Introducing a Bulkier, Stronger Chris Paul

The world’s greatest point guard has added some strength and mass to his frame this summer: “Paul has begun most days this offseason with workouts aimed at improving his strength, and his new bulk was evident at his basketball camp. Last season, he often logged close to 40 minutes a game and was worn out by the playoffs, when New Orleans appeared punchless in a lopsided first-round loss to Denver. Paul estimated that he is now between 10 and 15 pounds heavier than he was as a rookie in 2005-06. ‘It’s to make sure I’m durable for the season, for the amount of minutes I play,’ he said.”

How will this affect his quickness?

  • Anton Posted: Jul.30 at 10:10 am
Chris Paul is the greatest point guard of all time

  • DollaChoppa Posted: Jul.30 at 10:17 am
So if hes 10-15 pounds heavier than he was his rookie season….hes gained what? 3 pounds this offseason? Cuz he definitely didn’t put it all on this offseason. There really is no story here.

I like how the “best pg in the world” changes on SLAM depending on who is writing.

” ,for the amount of minutes I play.” Take that! Is it just me or is that a giant hint for a good backup PG?

  • German Reignman Posted: Jul.30 at 10:54 am
Not good enough for “Muscle Watch” TM

  • WhaHos Posted: Jul.30 at 11:57 am
“greatest PG of all time”? lol

  • Z Posted: Jul.30 at 12:10 pm
Mo Charlo… no it doesn’t. It has been CP3 for a while now. Who’s saying otherwise?

  • Logues Posted: Jul.30 at 12:22 pm
Z: well, SLAM did do a cover with Deron Williams on ish 124 pretty much saying that he was the best in the league (Ryne Nelson), while Lang Whitaker in the same issue says he is the best pg in the world today.

  • Logues Posted: Jul.30 at 12:23 pm
i meant to say chris paul about the second part with Lang

i meant to put chris paul in the second part with Lang

  • YKnot Posted: Jul.30 at 12:34 pm
According to Joe Buddens, Brandon Jennings is the best pg of all time.

Logues: When has Ryne ever been right?

  • Leo Posted: Jul.30 at 4:43 pm
This is nice and all but, what really matters is how well Okafor plays with CP. Strength and bulk is good, but a good offense where CP doesn’t have to do everything is better.

  • rob stewart Posted: Jul.30 at 5:00 pm
CP3 doesn’t need to get any bigger. He can convert some of that baby fat to muscle but that’s it. He shouldn’t get bigger than 180

  • Boing Dynasty aka Free Lester Hudson Posted: Jul.30 at 5:13 pm
You can loose fat, and build muscle, you dont convert it. And Okafor is going to get dunked all over by Nene’s magic brazilian hops, if they match up in the playoffs again.

  • Sesa Posted: Jul.30 at 7:10 pm
is he trying to defend PF? How gaining weight makes one durable?

  • kadavour Posted: Jul.30 at 7:45 pm
muscular endurance translates to durability throughout the season. his body will be able to handle the nightly beatings and regenerate faster.

  • Dacre Posted: Jul.30 at 9:09 pm
sesa must be a string bean…? or he’s wondering why all that KFC doesn’t translate to cross country skiing championships.

  • Blinguo Posted: Jul.30 at 9:29 pm
You really lose like 10-15 lbs during the season anyway, one player said, think it was Andrei Kirelenko? but good news anyway in a season of no news besides Okafor for NO fans.

  • clapzilla Posted: Jul.30 at 10:14 pm
Pacers Fans, Don’t Be Surprised If Paul Goes Off For 38 & 16 On You Next Season. That or He’ll Shoot 11-33 And Have 6 TOs. Either Way, He’s Gonna Try Like Hell To Show Up Dahntay Jones.

  • Darksaber Posted: Jul.30 at 10:47 pm
i am so distraught to see Lang didn’t report this as part of his Muscle watch TM. What the what, Whitaker? You is slipping!

  • Blinguo Posted: Jul.30 at 11:27 pm
Well in his defense, there weren’t a lot being reported, so he asked us to send them in if we see them. And that was a while ago! Other non-news this off season getting more air time and headlines.

  • Sesa Posted: Jul.31 at 7:39 am
@Dacre, I’ve been ups and downs in the terms of having muscle mass. I usually played point guard or a ball handler. The thing is with some muscle added, you lost some flexibility. And then there’s those knee issues about how they take more beatings from the inside of our body more

  • Tommy F Posted: Jul.31 at 8:04 am
    What’s an Oka-For?
    For dunking on silly!

  • Moose Posted: Aug.1 at 9:17 am
Tommy F, an Oka-For is for dunking on….people.

  • CLydeSays Posted: Aug.3 at 6:46 am
…and he’s still 5′10. I like CP3, but he’s got to work on his D. Playing help D on his own man just going for the steal doesn’t count as ‘defense’.
