Rudy Fernandez Hurt By Blazers’ Hedo Courtship

Hurt enough to possibly return to Europe: “Portland’s pursuit of a certain player from Turkey has infuriated the Trail Blazers’ lone remaining Spanish player, Rudy Fernandez, to the point where he’d prefer to play in Greece, Russia or even Spain again. A league source told ESPN.com that Fernandez has already been courted informally by European powerhouses Olympiacos, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and CSKA Moscow as word spread that the Blazers had become the apparent front-runners to land free agent Hedo Turkoglu. Fernandez, who paid more than $500,000 of his own money to buy his way out of his contract with DKV Joventut, believes he can earn 5 million euros per season if he signs a three-year contract in Europe. He is due to make $1.1 million from the Blazers next season.”

He should stay in the best league in the world. It’s like leaving the English Premier League or the Champions League to the MLS for publicity. Rudy–or LeBron eventually, for that matter–better not pull a Beckham.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Jul.2 at 11:05 am
why is he salty? if anyone, outlaw and webster should be worried about minutes.

  • Z Posted: Jul.2 at 11:16 am
There is nothing to be angry about. Turk and B-Roy are better than you, deal with it.

i AGREe with Tarzan. Outlaw should be the most frustrated about playing time. He deserves to be out there.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Jul.2 at 12:05 pm
I hope Rudy stays in the NBA…. that’s all I have to say about this.

  • TADOne Posted: Jul.2 at 12:12 pm
I hope Dumars gets on the phone and inquires about his services. Although, i’m not sure where he would fit.

  • Myles Brown Posted: Jul.2 at 12:16 pm
Trade Flynn for Fernandez and that would solve our Rubio problem.

My only question is this - what happens if Turk doesn’t go to Portland?

  • Prison Mike Posted: Jul.2 at 1:46 pm
    Trade him for Shaq!

  • JoeMaMa Posted: Jul.2 at 1:58 pm
Emotions play next to no role in this one. 5 million euros >>>> 1.1 million ‘american dollars’. What else to say??!!?

  • Momma No Like Cold Posted: Jul.2 at 2:12 pm
Myles, you don’t need another malcontent in the Wolves picture. Maybe Ricky + Rudy can find a crying room.

  • nicko Posted: Jul.2 at 2:29 pm
Trade him for Shaq! agreeeeeed….and yes PLEASE FREE J BAYLESS

I’d rather have Rudy than Hedo, honestly.

  • a_whiteman Posted: Jul.2 at 3:58 pm
I hope colangelo and calderon give rudy a call…

  • seven deuce Posted: Jul.2 at 5:16 pm
I truly don’t understand Portland going for Hedo. He’s not an off the ball player and B-Roy is often initiating the offense for the squad. Oh well, take that soft ass dummy off the Magic’s squad so we can make a play for Lamar Odom.

  • Blaze Posted: Jul.2 at 6:53 pm
Im a lifelong blazer fan, not so much a fan of Hedo. Was hoping we would trade Frye for Villonavia to back aldridge, And Blake + Webster for Devin Harris. Hedo’s Experience will make Portland one of the top teams in the west, I just dont care for him.

  • Blaze Posted: Jul.2 at 6:56 pm
Blake (sadly) isn’t going anywhere. Management for some reason really has a hard-on for him. He’s a pretty good play-maker and decent shooter but I’d prefer a more explosive point at starter. (Bayless)

  • rav Posted: Jul.2 at 8:15 pm
“I hope colangelo and calderon give rudy a call… ” bosh for rudy, aldridge, outlaw and a 1st rounder

  • roybot Posted: Jul.2 at 8:27 pm
    haha rav, your silly.

  • Blinguo Posted: Jul.2 at 9:48 pm
He knows this is 2009 and there’s no 1 token Euro player per team, as per Stern rules or anything right?

  • Peter Posted: Jul.2 at 10:03 pm
The Nets won’t trade Devin Harris for Blake + Webster, you kidding? The Nets are in very solid shape for the 2010 FA, esp. with Devin Harris and Brook Lopez as probable All-Stars by then for CHEAP. Fernandez should just play hard and inflate his value for after next season. The teams chasing superstars will need complementary players (or developing solid/good players) for those stars, and Fernandez can hop along and screw the Blazers.

  • Zac Johnson Posted: Jul.3 at 12:03 am
Hedo is awesome, and Orlando should pay him to stay. Then they would own the EAST and possibly the title!

  • nate the great Posted: Jul.3 at 1:20 am
no no no Blaze. im also a lifetime blazer fan.
and to be honest here. Hedo would not make us a top team.
my idea’s for this blazer team is to trade Outlaw and Blake for tayshaun.
We need an offball players at the point guard position and Small Forward.
people to compliment the big (medium 3).
than pick up Kirk our Bibby to play point. and antonio mcdyse to backup l.a.
    (free agent point) bayless
    broy-rudy (webster)
    tayshuan-batum (webster)
    Lamarcus-mcdyse
    oden-joel

  • nate the great Posted: Jul.3 at 1:24 am
or another thought of mine was to package bayless and lamarcus and pick up amare.
also trade joel for chandler. and pick up kirk or bibby and or trade for mcdyse. and than maybe get hedo at the small forward.
    so be like
    bibby or kirk. blake
    brandon roy
    hedo
    amare
    oden.
like turn into an amazing offencsive power house.
cause i honestly dont see lamarcus’s ceiling being that hight. honestly.
amare you kno is a 20-10 guy.
and he never had to play D. but his body size, strenght, and speed is perfect. a guy like mcmillan can teach him to play D. i see it.
But this idea is h3lla iffy to me.
i dont like Hedo that much at all. i dont.
i rather have a pass first point, (j-kidd) a vet to teach bayless to be a great prospect, and a non ball hog sf to compliment roy and lamarcus.
and joel and steve are the ‘father’ type players these young guys need.

  • nate the great Posted: Jul.3 at 1:28 am
just so many possibilitys but id love to see a tayshaun in a blazer jersey. he fits in perfect. and him and batum being a one two punch at small. outlaw can slide and play behind lamarcus at the 4power forward spot. rudy can stay, and webster can back up brandon, and if we get any big name point in miller, bibby, kirk, or J-kidd at the point. we would be a great team.
i think the blazers are ‘pretending’ to have intrest in players like hedo and ariza so other teams can make runs at them with more money. cause only limited teams have money.
so after they ‘waste’ money on players the players left (which we need mostley) we can pay for them cheaper without worrying about other teams making higher bids.
    smart i think.
i hope K-P is doing that.
i hate hedo.. almost more than dirk.

Does Anyone Else Get The Impression That All These Spaniards Are Total Babies? I’m The Only One? Really? Okay.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.3 at 3:12 am
The sad thing about the Bayless situation, is the dude can ACTUALLY play. He’s got real potential, this guy. If the Blazers were smart they’d give him the freaking starting position.

  • CESITAR Posted: Jul.3 at 3:39 am
i prefer Rudy instead Hedo at blazers

  • AK Posted: Jul.3 at 6:50 am
clapzilla: all these spaniards are good enough to play starter minutes. And the NBA is not the only option to play pro ball. People absolutely fails to understand that Europe is a perfectly good place to play and get ur paycheck. So its simple: no minutes = bye bye!

  • rav Posted: Jul.3 at 7:33 am
@ CESITAR - and rudy comes at 10% of the price that hedo will likely charge (not hating on hedo here, but he isn’t a $10-12m a year player like some sources are claiming is being offered to him)

  • rav Posted: Jul.3 at 4:05 pm
deal agreed in principle for hedo to go to the blazers

  • Darksaber Posted: Jul.4 at 7:37 am
    rav: umm, nope.

  • chazz michael michaels Posted: Jul.5 at 3:28 am
Rudy word of adive from the Chazzmiester… Just Beat It!!!!!!

  • David Curran Posted: Jul.17 at 2:47 pm
Im not really a big fan of either of them
