Kevin Durant vs. Gilbert Arenas Showdown?

Gilbert was nice last Friday, but can he do it against the dude who owns the Goodman League?

I wish someone would do a live webcam of this.

If Gil is healthy, he would run circles around Durant.

Yeah, I wish the same *hint hint nudge nudge*

  • ab_40

    and get blocked

it’s not even guarenteed they’ll play yet

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

    Short Answer? No.

  • http://sdjfklf.com Jukai

Arenas averaged 28 and 29.3 points a game… If he is back full health, I’m really not sure who I’d put money on

KD’s height plus ball handling is what makes him so special. But Gil is straight fire (when healthy)

  • tavoris

Durant isn’t as fast, quick, or strong as Gil, but he’s a MUCH better (if less streaky) shooter, taller, and YOUNGER. I love Arenas’ game, but Durant is not only the future, he is the NOW.

tavoris summed up everything for me..

  • 6marjon

    hopefully someone will ustream it

KD is quickly becoming one of my fav players in the league. I don’t put anything past him.

  • tavoris

thanks BETCATS. With his game, (and how quickly he’s become a dominant scorer), I think 27K career points a likelihood, with 30K a real possibility.

  • JL

Arenas seems like one of the few NBA guys who won’t back down from a challenge (while not being paid). Do it!!!

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

wow, guys are quick to dismiss gil. gil has done things in the l that kd hasnt sniffed yet. buzzer beaters in the playoffs and all that. we’re talking about a 30 ppg dude (if healthy). it’s not like kd can stop anyone from scoring.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

let’s put it this way, kd dropped 60 at barry farms and cats were losing their minds. gil dropped 60 as well… against LA.

  • tavoris

Z, Gil is as dangerous as scorer as anyone in the L, I’d implore you to find one season in Gil’s ENTIRE career that was as efficient as Durant’s was this past season. Also, think about Durant only being 20 years old. Barring injury, he’ll easily be a top 20 ALL-TIME scorer by the time he’s 30. Defense will come (as he’s by all accounts a hard worker)

  • vic21

    Go KD!

  • bakers’ dozen

Arenas will go double 0 on Durant’s lanky bootie.

  • Matt Mints

i got gil all the way. in about 2-3 years? i think it will be more even but i think kd would take it. right now? gil.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

tavoris, 29 ppg on 45% fg would be pretty efficient for a guard, no? what i’m saying is that kd hasn’t played yet in a game that actually matters in the nba. i’ve seen gil drop buzzer beaters and not even get excited (he was EXPECTING it to go in), I’ve seen him drop 30 footers in crunch time in a playoff game. now, durant might be a killer, but i’ll just wait until he plays meaningful games. the stats are empty right now (even though it’s not his fault).

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Yeah, but we’re talking about right now, tavoris. Kevin Durant has a higher ceiling to reach (ie best basketball player on the planet), but right now Gil (assuming a healthy Gil) is the man. You don’t average 29 ppg and hit 25 footers at the buzzer without getting the respect of a sophomore.

  • http://slamonline.com The underrated one

I think Durant takes it, but in a close game tho. Gil has the experience and shooting, but KD can shoot too, and kd has the whole 8-9 inches on gil sooo..

  • http://fdjsklf.com Jukai

The Underrated One: Durant is 7’1?!?!?!

  • Dagger

tavoris: if scoring efficiency is all that defines a great scorer than Nash is the best scorer in the league . . . .

  • campbellsoup

Gil is probably stronger and faster and definatly more expereinced but there aint no gettin over durant. I take durant in this one, although gil is a master and i have to give him props.

  • onions baby onions

    KD = natural born scorer
    Gil = natural born scorer
they can both put up 60 point nights, but its whichever one of them that stands out at the other aspects of the game that will come out on top when they play each other

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

Durantula would probably beat Gil to the hoop yo
Cmon cmon to da hoop yo

Whats the debate?? Nash IS the best scorer in the league.

  • http://manyoonited Z

you can’t really get more efficient than shaq even with all the missed ft’s. hell, nash is not even the most efficient guy on his team with stat shooting close to 60 from the field and a nice 80 at the line.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

i do think that he’s the best shooter in the league. not even close. better tha ray ray even.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Kevin has the height advantage. That will prove crucial. But Arenas has the strength and he can probably get by Durant, what with Durant weighing like 80 pounds. I want to see this, somebody youtube this joint!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ Z: Steve Nash is not the best shooter in the league. Second best I think.

  • http://slamonline.com Niyagirlfresh

Kevin Durant is younger and slimmer he might not have Gil in the strength area but Kevin Durant is a beast and his jumpshot is sick. If he builds a little more muscle and focused on speed then forget the rest the kid will do damage. No detriment to Areans because I love him too but don’t sleep on Kevin.

  • tavoris

Dagger, you are missing the point. Shooter adn scorer are different things. Durant gets his shots easier (because of his height primarily). Additionally, he shoots a higher percentage while facing MORE defensive attention than Gil. Arenas ver rarely faces a double team (since he’s always had two other 20pt scorers on his team since he’s been in the league). Durant doesn’t have that luxury.

  • http://sdjfklf.com Jukai

Tavoris: Entirely untrue. By a long shot. Gil gets double teamed constantly. Jamison was an afterthought and Caron really only came into his own when Arenas was out.
And if you say Larry Hughes, Imma slap you.

  • tavoris

Jukai, what other premier scorer in the L ONLY get’s double teamed? Jamison may be an afterthought to you, but he’s a career 20ppg scorer. And in case you missed it, Caron has been a player (and a All-Star shoe in if it wasn’t for Lebron and Pierce) ever since his rookie year. He’s just getting the media’s attention, but he’s had player’s respect for years.

  • tavoris

Z, that 29ppg on 45% shooting was THREE YEARS AGO. And keep in mind that he also averaged almost 4 TURNOVERS and 4 FOULS a game. I love Gil, but that was a gambling, sloppy mess of a season marked by amazing scoring performances. And one can’t put much stock in playoff performances when he’s only played in twenty playoff games.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

tavoris, you can question a lot of things about gil’s game but let’s not pretend that the man doesn’t have ice in his veins. he’s a stone cold scorer that never gets rattled (unless lbj is talking to him between free throws).

  • tavoris

I never said that Z…I’ve said on more than one occasion that I love Gil’s game…when he’s hot, he might be the most dangerous scorer in the game (because he really has almost unlimited range, quickness AND speed, and a pretty good handle to go with his lack of a conscious)

  • Ali

Gilbert if healthy would beat anybody in the league.

  • Double J

Kobe Bryant >>>>> Scorer Than KD & Gil

  • tavoris

Double J…I’d challenge that-seriously-in five years. Kobe as a player is definitely better than both, and probably still will be, but Durant as a SCORER is already more advanced than Kobe was at the same stage.

  • alex

cmon KD has dropped buzzer beaters albeit not in the playoffs but he’s shown that he is an assassin in his own right. Also, while hes probalby not as strong as Arenas yet, I believe reports are that he’s put on more than 5 pounds of muscle atleast this summer so his strength is coming.

  • D-$

eyo anyone know how to get tickets to see Gil play at barry farms, or KD i just wanna see dem play

  • Reem

@D-$ — no tickets necessary. Its free admission.

BTW – KD dropped 55 last night in a playoff victory. He will avg 28 pts/gm this year in the NBA.
