The Return of Lamar

L.O. gets his wish, returns to the Lakers.

by Ryne Nelson

Miami has a lot of things going for it: no state taxes, plenty of beaches and nightlife, and an all-NBA teammate in Dwyane Wade. But Lamar Odom is happy with his home in Hollywood.

According to an ESPN.com report, Odom’s will play for the Lakers for at least three more seasons:

Free agent forward Lamar Odom will return to the Los Angeles Lakers, an NBA source said Thursday.

One source close to the process told ESPN.com that Odom will come away with a guaranteed $27 million from the new contract, matching the original value of the three-year, $27 million deal Lakers owner Jerry Buss pulled off the table earlier this month. It’s believed that the structure of the new deal calls for Odom to earn $25 million over the first three seasons, with the Lakers owing him $2 million in the fourth year if they elect not to pick up their team option.

Odom was familiar with the Heat organization after playing 80 regular season games and two strong playoff series in ’03-04. But the prospects of going after consecutive championships and getting the opportunity to play alongside his buddy from Queens, Ron Artest, were more than enough incentive to remain in L.A.

Can we get this season started already! I agree with Z, Lakers are the favorite but it is not a fore-gone conclusion that they will win it all. I hope Lamar can win this year’s 6th man of the year award…he had a chance last year until Andrew got hurt.

T-minus 4 months until we hear “lamar is so inconsistent whytf did we re-sign him?!?”

+ Kobe is finally having a summer off to rest up. They are going to be tooooough this year.

  • tavoris

They can afford to NOT play Walton at all now (which is a bonus)

  • GAMBLER

will they just make a special thumb ring for kobe? or will he just wear it on a chain?

Good move. Now my lakers are a lock to win it all for the next two years! Godd job LA!

this translates to ring number 5 for Kobe. Pretty much surpassing shaq and timmy among the all time greats. bron will remain the boy without a ring. he will be either somebody’s backup in 2010 or they will try to fool another washedup great to teamup with “the chosen one”

Lakers have nothing guaranteed for them. Boston, Spurs and Orlando got something to say about next year’s chip. And call me crazy but I think Dallas wil knock out the Lakers from the playoffs, Spurs will knock Boston in the Finals.

lets give everyone responsible for this re-signing lots of credit. good work Mitch Kupchak and the lakers org, and LO’s
