Meet the Rockets’ New Center

Some guy named David Andersen will be in charge of filling the void left by Yao Ming. Good luck with all of that, Dave: “Yao? Yao? Yao? Well, no. David Andersen is not the Australian Yao Ming. He could, however, be the Australian Brad Miller. And he should play for the Rockets more than enough to bring that cheer – Aussie. Aussie. Aussie. Oi. Oi. Oi. – to Toyota Center. As soon as he signs a contract, which should not take a day or two, he will be penciled in as the Rockets new starting center.”

That was sooo awkward to read. Thanks… Marcel?
I’ll have a comment on it in a minute, I guess, to uphold the ‘native’ voice here.

BTW, I wouldn’t call him a centre either. He’s more of a hybrid. He played the 4 during the Olympics with Bogut and Anstey at the 5 spots. If he starts though… Houston is in more sh*t than even I thought they would be. To me, Morey got very desperate. I guess we’ll see though. Good luck to David, and I hope he has a lot of success in H-town, and it’ll be nice to have an Australian actually PLAYING over in the Western Conference, now that Mills is down, Jawai will likely get cut from Dallas, and Newley won’t be coming over this year.

Never heard of him, but hope to see him play. If he can be half as good as Brad Miller then that’s all they need because Scola seems to be getting better every oppurtuniy he gets.

oi oi oi. aussie aussie aussie

  • nicko

god this rash is killing me

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Hursty, i’m surprised you think it’s that bad, i thought he was a very nice pick up for Houston, sure it’s not an established NBA center, but they added a very capable center and gave up no one. The guy has a nice shot that goes out to 3 point range, good passer…he’s got issues defending one on one, but he fits the Adelman offense perfectly…and if yao manages to come back this year, or even next, and actually stays healthy (a big if i know), he’d fit playing alongside yao.

  • Krishan

    Nicko wins

  • what

    “some guy named david andersen”?
wow, great experts hanging around here

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

actually a very nice pickup, got him for basically nothing and he fits in very well in adelman’s offense…has some passing skills, a jumper that stretches out the 2 point line and a lto fo experience. He’s weakness is single defensive coverage and he’s not a great rebounder, but Houston’s team D and team rebounding should help there.

Dave Anderson? Isnt that the Wendy’s guy?

    hell yea blaze! lol

  • Rusty

Nice player, wouldnt want him to be starting but still not a bad player, has made first team all euro league before and played of a few title teams.

  • Rusty

    trade him for shaq!

  • KazLaker

Definately a very interesting move… Not sure how it will work out, but it’ll be good to see another Aussie brother playing in the L

Hursty or RV: I’m not framiliar with Andersen’s game. Can he operate/pass out of the high post?

  • GGG

He is a good player by Australian league standards but I think he has just passed his prime – atleast thats why I am surprised anyhow. All the best to him regardless!

Mills injuy is just plain cruel to the Aussie bball scene.

I’ll answer my own question–according to the rockets’ director of scouting:”Offensively, he’s special,” said Rosas. “He’s a guy who can face up, find cutters, play at the elbow. He’s very versatile, kind of like how Pau Gasol is in the offensive post. He’s a skilled passer from the high post. I think what makes him special is his ability to pick and pop. He’s a little bit like [Toronto forward] Andrea Bargnani.”"

Annnd, after 10 more minutes of research I love this signing.

GGG – Read the article. Mindless comments like your first second aren’t necessary. He’s NEVER PLAYED IN AUSTRALIA except for the National Team.
Nick, yeh he’s a good passer, but he’s a bit of a headcase I think. Oh well, if you and RV are happy to have him, I guess I am as well.
He’s more athletic than Yao (duh) and most other centres, so we should be able to run more this year.
    Go Rockets!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Wow… I really hope Yao can come back eventually. I don’t care how “athletic” this guy is, he’s never going to be better than Yao. Although, I think I’m pretty optimistic about this guy.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I expect to see Carl Landry get a lot more burn this year. As for the Rockets rebounding, I have one obvious solution: JOEY DORSEY. He’s been rebounding like a madman this summer!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I miss T-Mac, Ron Artest, and Yao Ming already.

  • U

Ok, this guy is a chump. He is from down Frankston way and is a chump, even when he played with the Blues. His knees have always been bad, and whilst he has some offensive skill (mid range and passer) he is a slow player (shooter/mover) and will get murder when anyone with shoulders (such as millsap, bass even) backs him down with the post as he is unbelieveably soft and weak. Id take dorsy over him anyday, he is a solid euro league player but not ready for the L. Good luck H-town, ur gona need it

AWESOME!!! I love seeing Aussies crack the NBA level – even if they bust an ankle O_o?!?!
What is going to be REALLY AWESOME – is seeing this guy on NBALive 2010?!

  • ab_40

if he and dorsey can hold the fort till yao comes back in feb or march they’ll do just fine. he’ll be productive because he can play basketball. I don’t know if he’s athletic enough but he surely is skilled enough. But doesn’t he have to get a buyout from barcelona?

  • http://slamonline Blaze

    Ben Wallace is available.

  • kawit1898

The addition of David Andersen is well and good and will certainly help the Rockets. However, why not add depth by also bringing back Wang Zhi Zhi to help out?

  • Fauzi

Get Ben Wallace at discount :p

  • jeremy

the guy has been a premier big over in europe for quiet some time always been invloved in winning teams which is no coincidence . the hawks put off bringing him over then the year they were the hawks fired there gm and the new one wanted another year to assess him
the guys a nba talent and look and the history of guys coming over from europe luis scola for one and Arvydas Sabonis
ithink your getting a good player dorsey bringing robounding hayes the defense and anderson the offense ram all of them together you get yao ming
