Cavs Want Warrick

Danny Ferry’s Summer of Deals is far from over, it would seem: “According to a league source, the Cavs have a contract offer out to a forward and are hoping to get an answer within the next few days. That forward is believed to be Hakim Warrick, a 6-9 athletic big man who has played the past four seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies. The team is believed to be offering its biannual exception, which would be just under $2 million for this season, plus a player option for the 2010-11 season.”

I wish my Nets wanted Warrick (well, maybe they do, but it doesn’t help that there are already 15 players on the roster)

    where’s my comment?

there it is, Gerard. And Warrick isn’t gonna agree to a contract for 2 mil a year.

Well, he’d definitely help defend Rashard Lewis.

  • ave. joe

exactly…he should sign, get a ring, then deal with contracts next season…he won’t likely get a chance to run with a team like these here cavs again

mmm… that’s intriguing. the cavs coulg go from an unathletic team to potentially fielding moon, bron and hak. west, z, hak, moon, (boobie). that’s a very nice bench. cleveland could go big, small, uptempo, half court, there’s some slashing, some shooting, some postup O. i like.

  • riggs

he’d be extremely stupid not to.

  • gio

cavs are running after everybody else.

  • neaorin

subpar defender, no bulk, no range, not a good rebounder, poor shot blocker, poor free throw shooter… I can’t wait for my Cavs to get him :/

neaorin, he’d be a change of pace guy. and the only athletic true big man. imo, he’d fill a need.

Z, why would you take even more off the 2010 cap AND from JJ Hickson’s PT for a guy who doesn’t look like he’ll “get it”, ever? Nah, if you can’t get a stretch four then run with JJ and Jawad as your 4th and 5th big men. Hell, I’d try to bring Joe Smith back for another year before giving Warrick a multiyear deal.

I’m not sold on JJ at all. And that was even before the bad back. Jawad is a marginal NBA player. Joe Smith is 52. Hakim is a proven scorer in limited minutes. (12 pts off the bench last year) Forget the cap, this is about this year. With the way the number is going down, it won’t be possible to sign another max player anyways. Everyone will re-up with their current team. Again, it’s a nice change of pace from Andy V. It gives the Cavs another look. THe stretch 4 thing is a bit overrated IMO. The Cavs need to be able to DEFEND stretch 4s, not necessarily have a shooter at the 4. At no point did I ever think that we were one shooting big man from the ‘ship. That was never the problem.

he cant defend..so whoever said he would help defend rashard…please do

All in all, if the deal goes through. Shaq > Ben. Parker > Sasha. Moon > Wally. Warrick > Smith, JJ. Not too shabby.
