Millsap Stays in Utah

The Jazz matched Portland’s offer for Paul, and now it’s back to Boozer Watch again: “Paul Millsap stays. That much was made known today, when — one day prior to the deadline for doing so — it was decided by the Jazz that they’d definitely be matching the four-year $32 offer sheet that their restricted free agent power forward signed late last week with the Portland Trail Blazers.”

  • nicko

    thats betterrrr!!!…..that…is….betterrr

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

Great move by Utah. They now have a starting power forward for the next 4 years. Him and Deron Williams will hang around, but they sure could use a good shooting guard….

i dont know if theres another team that want to make a play for him besides miami.

Ronnie Brewer is ok Gerard. He hits the open shot from 3 (sometimes), and he’s a good slasher. Hustles well too. He (and excuse me if this sounds ludacris) has the same traits as Ariza imo.

  • Bart

    Ariza is vastly over rated

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Ronnie’s jumper is broke. Like way broke.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Z – yeh it is. It was embarrasing to see Kobe play 6 foot off him in the midrange area. That was… ugly. Apologies. Forgot about that ‘series’.

    So where’s Boozer headed? Miami?

  • The D Train

First Turkoglu stiffs them at the alter, now they are rebuffed in their attempts to woo Milsap. The Portland Trailblazers new 2010 slogan: “Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.”

  • ARGH

Utah needs an intervention. No more Booze.

  • chingy

Why does the slam-nation give no love to booze? He’s not one of my favs but he gets the job done.

  • chingy

If Booze goes to miami, then the shifting of power from west to east is officially completed

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

If they can’t move Booz….Welcome to luxury tax hell Utah.

  • Ken

Did the Blazers even really want Millsap? Or were they just trying to make a division rival tie up a lot more money than they needed? I think the Blazers offer was a win-win for them. They had the money to spend (while Utah is gonna be strapped now), so either they buy a good player (get millsap) or they make a division rival spend money they shouldn’t and tie them up economically in the next couple years. I don’t feel bad for the Blazers at all; this was win-win for them.

@Gerard: this is why I’d like to see a trade involving Boozer and Stephen Jackson. Jazz upgrade the two, Warriors upgrade the four, slide Maggette to his natural position and get Stephen Curry some minutes. The Warriors will have to throw in another player and/or picks, but I can see it going down.

millsap might be the hardest hustling player in the league.

  • E.

Big Deal. The jazz won’t make the playoff this year anyway. They were 8th seed and that was WITH Boozer.Brewer wouldn’t start on most teams in the league. I like Millsap but don’t think he’s better than Booz.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Mark milsap down for 18 and 11 for the next 4 years and mark booz down for 16 and 9 wherever he ends up.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

I’m so tired of the blazers for the last ten years they sign too many players.

  • http://deleted David Curran

Hmmm, did portland really need him? he wouldnt have started, aldridge is jus startin to come around

  • http://nba.com Reflex

Gortat’s got a better contract than Millsap, which makes no sense to me as Millsap’s proven his worth whereas no one knows how Gortat will fare playing 30mins per….crazy GMs

  • Vegas

Now they need a big man who can actually play defense and maybe they could fire Jerry too.

  • Quail

Did anyone else notice that it said $32 offer sheet???? hell, I’d PAY $32 to play 4 years in the NBA.

  • http://www.nba.com JE

I just want Odom to go to Portland and Rudy Fernandez to be okay with it.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

@ken. I was thinking the same thing. I think Portland had no intention on getting Millsap, If Utah had not matched I think they woulda traded him.

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

    Good catch Quail.

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

    Wow…they’re only going to pay him $8 a year…ouch…

  • Quail

    much appreciated.

Thats about as much as the ‘slam-nation’ would go as far to say also…

  • Jacob

shoot! I was hoping the Blazers would get him

  • http://slamonline Blaze

with Frye now in Phoenix, Blazers have an empty slot for a power forward. A guy whom doesn’t need a whole lot of minutes, or touches to be effective. I was originally thinking Sean May, but if they signed Ben Wallace, this would be a team to be taken very seriously. All four bigs could play either pf or center… (Aldridge,Pryzbilla,Oden,Wallace). Make it happen Paul!!!

  • http://slamonline Blaze

So, I just got former Blazer,Wizard, and Laker Tracy Murray to accept my friend request on Facebook. After b.s.ing for a few I got to thinking of some of the other great 3 point shooters of the 90s. (Dumars,Miller,Mullen,Elliot,Starks,Perkins) are a few examples. Then I remembered Glen Rice. I cant believe I havent heard that name in years. Slam should do a piece on him, and not just about how hot his wife is.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

And maybe a top 10 best passers of the 90s. Everybody wants and talks about dunks, but seeing a perfect no-look pass, or a blocked dunk attempt, I find just as entertaining.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

You know Glen Rice was one of those prolific scorers for the Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets back in the day – He was one of my favourite players for many many years – For the first 7 yrs of his career his ppg per season kept getting higher and higher. He got an allstar game MVP, did he get a championship with the lakers that year he played for them? I’m going to do some research….
    Go G MOney$$

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Is that Boozer’s arm grabbing the rebound? Hmm.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

@Dacre I think he did get that ring, I was happy for him, as much as I dont like seeing the Lakers win it, I was happy for him and Mitch Richmond. People will probably give me a hard time for this, but I was a Jr Rider fan, but he was not on the Lakers active playoff roster one year that they won it, I dont know if it counts for him.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Hmm… yeah I don’t think it does unfortunately for JR Rider… yeah he was exciting to watch – that eastbay funk dunk (the first thru the legs in the dunk comp) was straight out of an arcade game?!?!
Yeah Richmond got a ring as well – thats right…. swell. Glory days.
Robert Parish added to his championship collection too, playing his 3-7 mins a game for the bulls…that was fun…how old was he…haha… cool times.
I wonder if we’ll see LeBron in 14 yrs time hanging around the bench of the Cavs for a last championship or something…?

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

And Garnett will be sitting in the Boston garden with Bill Russell (still hanging in there…) and they’ll both be growing their white oldman beards and Garnett will be giving the other teams mental punches and just spitting at a brother…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Why are people knocking Ronnie Brewer’s game? He’s still a young player, but he’s a worthy starter. He has great length and plays good defense (a must for Jerry Sloan) and he knocks down shots. He’s also a pretty athletic slasher.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I can’t recall the last person to knock Ronnie Brewer out of hand…?
