Rubio Leaving Spanish Club

News sources are reporting that: “Ricky Rubio plans to part ways with Spanish basketball club DKV Joventut even if the Minnesota Timberwolves cannot reach a deal to bring their first round draft pick to the NBA.”  Rubio was quoted as saying: “”I want to continue with the club but, after everything that’s happened, I don’t think they’re too comfortable having me in their squad…I want to play in a winning team, on a team that can achieve many things.”

Guess that last part rules out the L-Wolves.

  • MalanaCream

    The overrated player!

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

    LOL@ Tzvi

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

LOL@ Tzvi. was thinking the same thing!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Tzvi nailed it.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

Since when do draft picks get to pick who they will and wont play for? You think Bosh LIKES it in Toronto, or Harden is going to LIKE being in OKC?

  • http://www.facebook.com/jackgoodrich Jack

Harden’s gonna love being in OKC. With Westbrook and Durant either side of him? He’s in a position where he can grow into one of the best triple threat group in the L.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Alex

I don’t like this kid. He’s so spanish, i.e. he looks greasy and he whines and whines. he’s need to get his mop cut and see ahead… anybody, especially a player from europe, should be grateful enough to play in the L, regardless of who its for. if you are good enough, a ring or trade to a contender will come.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Alex, whenever he decides to come to the States, he’ll have to go through Sota. BTW, OKC is going to be something serious. They just need a low post scorer. I haven’t seen enough of Jeff Green, can he defend backdown 4s adequately?

  • dave

rubio is a little punk. i dont want him in the league

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

Alex, I don’t know how many comments this Rubio news will get, but yours will stand out as the most ridiculous already.

  • Josh D

He’ll probably end up with Real,Barca, Tua, or Unicaja hope he joins the same team as Jeremy Tyler that would be one sick team

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com/ Seth

Does this mean he’s gonna come to his senses and regroup with Minny? Or what is going on inside that mop head? Come on [over], Ricky!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

I just dont know if Im going to have enough crow to serve everyone when everything works out. Do they sell that at Costco? Sams Club?

  • vmcb

Blaze, have you ever even been to Toronto? Aside from the fact that it’s in Canada (which very may well be a huge factor), it is definitely top 10 in the league, city-wise.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I just think Ricky has some people giving him bad advice on how to handle matters.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

^ Like HIMSELF? Maybe HE’S actually responsible for HIS own decisions?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LOL @ Blaze: Are you stupid? Toronto is one of the best cities that has an NBA team. What the heck are you talking about? You’ve obviously never been to Toronto… I’m sure you’d prefer the likes of Utah, or OKC, or Minnesota. Right. Forget what vmcb said, Toronto is a TOP 5 city in the NBA.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Teddy: I’m not saying that Ricky isn’t responsible for his own actions at all, I just think that maybe his parents or maybe his agent or whoever he trusts in his inner circle may be giving him bad advice. But true enough, he is the final word on his own decisions at the end of the day.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com DP

Rubio, suck it. play wit it.

  • Krishan

If he does end up in Sota, that backcourt is going to be one of the worst in the NBA next year…

  • that dude

Yeah but toronto is in canada. and canada is JV USA.

  • nick adams

I love Americans who talk junk about Canada … who have never even been here. I’ve never been to OKC, & pretty sure its not for me, but Harden should like it, especially as he’s gonna be on a good team. JV USA? Whatever.

Oh, & Spanish people look greasy? Some real genius responses going on here …

  • http://slamonline.com YKnot

Steve Francis was crucified for pleading for a trade to Houston, but we put up with this Rubio mess and he still gets love? Only in America/Spain.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

I’d come up with something proud and snide defending Toronto right now. But I can’t since my city is knee deep in trash thanks to a bunch of short sighted union leaders and a gaggle of politicians more intent on self-preserving spin than actual work.

  • chintao

It’s not going to be working-out Myles. Hope YOU like crow.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

Ignoring Teddy, @ vmcb. No, I have never been to Toronto, I have been to Vancouver B.C. And it was an awesome experience. I have heard Toronto is also a pretty cool place to be, and I know its a totally different city and culture then Vanc. The point of my original comment was about really good players going to really bad teams, and how some can youngsters get to decline the team they are headed to. If I was to talk about boring nba cities, I have a few ideas but Toronto is not one of them.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

@Teddy- I see you on here all the time, and usually respect your views. Your being insulting is not appreciated, Im entitled to opinions just as anyone else, and your the 2nd guy who took my statement out of context.

  • http://gmail dirty frank

Despite the fact that I am a fan of the NBA I think times have changed and more and more players will have a say in what team they play for in their rookie years. To hate on a profesional basketball player for choosing where he plays is like hating on anybody who has quit a job or turned down a job offer to work somewhere else.

  • http://gmail dirty frank

If he doesn’t play profesionally for one year he can re-enter the draft next year and be selected by any team.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

Not that I think Rubio is that great. He kinda reminds me of the old Jason Williams of Sacramento, hes a good ball handler, and his no-look bullet passes is enough to get me to watch, but his jumper is a little shaky, and his defense is softer then Richard Simmons cuddling his teddy bear.

  • http://yahoo.com looman40

how come every time one of the writers of SLAM makes a joke, atleast one person has to kiss as* and make a comment like LOL@ Tzvi. is that really neccessary, just casue i think somethin is funny i dont feel the need the type LOL, there not gonna give u a free subscription if u LOL at there comment

  • Yassi

@looman40: its “their” not “there” and that was the best part of your comment, the rest I wont even consider responding to.

  • http://slamonline.com/online/category/blogs/fear/ Freedom Fries

Dear Alex, good for you. Why be tolerant of anyone ever? Swap out Spanish for Black – greasy for cornrows, whines for raps and Europe for the Ghetto – yep you sound like a clan member. Ya proud now?

  • http://www.broy7.com nate the great

i just want rubio in the nba to get smashed on by some real point guards.

  • Dionisio

On ESPN they state that Rubio has the option of sitting out playing basketball for a year. If he does that he can re-enter the draft and be selected by another team. What compensation does Minni get if that happens?

  • al

Alex, I beg your pardon for being European, and I will be grateful everytime I can read from you and inspire me with your broad knowledge…

  • rav

@dionisio – minny would get nothing, but that would mean he sits out pro ball for a year (i think he could go to a div1 college if he is eligible)

  • FrenchKiss

SLAM should have a special “emo” issue, with Ricky on the cover.
With a special feature on Adam Morrisson giving us all the best tips on how to cry like a mustache.

  • http://www.dimemag.com Powerslave

What, is the weather not good enough again?

  • http://Slamonline.com Spaceship Jay

As I was reading these posts, I was wondering if anyone was going to catch the whole “I don’t like him; he’s spanish” comment.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Two things I love about every Ricky Rubio conversation:
    2) Suddenly the defensive player of the year for the ACB who has lead the league in steals since he was 15 is a bad defender. How did we come to this conclusion? He’s “spanish, which means he’s greasy and whines” or whatever other racist ideas that people are spouting?
    BETCATS owes me a coke.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

I’m still waiting for someone to answer me why Rubio is suddenly a terrible defender

  • http://slamonline.com s.e.a.n

@Jukai, it’s because most people that comment on this site have no clue what they’re talking about..like Blaze.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

    Stop. Eating. Asshole., Nerd

  • http://slamonline.com s.e.a.n

    Real mature.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Blaze wants to corner that craving for himself.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

I just love being ganged up on by you disrespectful fux. Ive been around the game a long time, longer then a lot of you have been alive.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Blaze, explain to me why the current ACB Defensive Player of the Year is soft on defense?

  • http://slamonline Blaze

compared to NBA defense, it seems soft. It was mostly a shot at teddy, but in all honesty, do you really see this skinny-ass kid slowing Chris Paul, Deron Williams, or D.Wade?

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Blaze: No, of course I don’t. No one in the NBA can slow Paul, Williams, or Wade. There are no more hayday Jason Kidds and Gary Paytons… Kobe doesn’t play on defense anymore, and the rest of the SUPREMELY TALENTED defenders in the league (outside of maybe Battier) are too slow to slow down super quick guards like that.
Can Rubio slow down a Kirk Hinrich? A Flip Murray? A Mario Chalmers? A Mike Taylor?
I say they get shut down.

  • https://slamonline.com Allenp

Cue the comment about the Olympics…..NOW

  • https://slamonline.com Allenp

    You sleeping on Flip.
Not saying he’s a “good” player, but he cooks cats. Seriously.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Allenp, get the f out of here. Really now.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

… I mean… we’re talking about the same Flip, right?

  • http://slamonline.com YKnot

I mean we talking about the same Rubio right?

  • http://fsdklf.com Jukai

Of course not Y’Knot. You’ve never seen Rubio, so I assume you’d never talk about someone you have absolutely zero knowledge about, right?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

“Can Rubio slow down a Kirk Hinrich? A Flip Murray? A Mario Chalmers? A Mike Taylor?
I say they get shut down.” Jukai fails as usual.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Chalmers would be so high, he’d lose the ball 60 times to Rubio, Eboy. Just incase you were wondering.

  • http://yahoo.com looman40

do Jukai and Eboy live on this website?

  • i2k

we wont know what rubio can do until he actually plays in the league i personnal think he wll find it hard for the 1st few years where ever he is, as the step up from euro ball to the nba is huge. Not having the luxury of living in the usa i have to watch euro ball and the most case it sucks
