread.

    • Ben Osborne Posted: Jun.19 at 4:02 am
Watch the pleasant language, The Cool. Not sure I get who you’re aiming at.

    • Word of God Posted: Jun.19 at 4:18 am
Let’s see, a novice GM hires Jackson who has never coached. Yea, the recipe for success?

    • Joey E. Posted: Jun.19 at 5:17 am
no way, no way. You get rid of McHale for Jackson? yikes. I really don’t think he can make a good NBA coach. Listening to him throughout these playoffs makes me think this. no way. but i hope he gets the job so i can see him fail

    • Hubert Posted: Jun.19 at 5:41 am
Is JVG not interested in the position? I believe he is way better than Mark Jackson when it comes to coaching and holding on to opposing players’ legs.

    • Freedom Fries Posted: Jun.19 at 5:48 am
Great great great news for the woofies. Thanks for the heads up

    • Gerard Himself Posted: Jun.19 at 7:10 am
I’d like to see this happen. Mark Jackson should at least be able to give some nice post-game interviews.

    • Cheryl Posted: Jun.19 at 8:39 am
Aww man! I’m gonna miss Mark and Jeff and Mike doing the play-by-plays. I’m happy for him if that’s what he wants, but I sure will miss him on air.

    • WhaHuh Posted: Jun.19 at 8:48 am
      mama there goes that man

    • jumpman3224 Posted: Jun.19 at 8:48 am
I hope this happens, as much as I like the play by play crew he analyzes more like a coach than anyone when doing a game and deserves a chance!

    • Czar Ruke Posted: Jun.19 at 8:51 am
Well I feel like a horse’s a$$ for my Mark Jackson comments. I still see him putting in 2 years for a bad team and then get fired for not making the playoffs. Of course, talent will be a huge factor.

    • Czar Ruke Posted: Jun.19 at 8:52 am
This will be more of a D-League job for him I guess. Then maybe sign with a quality franchise.

    • YKnot Posted: Jun.19 at 9:10 am
Will Troy become the new mascot, or is the international and1 thing too good to pass up? If Telfair doesn’t fair well(ha ha) he could pull a Bill Russell and be player/coach!

    • Babygab Posted: Jun.19 at 9:15 am
Every body in here can suck my D_ck

    • Jeff Fox Posted: Jun.19 at 9:27 am
Anthing to get Jackson off of the airwaves would be appreciated by me!

    • Lang Whitaker Posted: Jun.19 at 9:31 am
Of course this is the same site that said the Cavs were firing Mike Brown…

    • B. Long Posted: Jun.19 at 9:33 am
Good for Mark. Lets just hope his New York point guard bias doesn’t keep Sebastian starting when he shouldn’t be. MIKE MILLER! YOUR BETTER THAN THAT!

    • Moose Posted: Jun.19 at 9:41 am
Good for Mark, as B. Long said. I have faith that he’d be a good coach, but I’d miss his analysis on TV. But his basketball IQ is unquestionably above average.

    • TADOne Posted: Jun.19 at 9:54 am
Why the hell are you guys up at 3 am???!

    • John Delaware Posted: Jun.19 at 10:14 am
I’m in Minneapolis, and Mark Jackson would be good for the Timberwolves and the city of Minneapolis. Mark has a calm demeanor, I think he has potential. Now, how are the Twolves going to handle this draft is the question? If they keep the number 6 pick, I expect them to draft Tyreke Evans or Jonny Flynn. I think Randy Foye will be traded on draft day.

    • Babygab Posted: Jun.19 at 10:38 am
I’m happy for Mark but I’m gonna miss the broadcasting Jeff/Mark combo !!!! Good luck my man !!!

    • riggs Posted: Jun.19 at 12:17 pm
im going to wait til the wolves start losing again and see how long it takes for people to burn mark at the stake.

    • Anton Posted: Jun.19 at 12:57 pm
Mama there goes that man’s enjoyment of work.

    • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jun.19 at 1:46 pm
Good luck Mark! You da magician!

    • niQ Posted: Jun.19 at 1:48 pm
This almost GUARANTEES the Wolves in getting a Point Guard. Mark is starting fresh with a fresh new point guard.

    • Luke Posted: Jun.19 at 2:31 pm
COME ON MARK..YOU’RE BETTER THAN THAT!

    • Phil Posted: Jun.19 at 3:24 pm
Mark Jackson stinks as a broadcaster so he might as well try coaching.

    • nate the great Posted: Jun.19 at 3:33 pm
im interested in who they would trade, and who they get.
i hear the phionex and suns might trade bigs.

    • Josh D Posted: Jun.19 at 3:59 pm
They should get Charles Barkley to coach a NBA Team

    • niQ Posted: Jun.19 at 4:11 pm
the phoenix and suns might trade bigs huh? with themselves? :P

    • The Cool Posted: Jun.19 at 6:34 pm
My bad Ben, i just remember some guy who wouldn’t calm down about telfair on here a while back, i think his name was ‘usa4life’ or something close, either way, he was very unpopular

    • Bostonballer Posted: Jun.19 at 6:41 pm
I haven’t read the article or any of the comments yet. I just have to say that if Action Jackson wants to coach I’d stand behind him. Any team needing a coach (especially one with a young talented team)would be crazy not to give him a chance. A four year contract atleast b/c it takes time to mold a team and get them going in the right direction.

    • Blinguo Posted: Jun.20 at 5:24 am
He would have a play called “Mama there goes that man.” Boy it would be awesome to hear him on the white-clip-board gestating to each position and their cuts with only those words. Mama-> there goes(cutter sharpie swipe)->That man(3 pt corner kick out). After the successful play he would point to the 3pt hitter. “Mama there goes that man! That man!” while they get back to the huddle and get daps for the job well done.

    • Blinguo Posted: Jun.20 at 5:26 am
He was however bold enough to point out Kobe should have been called for an offensive foul elbow while Stan and Breen of course slunk in their seats worrying about big brother over their shoulders. Who’s the underdog Point general who will be molded in his image on their roster?

    • Airswade Posted: Jun.20 at 6:27 am
At least we won’t have to listen to him suckin’ Kobe off in the booth.

The T-Wolves are going to be great, just watch. Most of those young guys on the team were able to watch Mark Jackson play with the Pacers, as oppose to Kevin McHale, who they only saw through video footage. Will Escalade join him in the coaching staff?

    • nick Posted: Jun.21 at 2:15 pm
“DAMN!T MIKE WHAT DID I TELL YOU! WHAT HAPPENS WHEN HIS HAND IS DOWN.” “Ummm…man down?” “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO”

    • Saku 39 Posted: Jun.21 at 2:55 pm
I don’t understand why there is such a high demand for him to be a coach. At this point I just don’t know if he’ll be good or not. His playing experience definitely makes him qualified but I never thought his commentary was all that insightful. Plus, you know that teaching defense won’t be his strong suit.

    • Daniel Posted: Jun.21 at 9:22 pm
f is for ferendship and flying and free G is for good as good friends ought to be whats after G and then comes before I H is harold

    • Dacre Posted: Jun.21 at 11:32 pm
      mark jackson…the next avery johnson?

    • Tom Posted: Jun.23 at 9:50 am
Mark Jackson is the most underrated point guard ever! He was a great player, great announcer, and now in time he will be a great coach. Wanted him for the Bulls job last year (although i love what Del Negro is doing)

    • Harlem_World Posted: Jun.24 at 3:40 am
Mark Jackson should have gone to Chi. Tom, you love what Del Negro is doing? Or Del Harris and the rest of his ‘assistants’? Del Negro lucked out with Rose and an always talented team who were underachieving. His coaching SUCKS. Give Chicago a decent coach and they are at least as good as ATL. Plus Mark Jackson coaching Rose only spells good things.
