Who Smells a Brandon/Ricky Rivalry?

Brandon Jennings said it was all in good fun, but heed his comments about Rubio: “‘Yeah, I think I’m a better player than he is. I just shoot the ball better than he can. The only thing I’ve seen him do sometimes is when he has a home-run pass or something like that. I think the dude is just all hype. I can’t even front. I’m just going to be real with you guys.’”

and that is why i hate these “next generation” players, instead of being like chris and deron who are rivals but great friends, they talk sh*t.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

    who will suck less?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

I actually think BOTH are 100% hype as of now and that BJ will be a better player.

  • http://allanzuss@yahoo.com Mendel

That won’t move you up the draft boards BJ and know one knows who the hell you are or what your games about so if fairness to both, whatever.

    Rubio > Jennings.

  • niQ

all draftees are all hype until they play in the L.

  • niQ

and for the record, this “rivalry” was mentioned waaaaaaayyyyyyyy before already.. nothing new.

Ricky is proving to be a little too difficult for my tastes. reportedly he doesn’t want to play in Memphis of with the Wiz, and I am less and less sure that he’d be a franchis savior at the point for some team. I mean, there’s still a chance he’ll turn into the “Nash 2.0″ but that assuming he lands in the perfect situation. And I’ve been saying it for aover a year but Jonny Flynn will turn out to be the best pro PG in this draft.

I feel like Brandon Jennings is going to be a Warrior. We’ll just convince Nelly he’s European.
“There’s this point guard from Italy and—”
“Great. Let’s get him. Now hand me another Coor’s.”

Did a big story about this feud on my blog a couple of days ago if anyone’s intersted.

    Rubio > Jerry West

Why do people think Rubio is good again? He IS all hype. He’s like the Psycho T of point guards. I’d take Jennings and Flynn any day over this cat. PLUS he’s too picky to play with OKC and/or Memphis? Are you kidding?
Anyways, there is going to be a rivalry, but its probably not as even as some of you guys think.

  • http://www.crashwallace.com nate the great

i like rubio, but i think jennings is better.
and rubio wont be the next nash. nash can shoot the ball.

  • http://dsjklff.com Jukai

Flynn = Failure. 12th man for six years into his career. Count it.
Either Jennings or Rubio will be the best point guards in the draft, not even close. Flynn is too small, too eratic, too gambl-y, too bullheaded to make it in this league.

  • http://nbacheapseats.blogspot.com Chendaddy

I don’t know if Jennings was just talking trash, and a reporter chopped up his interview to make it sound controversial, or if he is seriously that egotistical and then later tried to play it down. Either way, I half agree with BETCATS. BOTH these guys are hype. At least with Ricky, though, you can be sure he can defend PG’s in the league because we saw him do that consistently in the Olympics (though he got smoked by Chris Paul and Deron Williams). Defense will always get you minutes when you’re a rookie. But Jennings? I haven’t seen him do anything consistently that proves he belongs. Yet.

  • adams

Well, Jennings is “fronting” one way or the other, since he was totally in love with Rubio on his blog back in december, calling him great and looking forward “to being his friend for many years to come.” It’s the post from December 12.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP ACTING LIKE RUBIO WAS SO GREAT IN THE OLYMPICS? Check the friggin’ stats! He had what, 8 points and 3 assists against Team USA?! Against Jason Kidd?!?!?! Ohhhhh that’s so nice, man, he’s really the future of NBA basketball as we know it! He’s REALLY proven himself MVP worthy.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

For the record: Jose Calderon > Ricky Rubio. Yeah.

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

Flynn is by all accounts a GREAT character guy he plays harder than Jennings on both sides of the ball and blows the doors off Rubio in terms of atheleticism. Rubio and Jennings both seem like primadonnas to me, but that’s probably why Jukai likes them so much.

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

Flynn kills all these guys in the 1 on 1 workouts thus far too. I’ve said it before he’s the closest thuing we’ve seen to Chris paul since he came out, I’m not saying he’ll be that good but he comes the closest at this point. And just because he played zone at syracuse don’t sleep on his defense. Coming into college he was most known for his ability to be a defensive stopper. I really shouldn’t get all worked up because Jukai doesn’t know sh1t about evaluationg talent anyway (especially PGs, how’d you like Rose and Rondo making you look like an idiot this post season? Yeah.)

  • JoeMaMa

Teddy….dude was like, what, 17 in the Olympics? 8 and 3 as a back up against a (not the) Dream Team and he got props after.
I’m not saying he’s going to revolutionalize the league, but I’ll trust a bevy of pro scouts over a Teddy 7 days a week.
    but…cosign your Calderon note.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Okay, 8 and 3 against Jason Kidd. Are you trying to tell me, Mr. Joe, that those type of numbers warrant the title of “NEXT PISTOL PETE”? Some “pro scouts” have been calling him that. But wait! You’ll agree with them, right?
Alright enough sarcasm. You get my point.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ ciolkstar: I don’t want to get into this much, but don’t forget that he also thought Ricky Rubio was better than Rajon Rondo, RIGHT NOW.

  • Flight

Jennings will be a dusty undersized player in the L.

  • JoeMaMa

Unwarranted Pistolization. But he’s got floppy hair, dribbles well, great passer….and he’s white. The Pistol comment was as much a ‘separated at birth’ comment as anything else. I still think he’ll be a player, though.

  • seven deuce

There you go, Brandon, set it off! I can’t wait until they play each other…

  • Aussie Boy

Rubio will be like jason kidd. great passer, great dribbler, white, good vision, not a good shooter_________Just try and disagree

  • al

Most of you who dont believe in Rubio have seen him playing 2-3 times at most.
Just compare Jennigs’ to Rubio’s numbers and play in comparable teams in Europe and you will see.
By the way, Rubio has shot better with a bad wrist than Jennings for the whole season.

  • al

By the way Teddy the bear, 8and3 against Jason Kidd is better that 0and2 against Ricky Rubio, that is what Kidd aprox did in that game

  • http://www.twitter.com/Th3_R3al_Chris Young Chris MP3

I think Jennings is going to destroy this kid when they play against each other in the league. NBA is a way different game than Europe.

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

How long is Rubio gonna have this “bad wrist”, its been a built in excuse for him, but is it something that will linger, something degenerative?

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com/ Seth

Hey, maybe you guys at SLAM could put Brandon and Ricky on a cover together. That’d be sick ;)

  • basicallyinthenba21

I think Jennings has super potential to be a great 1 in the L, but he could also be Shaun Livingston 2.0

  • that dude

It’s never wise to TELL people how good you are. And the draft’s always been about potential and that’s what rubio is.

  • http://www.sportweek.fr LexaB

So funny how most people who post on this site never saw Ricky play outside of a few Youtube clips and the Olympics final and still think they’re legitimate to tell everyone how he is all hype and will never be good in the L. Saw him play in PERSON at least twenty times. Saw Brandon a couple times in Italy too. Just wait two or three years. We’ll see who gets the last laugh.
