John Kuester to Coach Pistons?

After cutting ties with Avery Johnson today, it looks like the Pistons might be turning to an obscure name to be the franchise’s sixth coach in the past 10 years: “Avery Johnson will not be the next coach of the Detroit Pistons, who are instead closing in on hiring Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach John Kuester. [...] Sources close to the process told ESPN.com that the job would instead go to Kuester in a deal likely to be completed later Tuesday or Wednesday. The Pistons’ pursuit of Johnson ended, sources said, because Detroit — having paid both Flip Saunders and recently fired Michael Curry last season and still owing an estimated $5 million to Curry over the next two seasons — was only prepared to extend a two-year offer to Johnson with a team option for a third season.”

Looks like we are going to get to see what kind of a job Mike Brown can do in Cleveland without his offensive guru… Keep up the good work Brownie

Cleveland Offese last year: Give ball to LeBron, if you’re big stand in the paint and wait for rebounds, if you’re small stand on the three point line and shoot threes when LeBron passes to you. Repeat process for the next 48 minutes.

Offensive guru?! If this was the guy responsible for Cleveland’s O… good riddance! How about running a freaking play where all 5 guys are in motion? The high screen n rool is Cleveland’s ONLY play.

Among John Kuester’s sterling head coaching resume was the 1-27 record he compiled in the ’88-’89 season as the lead man at George Washington University. 1 F*CKING WIN?!?! IN COLLEGE?!?! Please Lord, tell me this is a nightmare.

I might jump off a cliff after work today…

@wayno: good luck with that… anyways, this cant be any worse than last season. between the billups trade and Michael Curry being head coach, Detroit went from my #1 team to my #29…… Dallas in case ur wondering.

yeah, idk what dumars is thinking. first off firing saunders last summer was ridiculous, and now you hire a guy who’s main offensive scheme was: Bron, take it up and look for a shot, if you can’t get anything within 30 feet pass it to one of those other guys that we pay to stand around.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Cleveland’s only play last year: Pass it to LeBron. Mo, stand at the 3. Sasha, Wally, why are you standing on the court? “Coach we only have 3 guys out there”. Don’t talk back to me.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    LeBron will be named player-coach.

holy sh*t that was gold Anton

  • Gerald

I played for him, he sucked then because he didn’t know how to relate or talk to his players. If he improved on that then you should be fine.
