Clippers Want Allen Iverson, Too

by Marcel Mutoni

When the offseason began, it looked as thought no one wanted the services of one Allen Iverson. But all of that seems to have changed of late, as the number of teams fighting to acquire the former MVP has now reached four.

According to the LA Times, the Los Angeles Clippers are the latest squad to throw their hat into the A.I. lottery. And they’re reportedly “very serious” about this:

Talks between the Clippers and the free-agent guard have been characterized as “very serious,” according a source close to Iverson who was not authorized to speak publicly about the negotiations.

The Clippers declined to comment. They have long been intrigued by Iverson, having come close to acquiring him in the past. The process has moved far enough along that they have spoken to Camby about Iverson since they were close as teammates in Denver. Baron Davis is said to be on board with adding Iverson.

With Miami apparently unwilling to offer more than $2 million next season, the 34-year old A.I. has his eye on the Clippers’ mid-level exception. How he would fit in on the Clips – or if he’d even be willing to come off their bench – is anyone’s guess.

Incidentally, Blake Griffin dominated in his quasi-NBA debut (27 points on 11-15 shooting). Call me skeptical, but one can’t help but get the feeling that should the Iverson deal come to fruition, Blake won’t see many stat lines like the one last night too many times during his rookie season.

The Answer a Clipper? Big Question

  • http://www.laumol.nl/weblog Laumol

Then you’ve got: Camby, Kaman, DeAndre, Baron, Iverson, Gordon, Griffin, that’s a lot of talent and still not a team. Oh, and Randolph of course, almost forgot!

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

Iverson and Baron Davis?! Naw, that’s just crazy. That would be like Marbury and Nate Robinson……oh wait…..

  • http://www.twitter.com/mansonovic Mansonovic

If Iverson wasn’t happy coming off the bench behind a vet like Rip, there is NO WAY he’ll accept coming off the bench behind Eric Gordon. This move won’t happen. Oh, and Laumol, Zac Randolph is a Grizzlie now.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Mansonovic: why do you assume he’ll come off the bench to Eric Gordon, dude…?

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Why? None of these teams chasing him make any sense. This will stunt eric gordons growth

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Someone yesterday said AI would be a great fit with a veteran team needing some scoring punch. I think alot of us thought that too…..but he tried it in Detroit and we saw how that worked out. Playing in front of a good group of young talent probably isn’t the best spot for him either, so maybe a fringe team (like the Bobcats) would at least benefit enough to actually be a threat to make the playoffs with his added 20 points a game.

  • http://www.hoopsmanifesto.blogspot.com Jeff Fox

Iverson could cause too much havoc with this team. Not worth the trouble – don’t do it Clippers.

Iverson should retire. I hate seeing mediocre teams make mediocre offers for him, which implies that he is now thought of as a mediocre player. Which he’ll never be to me.

Clockwork: that was in one of the weakest eastern conferences ever seen. I think if AI signed with the Clip-show, they’d make the playoffs over the Suns and Mavs, but they’d a 7th/8th seed and first round upset… and they’d disrupt the growth of Eric Gordon and Blake Griffin. Is that worth it?

  • Clockwork

Well I guess it’s better than not playing at all and getting openly mocked by ABC with a bogus stat sheet. I still can’t believe they did that. And yeah, back in 01 the Eastern Conference was a train wreck, but they still did beat a good Bucks team and were the only ones to steal a game from the invincivle Lakers…good times.

The answer is simple.. come back to philly!! Billy King is gone! Mo cheeks is gone.. those who hated you here are gone!!

AI and Baron? The rest of the team need not score.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Noooooooo! The Clips are doing everything they can to mess up their young guys, right? A backcourt of B-Diddy and Iverson is the worst idea ever. Ever. Between Davis, Gordon, AI, Thornton and Ricky Davis (all chuckers) the ball will never go the post. TERRIBLE IDEA. Add Camby and Kaman, that would 7 rotation guys that think shoot first when they catch the ball. Welcome to hell, Blake.

The Clippers priority this season should be developing Gordon and Griffin.

I have no idea where AI and even Baron Davis fit into that picture.

    Mike Dunleavy smokes his breakfast.

  • neaorin

Too bad they didn’t hold on to Randolph as well. With Baron, AI and Randolph on the court on the same time we would’ve witnessed the refs calling jump balls between teammates for the first time in history.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

I mean, let me not take away anything from Iverson: he WAS the offense and for them to beat the Lakers in LA was a testimony to how hardcore FANTASTIC Allen Iverson was in his prime. I’m just saying, let’s not pretend AI can do the same thing for the Clippers.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ NICK KALATHES

The up-to-now interest for the cartoon is quite normal: not one serious team really wants him(Marc Stein wrote 3 months ago that not one G.M in the league at the last few years believes that A.I. can help a team win), a half serious team (but with no chances of really contending this year) is willing to give him no more than 2mil ,and the only ones that are actually considering him are teams that are heading for the lottery, others without a strong fun base, and european teams with no actual chances at the Euroleague(he was proposed, along with the other cartoon, to both greek teams and 3 other euroleague contenders but nobody was that dumb) ….it would have been fun to see him be left with only the Miami offer just to enjoy a “Latrell-2″ response but unfortunatelly the revenues for dead markets like Charlotte Minesota and Clippers from the kids(and we got many here) that will support A.I. even he decides to actually bring his one ball to the game (to make sure that he can take the 30 shots he needs to reach 30points)are too much for a business to pass by…..Anyway, this sad joke is about to end (this year, next year, doesn’t matter) and the damage that it made to the U.S. basketball is starting slowly to get healed (like the way that the U.S. team played in New Zealand last weak showed to the world.). I wouldn’t be surprised to see him broke in a few years .

@Fat…:exactly !!!! for this and for many other reasons(for example Baron & A.I. are second only to A.I.&Starbury in my list of the most comic guards duo of the decade) this is trully a match made in heaven!!!! Can’t wait for this to happen….

  • Tavoris

it’s almost pointless to defend AI’s position. 1)can he make a team better? probably not-but he doesnt make them worse either. 2)will he make ANY team a lot more money (tix sales)? definitely. iverson is one of maybe 5 or 6 players that fans pay to see. (Kobe, Lebron, Dwight, Wade, Nash). Shouldnt he be rewarded not only for performance (wins) but also revenue generated? Definitely. that is, unless anyone thinks the NBA can survive with mediocre ticket, jersey, and ad sales

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ NICK KALATHES

@Tavoris….:”can he make a team better? probably not-but he doesnt make them worse either.” Well, our cute cartoon went to a team with a 100% record (Pistons) and would have them out of the playoffs if he wasn’t send at home by Dumars. At the same time the team that was heading nowhere with him for the last 3 years suddenly transformed to a title contender….(don’t let me get into his “TEAM USA” legendary contribution….)

No no no! This will only hurt EJ, a future star of this team and the L.

  • E.

As I’m probably the only Clipper fan I have to clear up why AI would sit behind Gordon? Maybe cuz Gordon will be an All-Star withing the next 3-4 yrs. E.G. is a stud. He can drive, shoot the 3 and defend. The only reason he didn’t get much pub was cuz he is a clipper.AI is still one my fav players of all thime but I don’t think it will work.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

Of the teams interested (Mem,Mia,Lac) Memphis makes the most sense. Yeah LAC is putting together a nice team, and Miami has Wade (not much beyond him) But I think the Grizz have a pretty god mixture of vets and youngsters. AI wont be needed to do all the scoring, Rudy Gay is gonna be great and Mayo will only improve. Plus Zbo is a proven post scorer and Thabeet blocks a lot of shots. I think hes the missing piece in Memphis and if signed, they’re a playoff team.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

    *good, not god. oops.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

would be dope if he and Marbury landed on the same squad.

  • lulsy

AI dropped 27 and 7 two years ago on a 50 win team. clippers fans who think that could disrupt your sorry excuse for a franchise don’t deserve a future hall of famer and the realest athlete of our generation on your pathetic team.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ NICK KALATHES

@Blaze….: a team with the cartoon is impossible to make it to the playoffs except if 1)is otherwise “NBA finals” material and cannot have such a drop-off because of his presense(DENVER) 2) plays in the weakest conference of all-time (EASTERN ONE, late 90′s,early 00′s) 3)is banned from the team (DETROIT)….Memphis could hope only for the 3rd case but it would need to ban him for the whole year since they have a weaker team than Detroit.

  • E.

I wonder why NICK hates AI so much. Too thug for you? Too many tats? Sorry he doesn’t look like you. Now u hating on Jennings too. Probably something there. You even want to see him broke but the guy’s been making 20 mill plus has his reebok money.

with larry brown im sure enough the bobcats will bring home the championship ring..

  • tavoris

@Nick…the Pistons AS A WHOLE were a trainwreck last year. And in case you didn’t notice, they were on the path to irrelevance for two years running. It’s telling that the only player on the team that hasn’t been dangled as trade bait this offseason(or allowed to walk) is Stuckey. Also, the Nuggets lasted longer in the playoffs this year, but they fizzed in the end JUST LIKE THEY DO EVERY YEAR. So, you can assign the blame to AI if you want, but don’t forget that basketball is a team game. My entire point was that AI is a proven commodity for the league. Regardless of where u think he is as a player, you can’t deny that fact.

Someone explain to me why AI is widely considered a HOF’er but Dennis Johnson isnt. AI is the most over-rated player in NBA history! If you look at his numbers, compared to other starting point guards, you will see his mediorcity! He benefited from MJ and the greats leaving the league almost all at once. I’ve never been so aggravated by a player! How does a starting pg shoot below 40% average more 30 pts, less that 6 assists, and be considered good? He’s been the thing holding back every team he’s been on. Even that fluke year he went to the Finals (when the east was really terrible) he was holding them back more than helping. So he fell a few times and got up? So what. If he would’ve been a Vinnie Johnson type, coming off the bench all his career, then he’s a shoe in to me for HOF. But a starting pg? How he beats Dj to the Hall is beyond me

  • tavoris

BETCATS…I don’t see them re-signing Ricky Davis…they renounced their rights to Mardy Collins…those are the only guards they had beyond BD, Gordon, and Taylor. Mike Taylor is a good young dude. However, a 3 guard rotation once Baron takes his yearly in-season vacation is nice…

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Why are y’all arguing with NIKOS?
You know that kills brain cells, right?

  • http://wordonthestreetsmag.com Rodney K

Even as a shooting guard terrible! He’s part of the style over substance trend thats in the world right now. Who cares what you do, as long as look good doing it! He’s terrible! What team has he made better? Why is it that his most memorable hi-light moments as a player, are also losses for his team? He crossed over MJ, and MJ put up 50 and blew out the Sixers! No one ever mentions that. All you hear is, “AI crossed up Jordan”….and Jordan put up 50 and the Bulls TEAM blew out the sixers TEAM! And usually with age comes wisdom and he’s somehow got more arrogant and simple! Just not a fan. And if he’s a HOF’er than Dennis Johnson needs to be a landslide choice! Starting PG for one of the best teams ever, made one of the biggest shots in Boston history (for a WIN). Didnt put up AI numbers stat wise, but AI couldnt dream of 3 rings and all the wins and assists that DJ has.

  • http://wordonthestreetsmag.com Rodney K

Just a bad player, teammate. Just terrible lol Bad, Bad, Bad, across the board. Not even in his prime would I pick him to the starting point for my team. Not if I want to win.

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ NICK KALATHES

@wayno….:yeap,i really said that….and what Jukai is posting about Carlo’s performance in 2009 is true…(not even the Euroleague…) i made my statement after Carlos had been one of the top 20 players in the best (talentwise) bball tournament (Olympics 2008) that i have ever followed, and after buring single-handenly my beloved Greece in the quarter finals……one small detail that all of you do not know: Carlos went to play at Siberia for 10mil $ per year at the time (making him by far the highest paid player in Europe over Josh, Navaro and Papaloukas) to find out that Kimki had no money (after the crisis in Octomber) and he was about to remain unpaid. In February he was trying to find another team…don’t know if he got paid (even partially) at the end….not exactly the best conditions to make perform your best at Siberia….

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ NICK KALATHES

@Allenp…..:that gives you the ability to argue with me as much as you want!!! Lucky you!!!! (you Perelman ofspring!!!!)
@wayno….:i have posted much more stupied things the last year….
    @Rodney K….:please stop doing this, i’ll lose my job….

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I see Rodney K suffers from the same disease as Nikos.
The inability to make an argument against Iverson without distorting facts.
Saying Iverson never made a team better means you have to ignore that he was drafted FIRST by a Sixers team that was in the lottery as often as the Clippers at the time.
Then you ignore the steady progression in the team’s record, including several trips to playoffs, and culminating in a trip to the Finals.
Of course, if you’re Nikos, you add qualifiers about how “weak” the Eastern conference was at the time. True dat. But, you can only play against the schedule. Iverson beat weak teams but his team was arguably the least talented Finals team in NBA history. So, he beat weak teams with a weak team of his own.
But, those are actual facts that would ruin Nikos rant about cartoons, and Rodney’s rant about style over substance.
    So, they have been ignored.

  • JOZ

Why haven’t the Bulls made any offers for AI? They need an instant scorer to replace B Gordon. Surely he is better than Hinrich. No?

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ NICK KALATHES

@Allenp….:put J.R.Smith in the place of A.I. at that sixers team for 8 years (in the weakest conference i’ve ever seen) and i bet that he manages better results(he is a much better shooter) than getting past the second round just once and then accidentally(hardly escaping a Raptors team in 7 games and that mainly because Vince didn’t bother to saw up on time after his graduation, then winning against the legendary Bucks in a match-up of the worst teams to ever make it to the conference finals of all time) making it to the finals (where he was completely humiliated by the Lakers).

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Nikos
Did you just say JR SMITH!
Homie, we’re done. Seriously, from now on, you can say whatever you like because I refuse to EVER, EVER take you seriously again. EVER.
If you think Iverson got humilated by the Lakers, you watched a different series than I did.
Every other team in the Western conference go humiliated by that Lakers team. The Sixers were the only team to win a game against them in the playoffs (a game in which Iverson scored 48 including 30 by halftime) and the first three games were highly competitive. This was despite Aaron Mckie and Eric Snow playing with fractured ankles, George Lynch having some sort of leg fracture and Mutombo having dislocated fingers. Not to mention Iverson’s injuries. In fact, the Lakers needed a last clutch three from Robert Horry to pull out GAme three of that series, or the Sixers would have gone up 2-1. and Iverson averaged like 35.6 for the series.
But, it doesn’t matter, your J.R. Smith comment exposed you. Anybody who thinks that anybody besides Kobe, Lebron and Dwade could have possibly done what Iverson did with those teammates in that year is slow. Anybody who throws out the name JR Smith is a complete idiot.
    I don’t suffer fools.

check it. a.i shuld just go to charolette and then retire. I wuld ONLY want him in miami and a sixth man.nuthin else.hes an undersized SG,just go to MJ.da clippers dont need em.memphis maybe.but that wont help the young gunz der develop.(like the clips)…..idk where he fits………………..the knicks!of course.or even better the sonics!wait the olympiakos!

I hate how some guys play outta position just to (1) allow themselves more touches or (2) create unnecessary mismatches. KG, McDyess and Sheed are not centers, Duncan is not a power forward, Iverson is not a shooting guard and Brandon Roy is not a point guard. If I was at his camp, I woulda dunked on Kobe.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

Now that the Pistons have Air Gordon, are they gonna move Hamilton (plastic man 2k)

  • http://slamonline Blaze

NBA.com states that Boozer expects to be traded soon. If Portlands offer to Millsap goes through, and Boozer leaves, that puts a big question mark of who their starting 4 is. Gonna put AK47 there?

  • http://www.hoopsmanifesto.blogspot.com Jeff Fox

I just blogged my guts out about it, but Iverson to the Clippers is so ridiculous (almost as ridiculous as saying JR is better than AI).

  • http://jakeandamir.com tealish

Why are you guys responding and worse, debating the attention-hungry AI basher? Trolls need not be fed. Just move along. There are people who dislike AI but use some facts to form their opinion and then there are those who say JR Smith is better than Allen Iverson circa 2001. The latter are those who are clearly not worth your time and when you feed them, it prolongs their trolling. Just move along.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LMFAO @ NICK KALATHES. That was the single dumbest comment I’ve EVER read in the history of commenting, anywhere, anyplace. JR SMITH!?!! I can’t even be mad, that was freakin’ hilarious.

  • rob stewart

These teams that are considering A.I. aren’t even guaranteed playoff contenders except maybe for Miami. A.I. is really gonna have to get his act together in order to get a contract after this year.

Delfino, JR Smith. Don’t pick on me either N K since I debated you before without derogatory comments and just asked you to consider my side and or some facts.

    Baron Davis’ latest tweet.

“I remember watchin A.I. while he was at GTown & when he first got in the league… he would be a great vet for our young guys to learn from.”

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Rodney K., AI is mostly a shooting guard. Oh and find me a point guard that’s 2nd all time scoring in the playoffs not named Allen Iverson? Thanks.

  • Rusty

B diddy and AI on the same team, imagine if they started trying to one up each other, some ankles might get broke.

  • http://slamonline Negetivekreep

Damn, AI needs to Make like (Kobe 08′) and facilitate, for his legacy’s sake. Even if this is his last season.

  • http://wordonthestreetsmag.com Rodney K

AI is someone you want to root for, but the reality is he’s not a an elite player! He’s career speaks for that!

And if he goes to Los Angeles then we have to give Donald Sterling the “Automatic Fail” award for having a diamond in Blake Griffin and a decent mix with B-Davis, Eric Gordon and Thornton and ruining the whole dish by adding someone who voluntarilly decided not to be the 3rd guard in a Detroit line-up. But he’s going to sit behind Baron and Eric Gordon? I don’t know how or why he’s doing it, but he gets the “Automatic Fail” for that!

  • gus kasimis

allen iverson is what was wrong with the nba for many years hes 5’10 he takes bad shots shoots 40 percent and then scores 30 to 40 points and espn makes it a big deal especially when he gets 3 steals in the game they fail always to mention his poor sportmanship how he doesnt pass the ball to the open man especially on the post and how he guards no one on the court did you watch the pistons play the celtics this year rondo was blowing by AI ON EVERY POSSESION HE MADE HIM LOOK REAL PAST HIS PRIME HES NOT THE SAME IVERSON HES NOT THE FASTEST GUY IN THE LEAGUE ANYMORE PEOPLE GOT INTO HIS GAME BECAUSE HES 5’10 160 AND HE DRIVES THE BALL TO THE BASKET AND TAKES THE HITS WELL NOW ITS OVER FIR HIM HE CANT TAKE IT TO THE CUP ANYMORE HES GOTTEN ABUSED! HE WILL NOT EQUATE TO ONE MORE WIN THIS YEAR MAYBEE YOU MIGHT LOSE A COUPLE MORE GAMES BECAUSE OF HIS BAD SHOTS!

  • http://www.broy7.com nate the great

ok i semi agree with nick/rodney, since they are the same person.
but a.i. is a living legend, and did great things in his career. that man is made of heart and dedication.. unless its dedication to practice.
but what nick says make since. he shoots a low percentage, and scores 30 points.
he isnt a great teammate, and kinda does ruin the teams he goes too.
but idk iv always liked him.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

I think its tough to root against AI. He has changed the culture of the league, at first he was called a thug amongst other things. But after a few years of staying away from trouble and playing his a$$ off, he has become not only accepted but also liked by the average fan, and parents of young fans. I wish him success, but dont think he’ll get his ring unless he plays more like a pure point. (pass the effing ball sometimes).

  • Tuomas

I’d frame the first sentence of Spammy’s 2.09 comment… in the purely hypothetical situation that he was relevant at some point. Way to negate everything you ever said on this site, bro. As for the single most asinine comment ever on this site, however, I’ll still go with Rico saying MJ wasn’t better than Vince.

  • Tuomas

Also, AllenP, I don’t know what to say if you’ve sometimes taken even one of Spammy’s comments seriously. What the F, I’m a Detroit fan but he still makes me want to defend AI.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Since I like to play Devil’s Advocate, Teddy is as ill-qualified to speak about Iverson as Nikos is. I believe Teddy said Iverson was twice the player Stockton was.

  • Randy Brown

Iverson deserves to play out the rest of his career gunning on a mediocre team. it’s the way he’ll be remembered, as a scorer, not a winner

  • flash

hes lucky a team still wants him, after that bull ish he pulled on detroit

AI would be a great fit as a bull or as a heat alongside D.Wade. Hope he doesn’t end up in some useless teams like the griz or the clips. The guy deserves better or he should retire..L

  • Me

I was watching the 2008 all-star game yesterday and as of that moment Iverson was leading the league in minutes played. Tell me how he can lead the league in minutes and he shouldn’t be a starter in the league only a year later… please.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

Be cool if he and Stackhouse went back to Philly. If he has his jersey retired he will be most remembered as a Sixer, and they still have a lot of love for him there.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

tavoris: you JUST figured that out? The dude admits that all five of those guys are him.

  • David Curran

wat does every1 has against him… slam have him down as the 39th greatest player of all time.. I know hes past his prime but come on, he shud just retire

  • http://www.anwilson.blogspot.com rainman10

I’ve wondered how Iverson having been able to maintain such a high scoring and assist average for his career and still gettin hated on way too much. His skill set and accomplishments at his size compare only to Zeke, and #11 had some nice, nice teammates during his time in Detroit. People have some short #%^!#$ !@%$#@1 memories. Dudes need to go watch some Iverson from his MVP and eastern conference championship seasons. Okay he lacks maybe the biggest thing a superstar should possess: making his teammates better. Screw the haters. aint nobody need ‘em anyway.

@Rodney K….:my sincere apologies for saying that we are the same guy…i never thought that guys(tavoris,Jukai, etc) would be that dumb to actually believe this. I’ve never used a nickname that is not a greek player (ok, except Maria kallas, nadia, and Muresan…) although i cannot prove it(doesn’t matter anyway)…i am just writing this for you to continue post here. Sorry again.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Jukai, you need to stop exaggerating fool. I never said Allen Iverson was twice the player Stockton is. In my opinion though, he’s better. Stop exaggerating.
That’s not a farfetched opinion, dude. That doesn’t matter much, though, because they were VERY different.
Now Greek Dude saying JR freaking Smith is better than Allen Iverson. That’s ridiculous. Just like Rodney K. saying he was never an “elite player.”

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ rainman10: Okay, but how the heck do you make Aaron McKie and Tyrone Hill better than what they actually ARE?

David: We know dude. We know. Don’t bother.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Teddy: A spade is a spade man. To me, saying Iverson is better than Stockton is like saying JR is better than Iverson. It’s that ridiculous to me.

  • https://slamonline.com Allenp

Yeah, I’m an Iverson fan and I wouldn’t put him over Stockton.
On indivdiual talent, sure, but the game is about more than individual talent. Stockton was a master.
    Payton > Stockton though. Lol.

  • http://jakeandamir.com Tealish

@Jukai: I don’t think Iverson is better than Stockton, but that is not the most outrageous statement where you can, in the right mind, compare it to the JR Smith comment. Iverson could do a lot of things Stockton could not. And of course, the reverse is also true. They are HOFers with entirely different styles and skillsets and so it’s difficult to compare. I’m going with short shorts myself, but if someone were to argue in Ivy’s favor, I wouldn’t lose my shit.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

^^^ Exactly what I was saying, except I’m in favor of Iverson. Seriously though, Jukai is the master of exaggeration. JR Smith isn’t even an All-Star yet.

  • George B

I am forming a team in Rwanda. Can somebody give me his agent’s number?

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ KOSTAS KOUFOS

@George B…..:Hater…shame on you!!!! We are talking about a living legend here. 28 ppg for his career. Enough said.

  • http://wordonthestreetsmag.com Rodney K

4:40 am est time! I couldn’t sleep. I woke thinking “Allen Iverson is not close to a hall of fame player” This disturbing me now. It stays on my mind all day. I mean, Mark Jackson, Mark Price, Tim Hardaway, I’d argue Rod Strickland are all better pg’s than A.I.! And of all those players, only Mark Jackson could be considered a slam dunk HOF’er AI needs to be lucky he’s a little dude and we all have empathy for the small guy, cause if he’s 6’3 and up, he’s Ricky Davis and no one would speak of him and his terrible ball skills! Now, I’m gonna to try to go back to sleep. But I’ll say it again, A.I. isnt a HOF’er, not as Point or Shooting guard! Not in my mind and it shouldn;t be in yours

  • http://wordonthestreetsmag.com Rodney K

WAIT!!! @kostaskoufus called him a living legend! 28 pts per game career! It took him 22 shots to get 20 points! If that’s Kobe Bryant we’re complaining. Matter of fact, if you put AI on that Laker team that he played in the finals, they’d loose in the 2nd round! Kobe, Allen Iverson and Shaq! That would be a jump ball situation and the point guard in this case isnt loosing which means his team would loose. He’s wack! Sorry, not a fan!

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ KOSTAS KOUFOS

@Rodney K…..:1)if you lose your sleap for A.I…well…that is no good… 2)all those for guys are much better players than A.I. ,it is almost a shame to compare them to him,…A.I. won’t make the HOF(if he ever makes it cause, who knows, there is always the slight possibility that exists a god somewhere in this universe…) as a point guard or shooting guard, he will make it as a shoe seller (and he completely deserves it….as a writter said here some months ago:”the best we’ve seen since M.J”…).

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ KOSTAS KOUFOS

    @hilbilly…..:Hater!!!!30ppg. You want more…???

  • http://deleted hillbilly

Kostas, 30 ppg per game is a great stat. But, when you’re constantly letting guys get to the rim for easy buckets, you’re actually hurting your team more than helping it. I know Iverson has tremendous heart & passion for the game…he played hurt, etc…but, the guy’s still a one dimensional player at best.

  • rob stewart

Is it really possible that this could be A.I.’s last season? I never really considered it but I guess it could be. When/If he retires I will officially be old.

  • Quail

Im gonna say it one more time to get my point across….. IVERSON, GO TO MINNESOTA!!!

  • nkscouting

Iverson early in his career was a fantastic player!! But he should have retired several years ago. He’d make a good backup for the Clippers, who need more depth in their backcourt, but he would never be satisfied with being a backup: he’s just not that coachable.

    Bad move by the Clippers!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Hi.

  • Pardeep

THE REAL REASON PEOPLE HATE A.I. is because of his gangster IMAGE they hate braids, tats and cornrows and gangster rap albums. HOW CAN YOU ARGUE AGAINST HIS CAREER. 24,000 points and 5,511 assits for his career. 27.1 ppg(3rd all-time).6.2 apg. 2.2 spg. 6 feet tall!!! 00-01 MVP, 10 Time All-Star, 4 Time Scoring Champion, 3 Time Steal Champion, 2 Time All-Star game MVP, Second all time in Playoff PPG with 30 ppg for playoffs. The least talented team in finals history was his and he lead them there. He has the biggest heart in the league and he played so many games hurt. The GUY IS A LEGEND. HE IS TOP 25 EVER and he is BETTER than STOCKTON WAS. STOP HATING ON HIS CULTURE. THE GUY REVULOTIONIZED the NBA. He is the most underrated legend ever. dont be ignorant.

Holy crap….I couldn’t even read the last 1/4 of this nonsense. People need to straight get off AI’s sack. He is the League’s version of Brett Farve. Used to be great and needs to accept a smaller roll or just pack it up altogether but their egos won’t let them. (AI’s talent is undeniable but I would argue he has NEVER been a good team player. dude can’t coexist with peers.) The Answer = The Cancer at this point.

  • Pardeep

How does a guy who averages 27.1 ppg for his career take a reserve role let alone a second or third option role??

  • http://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/ KOSTAS KOUFOS

    @Pardeep…..:EXACTLY!!!!!

  • Stephon Fields

If you ask me this is reallly showing how down hill Iverson’s career is i mean come now Iverson a clipper? If this deal goes through I won’t be surprised.

  • knock knock

iverson scores 30 pts and gives up 35 on whoever he’s guarding. All these a.i. lovers need to realize, he may be a high-scoring guard with little efficiency, but his defense has always been HORRIBLE.

Maybe he should of practiced more??

  • https://slamonline.com Allenp

Yet the Sixers team’s he played for some of the best defensive teams in the league….
    Interesting.

  • Ders

Hamilton, Gordon and Iverson. that’s (at least) one too many. he should just get outta Detroit, no one would let him be a starter anyway. he could be the starting PG for the Kings though.

  • b

man..if AI went to clippers, not saying i want him to coz i obviously want him in a good team ,but if he did, i’d be all decked out in clippers right now..being he’s my fave player and id go to alll their games..man.. bu i hope he goes heat=)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Rezwan

I hope he lands on Memphis, because if he does their starting line up will look something like this:

    C – Hasheem Thabeet
    PF – Zach Randolph
    SF – Rudy Gay
    SG – OJ Mayo
    PG Allen Iverson

Now that’s an ill line up!
