Tim James: From Hoops to War

The Miami Heat’s former first round pick is now stationed in Iraq, fighting for his country: “A former NBA player who often wondered about his true calling, Tim James is now a U.S. Army soldier, a transformation that even many of the people closest to him never saw coming. ‘I got my degree, lived the life I was able, have my freedom and became a professional athlete,’ James said last week from Iraq. “I’m the example of the American dream.”‘

Being a veteran myself, I understand the patriotism and pride the comes from serving your country. But, damn, you left professional basketball dude! And on top of that, you already have a degree and didn’t even get put into the officer ranks. There’s nothing remotely glamorous about being a peon in the service, I promise you that.
