Stephen Jackson’s New Home: Dallas?

by Marcel Mutoni

Cap’n Jack no longer wants to man the sinking ship in Golden State — he let the world know this past Friday. Stephen says he wants to play for a Playoff team, so naturally he lists the Knicks as one of his preferred destinations. Huh?.

Regardless, now is time for the always-fun speculation about the color of Jackson’s next uniform.

According to DallasBasketball.com, the Mavs could soon be hearing from Don Nelson and the Warriors about Stephen Jackson’s availability:

On Friday morning, I spoke with a source very close to the Golden State front office who tells me that Nellie is leading serious in-house conversation about proposing a trade to the Mavs that would move a rotation-caliber player from Golden State to Dallas in exchange for cap relief.

I, for one, hope this is true, simply to see Don Nelson and Mark Cuban back at the negotiating table after everything that’s gone down between them.

Nellie, who apparently loves Stephen Curry, is rumored to also want Monta Ellis shipped out of town alongside Jackson.

Of course, Nelson and the Warriors will somehow have to convince a team owner to take on $80 mil in salaries for both guys. That may be a tad steep for even someone like Mark Cuban these days.

Would LOVE to see Capn Jack go somewhere (not named the Knicks) for a chance to win a championship. Although I do think he would be a good fit in the Mike D’Antoni scheme of things.

sometimes I complain about how hard it is to be a Nets…. but then I realize it might be even harder to be a Warriors fan. As long as Don Nelson is there, the Warriors won’t get any better in the near future.

  • http://theghostofroyhobbs.blogspot.com Mo Charlo

I’ll be the first one in the metroplex with a Jax jersey if this happens. But I’ll opt for his Spurs one.

  • rebel

    @Gerard,maybe I’m a Warriors fan

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

Wait a second, Marcel just said that it’s rumored that Don Nelson wants Monta shipped off too? WTF?

  • http://twitter.com/manueii Manuel

Whoa why rip on Don Nelson, this is the same guy who spotted out All that talent, the Mavs & Warriors have or had. He might not be a great coach, but he’s got a a scary eye for talent.

  • a_whiteman

i would love to see monta get sent somewhere else, too good of a player to rot away under nellie

  • Christian D. Maddox

I as a Mavericks fan, would love to see Ellis and Jackson in Mavericks jerseys, more so Ellis. If the Mavericks hadn’t signed Marion, a Jackson trade would make more sense, but if he’d willing come off the bench then it’s a match made in heaven, because he brings in versatility and toughness. I wouldn’t even mind them giving up Howard to get Ellis. I might actually die from joy if Dallas could get rid of Stackhouse and Dampier in the same off-season AND bring back a young, athletic, talented, scoring guard,(seems like we had of those a few seasons ago, Devin..something). Again as a Mavericks fan, I won’t get my hopes up because the Mavericks are rumored in EVERY rumor involving a good player, but if they did land Ellis I might actually take this paper bag off my face when I watch games…at home…in North Carolina…in shame.

    ship em to miami!

  • http://claydefayette@yahoo.com CDef28

The Heat would be a perfect fit.

  • http://claydefayette@yahoo.com CDef28

The Hornets would be another team that could work if they want to take on the salary.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

2 main arguments that prove that it does not matter how bad you are at your job or the number of times you screw up as long as you’re a good quote and always give interviews, journos will never rip you: #1 – Don Nelson. #2 – George Karl. These guys have been messing everything for decades. Their teams ALWAYS underachieve.

  • LeoneL

I don’t know but I don’t buy that whole wanting to win a chip argument. He had one with San Antonio and he wants to play for the Knicks. Something must be really wrong for him, the face of the franchise, to demand a trade.

Why not ask the head office to make some moves to make your team better? You got Monta already. Andris is no slouch either. Randolph is an All-Star waiting to happen. Then there’s Morrow. And while still untested, Curry looks like another good piece for the team. When a ship’s sinking, the captain’s always the last one off it (or so I assume). So please stay Jax and instead help oust Don Nelson. LOL

And yeah, help your buddy Al Harrington with Protege.

  • Clockwork

Yeah, Jax in Dallas, so he can terrorize Dirk every day in practice just like in the playoffs!!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Christian D. Maddox: AMEN! Way to speak my mind, man.

  • http://www.shoenut.blogspot.com ShoeNut

Despite his past, S Jack should play for a contender. He is multi-skilled in the game and can help the Mavs and put some pressure off of Dirk.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Stack Jax would have been great in Cleveland.
Perfect complement to Lebron cause Jackson has NO problem taking big shots and roughing people up. Ah well.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Z
You are absolutely right about Nelson and Karl.
I’ve been trying to hip cats to the game for a minute and nobody listens.

  • http://www.twitter.com/johnblackk Johnblackk

    FIRE DON NELSON!

  • http://www.infamousklav.blogspot.com Klav

top 5 most entertaining teams to watch, also top 5 most disappointing to watch given their # of wins with the level of talent they possess. so i agree with everybody else, FIRE DON NELSON.

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

Jax, why’d you lobby for a contract and then after try to get traded? C’mon doggie….. You should’ve been bounced.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Nelson could potentially screw up Anthony Randolph’s development. For that reason alone, as a fan of the game, I demand that he be fired immediatly. He can’t rob us of one of the most intriguing talent of the past decade. Randolph is just mind boggling: there’s no floor or ceiling to his career. Anything from Jonathan Bender/Macej Lampe to a Kevin Durant/KG illegitimate child would not surprise me.

  • http://twitter.com/JoshElam JE

Dallas would be more loaded than LA if this happened. Please happen.

  • JB

Monta rots under Nellie? Are you serious? Clearly you don’t follow the Warriors at all (ok fine, at this point I don’t blame you either) but Nellie is the REASON Monta broke out and got paid.

If that retard didn’t get on a moped, then lie about it…the relationship wouldn’t be filled with “rumors” and trade scenarios. Someday Monta will need to grow up and take his medicine. The Warriors didn’t exactly help the situation any by their stance. That however was Bobby Rowells doing, you know, the same guy who negotiated over Mullin to up Sjax for no apparent reason.

    Sigh.

Don Nelson isn’t the biggest problem the Warriors have. Plus technically, he’s in a contract year, so he’ll probably “try” a bit more this year. Or he would have prior to this Sjax problem. Management and ownership is and will be the biggest problem and hurdle for the W’s until they sell. Please God, send Larry Ellison a batman-esque signal.

@LeoneL: SJax would need to have competent management and coaching to go to them and ask them to bring peices in to compete. Unfortunately, SJax is also NOT a franchise player…and he probably realizes this. He want to be able to go to a contender and play hi (significant) role. Dude wants to leave the burning shell of what was once an exciting team. I dont blame him.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

The Bobcats could use either one..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Holly MacKenzie

Oh my word. I don’t even know how to take this. The Raps have made eight-hundred and forty-seven moves this summer but I’d give a whole lot of everything to get Jax in a raps uni. I’d like him to go back to Texas. I’d like him to go to wherever he wants to be. A happy Stack Jack is a happier world.

  • http://digitalthread.com AlbertBarr

Monta on the Bobcats would be tight.

  • http://drexlerwasabeast.com nbk

Monta + Felton + Augustin + Raja Bell + Larry Brown = Frustration.

  • Sarah

I hope he goes somewhere that will give him a chance to compete, but I don’t know if I’d want him to play for Dallas.

In other news, Steve Nash is not exactly Lon Chaney, man of a thousand faces.

Dallas has such a good lineup already. With 1 of these guys they have a better 8 man rotation than anyone in the league. Kidd, Jackson, Marion, Dirk, Erica, JET, Howard, JJ Barea… I think it’s better than the Lakers rotation which was by far the deepest in the league last year

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

    Allenp:
Yup, SJax would have been a perfect fit with Cleveland.

  • Jer Boi

always thought DIME was a rival to SLAM? but since you linked to their article i guess not

  • ave. joe

    BRING THEM TORONTO FOR BOSH/CALDERON!!!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Monta Ellis to the Rockets would be SWEET.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

If Dallas could pull this off, I may actually begin to like them.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Dirk and Jax would be pretty interesting and highly amusing I bet.

  • http://drexlerwasabeast.com nbk

Kidd, Howard, Marion, Dirk, Terry, Damp, Barrea,
from a legality perspective i don’t see how dallas can take on jacksons 7+million. they would have to give up dampier for contracts to match up, but then they would be center less. i don’t see how this could happen

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LeBron and Jax to the Knicks in 2010. Plus Sessions this year and either Wade or Amare in 2010. Yay!

  • http://digitalthread.com AlbertBarr

Are you serious, Teddy? Or insane?

  • davidR

the joys of being a warrior fan

  • davidR

off-season moves: trade bellineli for devean george, trade jamal crawford for speedy claxton and acie law, draft stephen curry, sign mikki moore. why pay for $60 upper-deck tickets to watch the games at the oracle?

  • Shem

This is interesting question though, why is dallas looking for a 3rd great sf and they already have kidd and barea i m curious why they re not looking for a center

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Blinguo

Not just that david, why pay season ticket prices when a debacle happens with one game prices on special 1/2 the price of your season ticket holder neighbor.
    -
Jax is still a Warrior until he’s not. But here comes the hate wave of “turnovers, missed shots, etc” blah blah with internet writing Warriors fans and some crazy enough to ask for Dampier back; watch them ask for Dampier back. Sell the team! And new owner be wary of Don Nelson trying to control everything!

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

So he could realistically get a SECOND ring?!
    Thats good.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Good question, Shem. Maybe you should ask the Warriors staff, oh wait, they don’t know either…

  • http://www.slamonline.com JL

cuz you don’t trade a good center for an aging SF/SG.

  • LeoneL

And here I am thinking it sucks to be a Knicks fan.

  • davidR

yea bling, i didnt understand all the hate pietrus was getting on the internet before he got shipped to the magic. i know the warriors have a bunch of new fans because of the we believe run, but 80% of them are ignorant as hell. i’m curious to see what they all think of pietrus after his playoff run, and why shipping jax would be a good idea

  • davidR

the other thing is, while stephen might still be a warrior during the season, how motivated will he be to play hard for the team? and will nelson give him the same treatment he gave to jamal and harrington until he’s gone?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Blinguo

Baron too in the end, on the outs, in a huge game that could have equaled playoffs. Granted those two mentioned didn’t openly ask for trades before getting Nelson hate, did they? But still Jax is walking a very thin line for madman Nellie rage.
And half dogging it would be worse than that open the season w/ 7 game suspension by far. As could be making his trade value rise by doing too much, even in this offense.
    -
Pietrus wanted to be and knew “We’re the Warriors future!” talking after game interviews, about him and Biedrins. Now he’s Orlando’s future and was huge for them to get to the Finals and got praise for defense, while not a stopper, thought by some to better than anybody else, ever even, on LeBron.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

JL – Jax is 30 btw.
Why get rid of Monta? Urgh.
