Celtics Ambush Rasheed, Offer a Contract

Boston sent the whole cavalry to Wallace’s place, and asked him to sign on the dotted line: “An NBA source said that the Celtics offered Pistons free agent F/C Rasheed Wallace a contract using the mid-level exception today during a three-hour meeting in Detroit. The Celtics All-Star trio of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen, coach Doc Rivers, president Danny Ainge, and managing partner Wyc Grousbeck all attended the meeting. While interested, the source said Wallace was in no rush to make a decision.”

Is Sheed a good fit for them? I don’t really know.

Can’t be any worse than Marbury.

The Celtics never seem like they want to add any youngsters. I understand that they are in a “win-now” mentality, and rightfully so, but what happens when Sheed (assuming he signs) and Kevin and Allen and Pierce all retire? They don’t seem too keen on paying Rondo, so I see him bolting pretty soon. The Celtics are going to be like late 90’s early 2000’s Celtics all over again, given 5-10 years time.

when sheed garnett allen and peirce retire the celtics will have like 70 mil to build a team again and everyone wants to play on the celtics with its history and all i aint too worried about them

I think this is a good move, Rasheed has fallen off of late but if anyone can light a fire under him KG might just be that one!!!

  • Mansonovic Posted: Jul.3 at 4:51 am
Given that Sheed played for the Jail-blazers, does this mean he would now play for the Cell-tics? I’ll get my coat…

  • chintao Posted: Jul.3 at 5:09 am
Would that put Kendrick Perkins on the bench? While I hate the C’s, from an academic perspective, I would say they would be better off making Jesus 6th man and sliding PP to the 2.

  • IllWill21 Posted: Jul.3 at 5:55 am
    Go C’s

  • dutch Rob Posted: Jul.3 at 6:41 am
Ray ray to the bench R U kidding me?
Sheed would be a good fit at Center or at the PF
He could start instead of Perk or be backup to him or KG. No way that the C’s are gonna bench Jesus shuttlesworth. If you want another championship run then this is a good move and the big three know it.

lol. this season is getting more and more suspenseful. i seriously am dying for the season to start!

  • Garrett Posted: Jul.3 at 3:42 pm
I think Sheed would fit well in San Antonio alongside Duncan. And also Orlando, now that they don’t have any bigs except for Dwight.

  • Jacob J Posted: Jul.3 at 4:31 pm
Hopefully sheed and dice stay in Detroit but if they dont boston is the only place that Id like to see them play for.

  • D12FSU Posted: Jul.3 at 6:47 pm
OTIS SMITH..GET OFF YOU @SS AND GO GET R. WALLACE!!! nelson, VC, lewis, wallace, D12….with peaches off the bench!!! we would have 3 6′10-11 guys who can post up their smaller man, 2 of whom can shoot 3….we would be creating match up problems all over again!!!!!!

  • BostonBaller Posted: Jul.3 at 11:59 pm
I’m hoping my C’s get him. I’ve always like his game and bball IQ. I even hope we keep Marbury to see how he pans out for us after getting his feet wet last year.

  • The Promise Posted: Jul.5 at 2:12 pm
Interesting stuff. Next year is gonna have alot of powerhouse teams. Detroit signed Villenueva, so this created a problem. Neither of these guys are a true center, they are 4’s. Both of them cant play at that spot, so now, what you are probably going to see, is, that that Rasheed goes to a team that is in contention for a chip, like Boston, Orlando, San Antonio, teams like that. I’d say Boston will get him, but if not, theres prolly a better chance of him going to Orlando. He has always been one of my favorite players, so, wherever he goes, I hope he gets another ring before he calls it quits.
