Cuban & Co. hire the Matrix.
As it had been previously rumored, The Matrix is now reportedly a Dallas Maverick.
Mark Cuban’s computer screen apparently told him this was a good idea, and he pulled the trigger on a rather complicated deal to acquire Marion. Involved in the transaction are the Mavs, Raptors, and either the Grizzlies or Thunder.
The Star-Telegram explains:
An NBA source said Wednesday that the deal for the 6-foot-7 forward will happen and that a trade call with the NBA office had been set up for today. Barring unforeseen circumstances, the deal will go through today. Details weren’t completely known. But it’s a sure thing that Jerry Stackhouse is the principle piece moving from the Mavericks to Toronto. But it is likely he will move on from there.
It matters not for Stackhouse, because he will be an unrestricted free agent when he is bought out by the team that eventually ends up with him. That team, which is believed to be Memphis or Oklahoma City, will absorb a $2 million salary, the guaranteed portion of his 2009-2010 contract. Other players could be involved in the deal, although none of the Mavericks’ key personnel will be involved.
As the linked article points out, the Mavs could potentially roll out a starting lineup that looks like this next season: Gortat, Nowitzki, Marion, Howard and Kidd, plus Terry reprising his sixth man role.
That, of course, isn’t enough to win a title, but it’s certainly nothing to sneeze at either.

He will never find out how deep the rabbit hole goes.
I read somewhere that Jason Kidd’s setshots from 3 where really high percentage, but don’t know where it was.
I think with this team they are competing hard for the 3rd spot in the West. Can they beat a healthy Lakers or Spurs team? I don’t think so. But what trade or signing could they have done to look better than the real contenders?

So Fresh/Clean had it mostly right:
DAL gets Hump, Nathan Juwai, and Matrix
TOR gets George and Wright
DAL also picks up Greg Buckner (whoa) from MEM
MEM gets the stack, a 2016 2nd round pick from TOR, and cash for stack’s buyout (2 mil, I guess).
Orlando gets a trade exemption for future deals (Turkoglu is somehow wrapped up in this thing, too) and Tdot manages to save enough cap space for maybe one other. Crazy, convoluted deal, makes me wish I was Brian Collangelo’s accountant.
Not me.
The man was tired of being told Steve Nash “made him.” So he bounced.
Joe Johnson did the same thing.
Amare is considering it.
The point being, why don’t y’all get mad at the folks who kept saying Steve Nash “made” any of the Phoenix players who they are instead of getting mad at players who made business decisions based on their personal happiness.
Seems a little asinine.
While Joe Johnson proved he WAS being held back being a third option in Phoenix, Marion is making himself look like a fool.
Had Marion stayed in Phoenix and continued to ‘be made’ by Steve Nash and D’Antoni’s system, he probably would have a much bigger contract than what he has in Dallas.

Why would Dallas get Marion if they have Josh Howard? For fun?
I’m baffled that no journalist has ever dug deep to see what the hell was going on in that locker room! NOBODY was ever happy. Mike D? Whiner. Nash? Whiner. STAT? Whiner. Matrix? Whiner. Joe Johnson? Pouter. Raja? Whiner. Boris Diaw? Pouter. They were playing an electric kind of basketball but those guys where NOT getting along. It’s not a coincidence that every but Nash is gone and STAT is on his way out. Truth is that Nash didn’t ‘make’ a single one of these guys. They all either performed very well before he got there or after they left. They were a good team and he was part of that good team. I don’t know why everybody kept forcing us the you-will-regret-this-for-the-rest-of-your-life rethoric. I remember the Sports Guy going NUTS that Joe left for Atlanta because he wouldn’t be able to duplicate his success over there. Turned out okay for him, no?
i think that they will be the 6th seed.
lakers, spurs, nuggets, blazers, jazz, dallas, hornets, golden st/rockets.
Nash at the time probably ‘made’ Amare too, since he was purely a physical player, but since then Amare has expanded his game to the point where he doesn’t need Nash’s help. Nash also made Richardson, Bell, and Thomas relevant again.
On the downside, Nash probably held back Diaw and Joe Johnson, since those guys are much more effectively playing more with the ball and working it themselves.
What I dont’ get is how other point guards don’t get credit for doing these things– I mean, I’m pretty sure Jason Kidd made both Jefferson and Kenyon Martin. They are NOT the players they once were when playing with Kidd.
@ Z: Shawn Marion was made by his point guards, practically. To be fair, though, he’s a great finisher that helped point guards like Nash and co. to rack up assists like madmen.
Obviously a good finisher is valuable, but the two aren’t even close in terms of “rarity”. And James Worthy/Karl Malone are both light years ahead of Shawn Marion, so that’s not a great comparison. Put Karl Malone and Worthy on different teams, they’d still be phenomenal players in their own rights. Shawn Marion? Well, you’ve seen him in Miami and Toronto…
