See Ya, Charlie V

That’s what the Milwaukee Bucks said to their soon-to-be 25 year old forward: ‘The Milwaukee Bucks bid goodbye to Charlie Villanueva on Monday, keeping their fiscal options open while continuing to rebuild the team during the off-season.General manager John Hammond said no qualifying offer would be tendered to Villanueva, who played the last three seasons with Milwaukee after arriving in a June 2006 trade. Hammond did not want to elaborate on the reasons for the decision. The Bucks had to make a $4.6 million qualifying offer by the Tuesday deadline if they wished to retain the 6-foot-11 forward’s rights. The 24-year-old Villanueva will become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday and will be able to sign a contract with any NBA team, beginning July 8.”

Cavs will get Charlie V….then they will have a varajeao and a villenueva on their team.

  • Jukai Posted: Jun.30 at 10:17 am
    uh, wow!

  • jumpman3224 Posted: Jun.30 at 10:17 am
He wants to go to the Cavs…(most) Cavs fans desperately want him to go to the Cavs. The question is how will the signing affect them in the Chris Bosh sweepstakes next summer.

  • Z Posted: Jun.30 at 10:30 am
Cavs have to do it. CV fills a need. There’s no reason on planning for next year since they’re in a position to win THIS year. You stack your team to surround your superstar while you still have him to give him the best shot at winning. They’ll still have cap space and if it’s not Bosh, it’ll be another star like Joe Johnson.

  • rikson Posted: Jun.30 at 10:31 am
Isnt CV from NY -> so what about the knicks?!

  • Z Posted: Jun.30 at 10:44 am
I think guys are finally noticing that shining as a role player on a winning team that gets deep in the playoffs pays more than throwing up empty 20 points game in a sorry franchise. Getting labeled as a ‘winner’ can add zeros to your bank account.

  • Dagga Posted: Jun.30 at 10:50 am
the guy is a bum dont matter where he goes milwaukee is in need of a power forward now and when he was there

  • TADOne Posted: Jun.30 at 10:57 am
I’m thinking that he will be in Detroit Wednesday.

  • thesubwayconnection Posted: Jun.30 at 10:59 am
Seeing as big athletic guys are why Orlando matched up favorably against Cleveland, I think he’d be a good pick up if they want to advance.

  • Z Posted: Jun.30 at 11:08 am
TAD, I thought that Detroit was gettign ready to throw money at Booz and Hedo.

  • Oli Posted: Jun.30 at 11:20 am
charlie v and lebron worked together pretty well in that 2003 mcdonald’s game. he would definitely be an upgrade over andy.

  • Roy Posted: Jun.30 at 11:26 am
Either Sheed or Charlie V is what the Cavs need. :)

  • Z Posted: Jun.30 at 11:52 am
cleveland fans loooooooooooove andy but quite frankly, if they sign cv (and the guy is practically begging for it on twitter), they can let andy walk. Z, JJ, Joe Smith and Darnell are enough back up.

  • Quail Posted: Jun.30 at 1:59 pm
Cavs will let go of Big Z I think. Andy would be the backup center to Shaq and Joe Smith will be the backup power forward to Charlie V. thats a damn good rotation if u ask me.

  • Sparker Posted: Jun.30 at 2:10 pm
charlie v looks after his own out there. that’s pretty much it. and in spite of the occasional strong game, that’s two teams who seemed in a hurry to let him walk. if i had to guess, i’d say he probably thinks he’s better than he is

  • Kevin Wilson Posted: Jun.30 at 2:26 pm
    Danny Ferry, sign this man.

  • D12FSU Posted: Jun.30 at 2:27 pm
Charlie V will only be famous for being the first player to “tweet” at halftime…even if the Cavs get him, they still wont beat orlando

  • Joel O's Posted: Jun.30 at 3:02 pm
Charlie V is a heck of a scorer. Loads of moves at any range. And a very, very underrated passer with great court vision for a big man. Being hurt and Yi’s alleged guaranteed minutes have hurt him in recent years, but those of you who remember cheering him on during his rookie season in Toronto know what I’m saying.

  • Holy Baller Posted: Jun.30 at 3:33 pm
I’m wondering how in the world the Clips are gonna split minutes with Z-Bo, Camby, Kaman, DeAndre Jordan, and Brian Skinner without someone getting really pissed off…..I can see Z-Bo punching a teammate during a game next year….

    detroit guys, detroit

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jun.30 at 4:03 pm
    Sheed to Houston. Just because.

  • wayno Posted: Jun.30 at 4:25 pm
    Detroit please!

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jun.30 at 6:29 pm
Are the Bucks gonna be the first NBA team to fold? Seriously, passing on a $4.6 million qualifying offer to a player they could actually use? Trading away one of their top five and letting another just walk? The poor get poorer. Good luck, Brandon—you’re gonna need it.

  • penny Posted: Jun.30 at 7:05 pm
since Shaq and J Smith is now with the cavs, forget CV sign Mcdyess, Juwan Howard and Kidd! bring back the oldies!

  • Dacre Posted: Jun.30 at 7:30 pm
Hmmm…him and Amare, side by side?
You could put them both in headbands and googles…it would be like stepbrothers all over again!?

  • Steve O'Marro Posted: Jun.30 at 10:26 pm
CV is a “power forward” who plays like a small forward. There is a reason MKE let him go.

  • nate the great Posted: Jul.1 at 1:58 am
    CV TWEET

  • Spartdog Posted: Jul.1 at 7:56 am
good question, Russ…I think that they were just waiting for the first opportunity to get rid of him. He’s not really a Milwaukee-type-of-personality, and rubbed the organization the wrong way. The Nets are dumping salaries at a ridiculous rate as well (only 17 million committed after next season).

  • logan Posted: Jul.1 at 11:48 am
how come every time there is talk about a trade or a free agent everyone says something about the cavs getting him. there are other nba teams

  • wayno Posted: Jul.1 at 12:36 pm
Charlie V will be in Detroit. He wants a paycheck and Cleveland can only offer him thier full MLE worth 5.6 million. Detroit would likely offer him 7 or 8 million. They would be slightly over paying him IMO, but that’s what you have to do sometimes. He’d be a good fit in the D.

  • Ty Posted: Jul.1 at 4:36 pm
Please Detroit DO NOT SIGN this guy. Waaaay overated…

  • seven deuce Posted: Jul.1 at 5:16 pm
I still think CV is a large small forward. He needs to get that defense up, but has a boatload of offensive skills. He’s another Hedo type.

  • Such and such Posted: Jul.1 at 8:09 pm
5/34M for CV. welcome to Detroit

  • Such and such Posted: Jul.1 at 8:09 pm
not 34, but 35M. my bad

  • Kieran Posted: Jul.1 at 8:17 pm
    Ben Gordon a Piston too

  • The D Train Posted: Jul.1 at 8:38 pm
i’ll save my Ben Gordon rant for the obligatory BG posting, but let me be the first to say congrats to the Pistons on trying to become the first NBA Champion featuring nothing but jump-shooters. gotta trade Rip now, cuz there is no way in H-E-double hockey sticks that there’s enough shots to go around with him, Gordon, and Chazzy V. chucking up mid-range jumpers.

  • Z Posted: Jul.1 at 9:27 pm
8 mil per for charlie V? 11 mil per for BG? With Rip and Tay still on the team? (scratching my head)

  • Such and such Posted: Jul.1 at 10:21 pm
    over/under 56 shots for Charlie/Gordon

  • Enigmatic Posted: Jul.2 at 1:31 am
Damn. Pistons may as well trade for Okafor and Ray Allen and have an all-UConn starting 5. Seriously though, as far as BG, I’m not understanding his wanting to go to Detroit, where he’ll no doubt be the 6th man, something he didn’t really enjoy doing in the Chi. Oh well, like Bone said back in the days, for the love of $…..

  • DG Posted: Jul.2 at 1:49 am
bg money will go down as ya know lebron and wade hit the market next year and bg or wade? ill take wade all day

  • Scott Carter Posted: Jul.2 at 5:27 am
WELCOME TO DETROIT CHARLIE(ok, i know its not official yet). But he and BG-Knockout are gonna look great in Piston red and blue. And to you “Enigmatic”, thats something I thought about as well. BG really should be a starter, but the truth is he agreed with Dumars ALREADY KNOWING he would be coming off the bench. But heres MY question. How much sence does it make to give a 5yr/$58million contract to A BENCH PLAYER??? Hmmmm.

  • Scott Carter Posted: Jul.2 at 5:33 am
With the signing of Ben Gordon & Charlie Villanueva, and me being a Piston fan, I’m thinking only one thing: RIP HAMILTON for TYSON CHANDLER!! a) Hornets have been tryin to dump him since February, b) Hornets could use a starting SG, and c) He’s a legit shotblocker, rebounder, and 7-foot QUALITY center. MAKES SENCE FOR BOTH TEAMS.
