The Boston Front Office is Very Confident

This one critically important voice in the Celtics’ office says they’re the team to beat: “Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck didn’t want to talk about the collecting bargaining negotiations he participated in Tuesday. But he had no problem anointing the Celtics as the “hands down” favorites in the Eastern Conference next season. ‘I think we should be the favorites in the conference, hands down,’ Grousbeck said after emerging from a 3 1-2 hour bargaining session between the NBA owners and the players’ union. ‘And we’re going to start proving that Oct. 27.’”

everything is not news. what is he supposed to say?

Paper champs ’10. The NY Mets were the paper champs of the NL East the past 2 seasons. Ask them what being paper champs are worth.

  • Toon

I still think the Cavaliers is the team to beat in the east

  • SWIFTboy

^^Probably close to the market price of pulp, I would guess.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

It’s pretty fair to say that if the Celts were healthy this past season they may have whipped the Lakers asses again. To say they are paper champions is ridiculous. And they should be just as favorites as the Magic and Cavs.

I am with you 100% Eboy

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

It’s pretty fair to say that the Lakers beat them when they were heathly during the season and it was quite evident that Andrew Bynum made quite a difference on the defensive side against them. But keep slinging sh!t. Eventually something has to stick.

Last time Celtics won the championship, they had to play 7 games in each of the first 3 rounds just to get to the Finals. Since then they lost Posey. Didn’t sign one adequate replacement. And their best players (KG and PP) are 2 years older. On top of that they almost traded Ray Allen and Rondo this offseason. That’s not going to help team chemistry. So I must say Celtics is far from a team to beat. Not saying that they can’t do it. It’s just that looking at all the facts, it’s looking pretty bleak for their chances at the championship.

  • Fat Lever

Really, Eboy, calling them paper champs is ridiclous? What about them screams that they are the team to beat? I’m neither a fan of the Celts or Lakers, but the Lakers did nothing to get worse, and the Celts added another perimeter oriented player who only shoots 3 and give 100% effort < than 100% of the time. As much as I love and respect Ray Allen’s game, I think this is the year where he really slows down. KG is coming off of MAJOR knee surgery, and Pierce is yet another year older. I haven’t even mentioned the fact that San Antonio improved their team significantly, and Denver is still an excellent team in a very good conference. The Celts can say whatever they want, but to me, their window for a title closed last year, and is sealed this year with KG’s injury.

1- How many games it takes you to win it all is irrevelant. May I remind the Lakers fans that they needed 7 to be the Rockets sans T-Mac and Yao?
2- Andrew Bynum played no role whatsoever in last year’s title. He was a decoy starter and didn’t swing any games the Lakers way.
3- This is 2009 Ron Artest that can’t keep up with quick wings, runs around hotels and arenas in his underpants, shoots 40% from the field and need his touches to hustle and play D. He’s not an upgrade over Ariza.
4- If KG is back to beasting again, the Celts are in there with Cleveland. If not, well let’s just say that the Sheed that we saw in the playoffs is not getting it done.
5- Lakers should worry about San An, not Boston.

    It’s August 5th. Who gives a f*ck?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Funny, I remember Garnett missing a huge portion of the season because of his injury. Losing him, like losing Kobe or Lebron or D-Wade is losing your best player. If you don’t think that a loss THAT huge isn’t a reason for a teams struggles, you obviously pose as a fan of the game and have no concrete knowledge to make your thoughts on the subject relevant. And anyone that throws out the name Andrew Bynum as some type of feared force in the lig is a homerish fool. Dude is about as terrifying as a the swine flu. Sorry B and you know I love you.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

At it’s peak, the Swine Flu was pretty terrifying.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

So is Quizno………for about 8 games a year.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Seriously though, at full strength, Boston is still a very viable threat in the East. I think KG is coming back with a vengeance this season.

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

The funny thing is that I didn’t say that Andrew was some type of feared force. I said he was a difference maker against the Celtics both times that the Lakers beat them last year. Kevin Garnett was healthy in both of those games as well. Rondo would sometimes get by his man and then do a complete 180 and just dribble back to the top of the key when Bynum rotated. Rewatch the Christmas day game if you need a refresher. He doesn’t even consider going to the rim so it also cuts down on the kick outs that killed the Lakers in the 08 Finals as well. Bynum wasn’t even the Lakers third best player, but he filled a very important role, nonetheless. Ask Dwight Coward.

  • Rasheedionics

The bottom line is the Celtics is not the best team in the East. Who except die hard Celtics fans would disagree with that?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Bradley’s funny. The team win’s a title and now they’re on some legendary sh*t that makes every other great player in the league some lesser known force and they get denegrating nicknames too? Please B, stick to what you know…..defending Kobe and funny quips in NOYZ. You are solid at both of those.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

And no, I’m not solid at anything, so you can’t use reverse psychology on me!!!!!!

  • http://djsklfl.com Jukai

Brad’s right, but one slight correction: Gasol shut down Dwight Howard. I know we can’t openly admit that, because Gasol is white and soft and European, but if we can be honest for a second, let’s not give any of that credit to Bynum.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Wait wait, I’m sorry Z? I don’t think I read that right. Artest is not an upgrade over Ariza? Are you joking? Ron Artest is still playing at a high level, can create his own shot, AND he can still play tremendous D. Him and Shane Battier are still the two best non-center defenders in the league.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I don’t dislike the guy, but in the playoffs Andrew Bynum was only good for 6 fouls a game. His sized helped a lot on defense, until he found himself in foul trouble. Which was a lot. So no, he didn’t help that much on defense.

  • http://yahoo.com Logues

bynum is soft, and i agree with Eboy, celtics woulda whipped the lakers asses this year if powe and kg were healthy. and brad, who really cares if they beat them during the regular season? playoffs are much different, and kg is gonna be on a mission this season

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Eboy: You do realize that only the LA media or front office can crown their team before any games are played, right?

  • B-more Mike

The 2009 NBA champion LA LAKERS. Artest might can’t keep up with quick wings but Kobe can, whatever angle you come from there’s answers. Tougher playoffs means tougher team, glad they went 7 with Houston the way they were playing how many other teams wouldve just walked over them. Who knows what’s going too happen next season, get ready for football. Go Ravens!!!

  • B-more Mike

Artest is only 29?! The way these jerks talk I thought he was 40!

  • BostonBaller

The Lakers beat us 2 times last season but that’s over and done with. KG was healthy for both games (we think) and Rondo did play timid…BUT just as much as people say PP, Ray, Wallace & KG are older Rondo has matured big time as did G. Davis and others. To heck with Paper rock scissors, let’s play real ball and get it on. The season kicks off on a great note!!!

I love how Eboy will talk himself down as if that can undermine and invalidate anyone elses assessment of him. All that does is shows the haters they are right!!? Stand up for your beliefs. If you think Brad Long is completely off track, don’t run from those comments!?
Who is going to win the most games out of the East this year?

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Sure it’s August…6th here today in Australia – BUT now is the time to bring these points up! Back your team NOW don’t wait for the SUNS to make an amazing turn around and then think you can jump on board?!?!
    Nash – 3rd MVP?

  • http://slamonline.com MiguelKG5

Lets face it, the Celts are getting old but Rondo and Glen have stepped up their game in the playoffs not forgetting Eddie House who delivered huge 3′s, KG is almost 100 percent ,Paul is gonna go hard this season, Ray will deliver like he always does and with Sheed coming off the bench with Glen the celts are a tough team this season

Reminder: KG will come on a mission and will stop at nothing to get to the finals

  • http://slamonline.com MiguelKG5

And by the way Rajon always when he attacks the basket he turns the corner to find the open man, its one of his weapons.

  • http://slamonline Negetivekreep

Ok Z, So let me get this straight, the world champion Lakers weren’t that good last year. Andrew Bynum had ZERO effect as a player. Ron Artest, is not as good as Trevor Ariza? Oh, and the 08′ world champ celtics , (MIGHT) be on an even playing ground with your cavs If KG is healthy?

that is the worst, most pathetic excuse for an arguement iv’e read by a
(regular commentor) such as yourself, on this site.
Damn son, take’n them ‘bron goggles’ off every once n a while.

  • Al

I love Boston, but they have to add some major youth and starpower if they want to match up to the Lakers. Nobody in the league can match Bryant, Odum, Gasol, Bynum, Artest and Fisher with Jackson at the helm. I hate the Lakers but at this rate, they have the next 3 championships in the bag.

I predict that Boston will ship Rondo and somehow aquire Rip Hamilton and an adequate PG by mid-season.
