Dallas Adds Gooden

The Dallas Morning News reports: “The Mavs reportedly gave journeyman Drew Gooden the bulk of their midlevel exception to fill the void left by Brandon Bass’ departure.” Reports are that he signed a one-year deal, making Dallas the second leg of the “Texas Triangle” that he’s suited up for in the last year. (He played for San Antonio last season.)

It would be a hell of a lot better with a strong rookie class but I agree though

Dallas should have snatched up Kobe for Dirk when they had the chance. The core they have wont get them past the 2′nd round.

I agree with Negativekreep. That would have been a great move.

I like the big Drizzle as a player on his good days. I still get mad thinking about when my Magic traded Mike Miller for him.

The Dalmavs are fine as usual….
This is a pretty good pick up for them. Hustler, rebounder.

  • niQ Posted: Jul.26 at 9:49 pm
@Negativekreep. When did that rumor happen?

  • rob stewart Posted: Jul.26 at 11:57 pm
kidd, howard, marion, dirk, gooden, terry, berea, dampier. Not bad at all, but not good enough to beat LA or San An

  • Rusty Posted: Jul.27 at 12:33 am
lol Anton that sucks, i couldn’t help laughing but

  • max Posted: Jul.27 at 12:55 am
honestly, i see LA still being better, but i really wouldnt see san an being better, id say theyre equal. you always gotta remember that the mavs could (in theory) have a all all-star starting five in kidd, terry, howard, marion, and dirk

@niQ (Circa) May 2007 Kobe was requesting to be traded on several radio and television stations. And it could have happened IF Mark Cuban were willing to put Dirk on the table, but he wasn’t and Mitch Kupchak wasn’t willing to take anything less than a Superstar for Kobe. Others backed away from a trade as well, including john paxson.
Leaving Kobe with zero leverage and no serious takers for a trade. HUGE missed opportunity for Dallas.

    The mediocre get mediocrer

  • Negetivekreep Posted: Jul.27 at 1:26 am
@max I agree, on paper they look great. like i said, good enough to make it to the 2′nd round. But that’a bout it. They still have no D’ and that means another Lakers/spurs western conference next may. Quote me.

Imagine if the Rockets dealt T-Mac for Kobe back when Kobe wanted a trade. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. That’s a dynasty right there.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.27 at 2:05 am
Assuming Ron Artest was still there and Yao was still healthy. Actually, with Kobe on the Rockets, Ron would have stayed in Houston for a looong time.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda… Gooden is a good pick-up, though. I thought the Spurs keep him after they sent Oberto to Milwaukee.

  • Z Posted: Jul.27 at 9:25 am
The West is going to be tougher than ppl assume, it’s not just a two-man race b/n SA and LAL. Portland got better (and could still get better if Oden decides to play basketball and by shedding some bodies.. addition by substraction at the wings), Dallas got better and Denver is still here.

  • niQ Posted: Jul.27 at 11:25 am
@Negetivekreep is that’s the case then Mark Cuban missed out big time. And @Z. The West was ALWAYS seen as tougher than the East.

  • Z Posted: Jul.27 at 11:57 am
niQ, not last year. the lakers were by themselves out west, while the east had 3 legit contenders before kg got hurt. the balance of power has shifted a bit.

  • Bryan Posted: Jul.27 at 12:17 pm
All star starting five? What is this 2004?

  • Harrell Posted: Jul.27 at 1:34 pm
The West will be fun to watch.

  • Josh D Posted: Jul.27 at 2:59 pm
This is kind of acknowing as a Spurs fan i know that Drew Gooden is quite underated, seeing him playing 4 Dallas will feel kinda bad, oh well at least Houston have lost basically their whole star cast and New Orleans can’t make a move this offseason becuase of cap

  • Josh D Posted: Jul.27 at 3:06 pm
An all star starting five, Max? Kidd is no longer an All Star he may not even be a top 50 player anymore, Terry? Last season maybe but i could name at least 5 2 guards in the league who are better than him. Marion won’t stay in the same place long enough to even have his slim all star chances be considered, I’ll give you a pass on Dirk but Josh Howard? you gotta be kidding me he’s not an All Star right now
