Sterling Wants Iverson; Does Anyone Else?

Says here that the Clippers’ owner has little organizational support in his pursuit of The Answer: “Clippers owner Donald Sterling wants Allen Iverson, but not many of his top basketball people are thinking along those lines. ‘It’s out of our control,’ complained one Clipper executive this past week. ‘This is owner-driven.’ Apparently, Sterling has noted that Clippers tickets are moving as slowly as L.A. traffic. He sees Iverson as a box-office draw, even in a bench role following a disastrous season in Detroit that ended with him being sent home for the playoffs. But it’s pretty clear that Iverson, a free agent one GM called ‘our league’s Barry Bonds,’ isn’t in coach Mike Dunleavy’s plans.”

I thought Memphis was in pursuit of AI…

  • zabba

I thought Iverson’s twilight years would’ve ended more gracefully than this.

  • sixersforlife_85

    Come home Iverson….come home.

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

Iverson can’t do it without Kyle Korver.

  • http://allanzuss@yahoo.com Mendel

This is bullsh!t. Bobcats please shell out the 5 million.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Barry Bonds?!? So now Iverson is being related to a drug cheat?

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

^Yeah, I don’t really understand that analogy either, Tad. Has Ivey put on an extra 80pds. of muscle in the offseason that we don’t know about?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Stop playing stupid you two, the Bonds comparison is not about steriods, its about race. White people (somewhat justifingly) hated bonds and (unjustifingly) used race in their argument (ie the N-Word). Iverson being hated on by the ‘box seat crowd’ is no secret either, and his off the court demeanor gets magnified just like Bonds steriods issues were. The difference is that Bonds CHEATED and Iverson just lived his life. Either way, they both have huge groups of haters….STOP BEING BLIND TO REAL ISSUSES

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

for a example of Iverson hate by the media, remember the false gambling story? “Iverson Kicked Out Of Casino” was on the home page here for 2-3 days. When it was finally cleared up as false, the story was put on the ‘News and Rumors’ tab and a link was placed on the article clearing things up, because it is not anything special. My Point: for 2-3 days peoples true colors showed on Iverson hate in ALL of the media. Not saying SLAM is full of Iverson haters, everyone here loves AI, but even the ‘best of the best’ backshelf the truth in order to showcase the sexy stuff which is not always the truth.

  • underdog

Allen Iverson + Mike Dunleavy = DISASTER.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Brad & TAD: do you want me to explain the analogy in simpler terms with less syllables? Or do you want me to record a video using hand puppets? It’s a very simple analogy, not very hard to understand.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

And BETCATS is on drugs or soemthing.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Yes BETCATS, we hate Barry Bonds cause he’s black, not cause he cheated at a professional sport or anything.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Sarcasm is dead.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

no no no Jukai thats not what i said. I said people would be saying sh!t like “That n**** bonds needs to kill himself, Hank Aaron is still the true home run king”. You do not READ but skim over what i say, try the contrary of that. I also said hate of Bonds was somewhat justified (i only say somewhat because the pitchers he was going up against were all juicers too) but that idiots were throwing Bonds race out their in insults of him. Just like people will say “that idiotic hoodrat Iverson is such a cancer” are doing now.

  • ciroqobama

OR maybe both Bonds and AI are just as$holes?

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Who? Uneducated dumb southerners? What does that have to do with a VALID comparison between AI and Bonds?

  • http://slamonline.com s.e.a.n

Is there ANY possibility that A.I could sign with Philly?

  • http://www.hoopsmanifesto.blogspot.com Jeff Fox

C’mon Sterling, you obviously aren’t reading my blog like you are supposed to – I said DO NOT sign AI.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Jukai obviously hid under a rock or didnt check out the comment sections at AOL and ESPN or any other ‘major media outlet visited primarly by upper class people’ on any article regarding Bonds or Iverson. Go in their and see for yourself if you can find it. And it is a very valid comparison, if you sign AI, lots of idiotic fans are going to be pissed. If you sign Bonds lots of fans are going to be pissed. Bonds was hated on because he is a cheater and race was used in insults towards him. Iverson was hated on because of his antics and race was used as a motivator. It is really not hard to understand.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I just thought that the Bonds/Iverson comparison was made regarding their inability to be signed by a league team when they still can contribute significantly. Silly me, I guess.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

@ BET, and to be serious for a second, when you wrote “That n**** bonds needs to kill himself, Hank Aaron is still the true home run king” as something you read on other website comment boxes, is it at all odd to you that the same person commenting referenced Bonds as a nig*a in the same sentence where that same person offered some form of support for Hank Aaron……..himself an African-American? Odd how stupid people don’t make sense, isn’t it?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

My example was flawed, but if anyone thinks Bonds wasnt treated differently because of his race, they realy need to look into the situation closer. Find it yourself or ignore it. Compare Bonds treatment to Roger Clemmons. Sure Bonds also caught more heat for being the ‘home run king’, but their was most defiantly a racism involved in scrutinizing Bonds. I didnt say it was the #1 motivation factor, but i am saying racists did make comments regarding Bonds.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

    *a lot of racism involved

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

BET, dumb people say dumb sh*t. Racist people say racist sh*t. Smart people say smart sh*t. It’s a pattern. But I tend to agree with you. I do think black athletes get a way worse shake in the press than white ones…….but we all know that. One of the problems is…..a ton of the American press is still white-driven, not willing to invest the time into the backstories of the “almost convicted”.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

    ^this guy gets it

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

but its not just the press, its the front offices with bigots/need to consider sales over talent and some fans of sporting leagues too. Just like you said, both can contribute. Just like i said race is a factor. Just like Jukai said its not the main factor. But it is a big deal and it is a valid comparison. Very unfortinate, because if you look at the 2 as people, they are completely different and dont deserve this (just as tad and B Long said)

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

*and 1 of them doesnt deserve this

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

All that being said…I hate Brett Favre, Terrel Owens, Rafeal Palmero, Roger Clemens, Manny Ramirez, Kobe Bryant, Chad Johnson & Ricky Rubio just the same….so I’m an equal opportunity hater and some of those guys were never accused of a crime!

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

i never said you were anything else….wipe the sweat off your forehead lol

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

BETCATS: Sorry bro, not sure I can co-sign you on this. Yes, the media hated Iverson because he was ‘black’ but if he was a black man wearing Abocrombie and Finch while playing golf and hugging babies, he’d still be universally loved. It was because of his urban lifestyle which the media connects to crime, unfairly. It’s more than black and white, it’s a lifestyle bias compounded with race.
With that being said, I still don’t know why you went on that tirade– there are legitimate reasons Iverson is not being signed, mostly because of his rant last year about being ‘the man’ or retiring.
Plus, the internet with it’s anonymousness is a breeding ground for those sorts of comments. It doesn’t stop at black bias. I’ve read comments about how Rubio is a skillless cracker who should run and join Menudo instead of playing basketball. I’ve read jokes about inferior Chinese products contributing to Yao Ming’s injury. Those were the nice ones. I don’t see how random people in AOL and ESPN chatrooms can sum up the general sentiment of the media and the united states.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Don’t try to lump my Menudo lines in with the other mindless drivel written about Pretty Ricky!!!!!!!! That’s my sh*t!!!!!

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Sorry Eboy, I was trying to ‘sweeten up’ the quoting of inappropriate comments, since I was bashed and called a racist for doing that before

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

^once again, Jukai does not read what i write. I did not say the majority, general sentiment, or anything else indicating most Americans/most people are this way. I simply pointed out that a large portion is. And i never ever ever said any form of racism is okay! What makes you think i approve of any of the comments you just said? Sure some of the hate might be a class issue with Iverson, but if you paint a zebras stripes white, it is still not a horse. Lets not pretend their is not a portion that dislikes Bonds and Iverson for their actions, then throw racial slurs out as insults in their ‘arguments’ against the 2, not improve it, but just to be racist.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

and to add on to what i said, Jukai, i never once said that race is the MAIN reason why neither Bonds or Iverson have jobs. I never said race is the MAIN reason they get hated on. I did say it is a reason.

  • Tenorca

I’m pretty sure the analogy is just “Great player who teams are reluctant to sign.” I’m with BETCATS on Bonds being treated differently as a black dude but meet us halfway that Bonds was also treated differently because he’s a notorious a-hole.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Tenorca: I am with you. People just like to skim over comments rather then read them for what they are. I am not at all saying race is the main reason for the hate on these 2. I will repeat this until people stop saying that is what im saying. I simply stated it is a side reason, and it does connect the 2.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

No one is skimming BETCATS, you just suck as a writer. When you finally graduate 3rd grade and you can write coherently, I’ll apologize for misunderstanding you. Until then, I’d hop off the soapbox until you can properly transcribe what you’re saying.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Poor BET. The Black Stallion wouldn’t stand for that!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Sorry sorry. Having a long day at work. We still friends, man?
    (douchenozzle)

  • http://dyalekt.blogspot.com d.Y.

BETcats & Eboy make learning fun.

  • JL

Please don’t let the Slam comments become like ESPN’s. Keep it friendly guys!

  • IndyB

i think its because they are both draws as far as ticket sales but will not make your team better because they are one dimensional bad teammates who were once great but are now past thier respective primes.

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

JL: Me and BETCATs go at each other all the time. We’re cool with each other. Don’t worry.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

a 3rd grader? That hurt a little bit. But on the real, i thought i was pretty clear. And yes, me and Jukai are always cool, we go togeher like alocholic father and domestic violonce.

  • http://www.myspace.com/weezyleezy337 weezy f. leezy

hall of famers that teams dont wanna take a chance on cuz they dont kiss nobody’s ass is the only comparison between them. past their prime? so is pedro and he jus got a million dollars for half a season. iverson isnt a good teamate?? he is the epitome of playing with passion and heart. i just dont get why he cant jump on a good team and get a shot at a ring like everyone else does…

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

Playign with heart and passion doesn’t make you a good teammate, weezy.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

^Playing with heart and passion doesnt either!

  • http://adfji.com Jukai

    Good point, BETCATS.

  • Felix

Allen Iverson is the reason I started playing basketball… this is killing me… He can still play!

  • http://ballislife.com Moose

Yes Felix, he can play. But he can’t WIN. That’s the problem.

  • Seven Duece

It’s sad what his career’s come to. But, he if everyone else could see it, why couldn’t he. Plus, he’s made hundreds of millions of dollars playing a game, so sympathy is out the window.

  • http://Slamonline.com Spaceship Jay

Well, a no off-season work ethic (dare I say anti-off season work ethic even?) and a Shaq like black-hole like demand for the ball at all times over the years serves as why Iverson’s career is plumetting like the shooting star he is. Or was. He’s gonna shoot 20 times at least. For 35%. And whoever he’s guarding is going to have an easy 26 points. I’ve got a lot of passion and heart too, so what can you REALLY say about that. Plus all of those negative cognitations that BET Juk and Eboy were speaking of and there you have it. Ivonut Cancer. Kimotherapy please.

  • Felix

But he’s a legend… he changed basketball… 5’10″ point guard, 165lb, with flashy game… takes a beating, leads the league in scoring several times… he carried a team to the finals, and even stole a game from Shaq and Kobe… AI inspired millions of people world wide… and did it his way

  • Felix

he was my hero, until Richard Jefferson dumped his girl because he knew he was going to be pullin boatloads of groupies in Texas… now RJ is my hero… he can play too… like RJ to Spurs, good move.

  • http://www.broy7.com nate the great

the reason why a.i. cant go to a good team to win a championship because he wont sacrifice anything for his team/teammates.
he wants to be the man who scores, but not a role player.
ray, kg, and paul all knew they were at the end of their so called lines. and they sacrificed and became a team, and knew their roles.
a.i… sadly thinks he is still were he was 5 to 10 years ago. and he is not.
i still love the dood, but he needs to realize he is not the answer, just a question now.

  • tha_rev25

my man is tuff, but we’ll never see the day where one single player will win a championship… u gotta have some players around you

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Spaceship Jay: you realize me, Eboy, Jukai, and a handful of others run this site figurativly but not literally.

  • http://slamonline.com s.e.a.n

Someone please tell me A.I is going to end up in Philly. :’( PLEASE.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Spaceship Jay

Yes, I am fully aware of this BET.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Blinguo

Remember when he played all 82 for Denver, the 2nd most minutes he’s ever played, was a veteran role player leader on the most talented team he’s ever been on (sorry, Detroit was not the most talented as people keep saying, Iverson said it himself it was Denver), shot 46% from the field (2nd best of his career), and worked flawlessly as a 1-2 punch with Melo (but Melo and Karl both didn’t believe in defense yet), nobody does. Denver gave up way too fast on Iverson. So its all Kiki’s fault.
    -
Iverson needs to sign with the Bobcats and just chill with Mike in the bleachers/sidelines while the team practices, or even bring out the competitive Mike to get AI to go hard during those few hour team on court meetings. Iverson would def. like those practices.

LB might not call it playing the right way, but NBA players would probably still pay to see these guys go at it in practice today. No un-retirement though Mike.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Blinguo

Or if Kiki Vw was already out by then, sorry. Karl and the front office get both blame. Billups is nice, but they didn’t get much further (or over the hump) in the stacked West and won’t when Melo still looks up to Kobe – helping him up during games and such instead of making war during and love after with his BFF team USA friend.

  • http://www.nba.com Pardeep

PLEASE GO BACK HOME TO PHILLY OR JUST SIGN WITH THE BOBCATS.

  • ab_40

he makes your team suck. the clips finaly have created a sort of a team for next season. now they need a new coach and let mike dunleavy sr be the GM. Iverson has played himself out of the leauge especialy last year.

I’v never had to sit on a bench if curry was a man he would’ve let him sit and told him what he wanted from him straight up. now he just pissed of his whole team the team chemistry which wasn’t good in the first place and they let the artist formerly known as the answer screw up their ofense
