A Peek at Ron Artest`s Potential Suitors

Among the various teams, Ron`s agent sounds particularly enthused about the Lakers: “If either Trevor Ariza or Lamar Odom prove to be too expensive for the Lakers, one backup option could be Houston forward Ron Artest, a player Mitch Kupchak has targeted in the past. Agent David Bauman said Tuesday afternoon that the Lakers, Cleveland Cavs and Orlando Magic were three teams he expected to join Houston in pursuit of Artest. `Ron’s tight with Kobe,` Bauman said. `From a basketball perspective, the Lakers make perfect sense. Ron is a winner. His best fit is when he’s on a winning team. He shoots the three, posts up smaller guys, and defensively he’s a beast. Certainly those are skills a contending team would find attractive.`”

They’d be better off with Odom and Ariza…..obviously.

  • Rasheedionics Posted: Jul.1 at 11:13 am
Wait a minute… RON IS TIGHT WITH KOBE??? I’m sure they respect each other game but it’s hard to imagine them as close friends.

  • James the balla Posted: Jul.1 at 11:21 am
I agree with both of you. I wouldn’t hate the idea of him on the Lakers, but … they would have to get along. Who knows if they could. Ron loves the ball almost as much as Kobe!

  • Mendel Posted: Jul.1 at 11:25 am
Kobe proved he does not need to love the ball. Please make it happen and keep Ariza.

  • TADOne Posted: Jul.1 at 11:29 am
Orlando is saying “f*ck the salary cap tax!”

  • DONONE Posted: Jul.1 at 11:29 am
ron ron does not!!! deserve to be in a team of pure effin flamers!! its like putting a pitbull next to a bunch of g@y chihuaha muts!!
NUGGS ALL THEE WAY BOY!! ty lawson the next great thing..beelieve me

  • Prison Mike Posted: Jul.1 at 11:43 am
The lakers said they like to get tougher on defense. He might be a good fit if KG comes back and makes the finals. I would really like to see KG try his antics on Artest.

  • riggs Posted: Jul.1 at 12:05 pm
one of my fav players will not be on my least liked team, it already happened to trevor and odom :(

  • James the balla Posted: Jul.1 at 12:27 pm
    Donone is an idiot lol.

  • showmeyourwits Posted: Jul.1 at 1:52 pm
I love Odom. Love him, but I’ve been saying since mid-season that they should get Artest in free agency. He gives you everything you get from Odom except length, but his strength cancels that out, and he’s more consistent. I heard a rumor that LA would send Sascha and LO to Minny in a sign and trade for Rubio, which would give them cash to sign Trev, Shannon, and Ron, plus have a pg of the future who is used to playing with Gasol. Make this deal happen Mitch!

  • nicko Posted: Jul.1 at 2:08 pm
wasn’t ron artest making slashing motions at his neck directed at kobe during the playoffs? i guess that means theyre tight.

  • nate the great Posted: Jul.1 at 2:19 pm
    haha @nicko
i dont want the lakers getting better.
    god dam…
its tight, no matter what they do the bobcats somehow always win, and the blazers beat them big.
    sooo. yup.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.1 at 2:45 pm
NO! Please Rockets, keep Ron Artest. PLEASE do not let him go to the freaking Lakers! Since Ron is one of my favorite ball players, I really don’t want to have to root for the Lakers…
Stay, Ron. From one New Yorker to another, the Rockets need you.
If the Rockets give up on Ron Artest and Yao Ming, I’m officially done with this franchise.

  • The Seed Posted: Jul.1 at 2:48 pm
Lakers should do it, if they cannot sign one of these players. Artest respects Kobe and knows all Kobe wants to do is win at all cost, even hitting his friend with an elbow in the neck. LAKERS 2K10 CHAMPS!!!

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.1 at 2:48 pm
@ nicko: I know it looked like Ron Artest was threatening Kobe like that, but it actually wasn’t. It looked really cool, but he was actually just showing the refs that Kobe had swiped him across the neck with his elbow.
And Ron Artest is NOT tight with Kobe. He’s tight with Lamar Odom.
I think Artest will keep with Houston, unless he feels compelled to leave. I know he wants to continue playing with Yao Ming, but since Yao Ming might be missing the season, I could see Ron wanting to move to put himself in a winning position. I still have confidence in Houston though. Daryl Morey, do the right thing: Keep Ron.

  • dma Posted: Jul.1 at 3:21 pm
if artest goes to a “winning” team, i expect a 2 year contract with a team option for the 2nd. nobody’s going to take chances on him. he was a golden child on the rockets because it was contract year.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.1 at 4:17 pm
^ Yeah, it was a contract year. And the Rockets almost beat the Lakers, taking them to 7 games without Yao. They took a chance, and it PAID OFF. Letting Ron go is ridiculous at this point, after we’ve seen what he can do.

  • JoeMaMa Posted: Jul.1 at 4:18 pm
RonRon, please go to Orlando and make Vince your girlfriend everyday in practice. Just crack his ribs like you did Jordan.
    Sincerely, every Raptors fan.

  • Josh D Posted: Jul.1 at 4:28 pm
Speaking as a Spurs fan, i really hope that he doesn’t got to the Magic, the Cavs or the Lakers

  • knock knock Posted: Jul.1 at 5:06 pm
Do any of you “fans” remember the rockets series? the one where artest was jackin shot after shot. The only person straight killing the other team was brooks as fisher can’t guard anyone. Artest is still better than odom tho

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.1 at 7:40 pm
@ knock knock: Why do you insist on saying stupid things? Maybe you should have watched the first half of the series, the one where Artest was draining shot after shot. The one where Artest nearly helped the Rockets win 2 in a row IN LA.
He went a little cold after that, but Artest is the man. He’s an integral part of the Rockets.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.1 at 7:40 pm
Not to insult you or anything.

  • Rnz Posted: Jul.1 at 10:37 pm
Artest on the same team with kobe?…nooo…its like Putting Batman and Joker on the same team..

  • Blinguo Posted: Jul.1 at 11:36 pm
Artest’s playground buddies, classmates, local hoop heroes, and of course Kobe. “QB B*tch” and “KB B*tch.” Every agent is Rosenhaus + Shamwow guy + Billy Mays (R.I.P.). There is no current roster player anywhere tight with Kobe. Go ahead. Name one.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.1 at 11:40 pm
^ I think Derek Fisher is pretty alright with Kobe. I don’t know about TIGHT though.

  • Quail Posted: Jul.1 at 11:57 pm
Sasha Vujacic is quite good friends with Kobe. did no one watch Kobe Doin Work?

  • RV Posted: Jul.2 at 12:14 am
ron won’t be re signing with houston, they only offered a 1 yr and he’s moving on, LA may be the frontrunner right now….Houston is pursuing Ariza though..but i dont think it’ that serious..

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.2 at 12:42 am
What? Why wouldn’t Ron re sign? WHAT THE F*CK. How is Daryl Morey not going to keep this guy? COME ON RON.

  • Blinguo Posted: Jul.2 at 12:54 am
Didn’t think of that, thanks Teddy. Imagine Ron Artest to the Nuggets = breaking news, Stern shuts down NBA. Lockout again. Reports say Chris Andersen is their no.1 priority in Denver. But Ron Artest to the Lakers would make that one dream a reality, Kobe with the broken ribs in practice, just like Jordan. GG for chintao but that would also implode mainland China’s NBA fans to exile Artest ASAP.

Ron commented on his potential new teams by stating: “This will be the best trade ever…except for this one trade in the hood back in 1993. My boy B traded a chair leg for jail time.”

  • andrew Posted: Jul.2 at 4:57 am
has anyone else seen Ron’s ridiculour twits? Going to the Knicks? He then said the Dodgers. Then Circuit City for batteries.

  • nicko Posted: Jul.2 at 7:41 am
^ he cant go to circuit city….he didn’t get his employee discount when he was a rookie

  • RV Posted: Jul.2 at 10:46 am
Teddy, its really not that great of an idea to re-sign him. He’s been great from a PR standpoint, but his play was very up and down….plus, if we sign him for multiple years it will cut into our chances of acquiring a big name next summer..

  • niQ Posted: Jul.2 at 10:55 am
If Artest joins either of the Lakers or Cavs, I smell a championship..

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.2 at 1:37 pm
@ RV: His play was great last year. He fell a little cold during some games in the playoffs, but he’s a big energy guy for our Rockets. He has great chemistry with the other players and he’s our second best player next to Yao right now.
Nonsense, if T-Mac is moved to the right spot the Rockets can land a big name.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.2 at 1:37 pm
Also, RV: Any news come your way of that Chris Paul trade?

  • a_whiteman Posted: Jul.2 at 4:15 pm
This combo could only work if Phil Jackson comes back. He has proven he can handle wild characters and huge egos in a locker room. Does anyone not remember Dennis Rodman with the bulls? Artest couldn’t be harder to handle then Rodman.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.2 at 4:29 pm
First of all, Ron Artest doesn’t have a “huge ego”, whiteman. Second of all, Artest isn’t going to the Lakers.
As a Rockets fan and a New York dude, I refuse to believe it.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.2 at 5:56 pm
BREAKING (I think): YAO TO GET SURGERY, MAY BE BACK PLAYING BY ALL-STAR BREAK.
    Stay with us Ron.

  • MagicChicken Posted: Jul.2 at 7:54 pm
Artest takes Ariza’s mid-level exception! Thanks to KLAC 570 for reporting this

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.3 at 12:37 am
F*CK. ARTEST ACTUALLY SIGNED WITH THE LAKERS. AWWW F*CK.
