A.I Wants to Bring a Title to Memphis

Aim for the moon, kids. That’s what Allen Iverson does. Or at least, that’s what he says: “I expect to win and that’s gonna be the best part of this ending of my career, hopefully, and this will be the end right here in Memphis, that I can come in and contribute and turn this team in to a winner.  And, I’m not just saying playoffs, and I know people will be thinking I’m crazy for feeling like I can win a championship with this team, but in my heart, I do.  If I didn’t feel that way, I would be cheating them, I’d be cheating the fans, I’d be cheating the organization.”

Doesn’t every player want to bring a title to their organization? Except Larry Hughes.

  • oddball

i love iverson, and im tired of people shitting on him. he has more heart than half the league combined…and i dunno about a title but at least hes shooting for the stars….

  • Jarrod

    good luck with that

  • Bear

Yeah. You wanted to bring one to Denver too, and look what happened!!

If you’re not playing to win, what are you playing for? / Spot-on, B. Long! I couldn’t believe what this guy was saying when he got out of Cleveland. He basically said that he was expecting 20 shots a game when he signed so he was happy to go to a lesser team and put shots up. Then it didn’t happen for him in the Chi and he said again that he was happy to go to NYK to hunt shots.

Actually, he should aim for the stars, since if he misses he might fall on the moon. (Since the nearest star (Alpha Centauri) is lightyears away from us and the moon is “only” a few thousand miles.)

“This is what’s great about sports. This is what the greatest thing about sports is. You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game. You don’t play it to just play it. That’s the great thing about sports: you play to win, and I don’t care if you don’t have any wins. You go play to win.”

  • Captain Jean Luc-Picard

i’ve been to memphis, to some wack amusement park. not sure if you count that, mo.

  • D12FSU

if they knew how to pass in memphis, theyd be a top 5 offensive team in the L…but sill a bottom 5 defensive team

  • D12FSU

this is seriously gonna be their offense…AI, OJ, Gay, and ZBO are gonna take turns isolating on their man…while Gasol stands in the paint with his hands up looking confused, while Conley sits on the bench sulking

  • knock

Lmao. I remember Iverson saying “Glad to finally be on a winner” – This was before joining Detroit and making them a .500 team. So Iverson wanted to bring a title to Philli, Denver, Detroit, and Memphis now. Why does’t he do something outta the ordinary, and tell the truth.

  • trick..

We talkin’ about championships, maaan?? Damn, he talkin’ ’bout championships.. In MEMPHIS!!?!??

I have to believe in this guy.

“people will be thinking I’m crazy for feeling like I can win a championship with this team, but in my heart, I do.”shouldnt it be “we can?”

  • Brian

He left out the part where he says he’s willing to do whatever it takes for the team to win.

  • Double J

man i love this guy! if this does happen (about 0.0000000000000000053%) imma drop kobe/jordan and say AI is the best ever

  • RickyRude

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

i cringed when i heard his interview on the follower yesterday, because i like A.I. and i don’t think he’s gone off the edge to say something like that. so why AI why?

  • http://sevendeu2u.wordpress.com/ Seven deuce

“sigh”, why give people ammunition man? why?! just say something vague like, “I believe this team has the potential to be very competitive and I’d like to instill the young guys with a sense of urgency.” Now he sounds like Patrick Ewing – maybe it’s a Georgetown thing.

Come to think of it, besides ZO, what Georgetown product won a ring in the league?

  • Josh D

A.I Wants to Bring a Title to Memphis, the title of the worst team in the NBA

  • http://slamonline.com Jacob J

    In AI’s dreams!

  • UnRel

i’ve said it once.. and i’ll say it again.. this team will be the best team to have fun with on 2k10..

  • BallerUnknown

Allen Iverson is a very talented basketball player, but he just made some stupid mistakes. Hopefully, he can push off the Grizzlies this year and make them at least go to the playoffs, and if he accomplishes that feat, then there will be many more teams that will want him.

  • Chris Ujma

    I’ve been to Memphis.

Though even if AI brings the chip, he’ll never be bigger than Elvis. To do that he’d need to win, oh, 60 Larry O’Briens? :-p

  • COLT6

No A.I. you can’t win one in Memphis. Pack your bags to Boston. Even yet, get your act back to Denver because Chaunz can defend bigger 2′s and you can play off-ball on offense.

  • frank

he went to a really good team and made them bad. maybe if he goes to a really bad team they will become good? probably not…but theres always a chance

  • Charles Kirk

It’s one thing to diss the team. But, don’t diss my hometown of Memphis. Memphis people ain’t never did s*** to y’all but, y’all constantly tryin to talk bad about us.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ jose: Why would you try to emphasize that part of the quote, without mentioning the part about: “If I didn’t feel that way, I would be cheating them, I’d be cheating the fans, I’d be cheating the organization.” ?

  • DALLAS STOKES

    Practice?

  • black pinoy

hey why not// they just need a very very very good coach and a unselfish attitude// but seeing a.i. and randolph (who should just do boxing and fight pacquiao) together its really hard to see how its gonna work // but running motion plays for a.i. and mayo would sure be fun see .. uhm if they trade garnet for randolph then im sure theyd get to the playoffs (probably).. then need someone to jell them together ..like what garnet is doing with boston ( boston doesnt have very selfish players to start with by the way)

  • rikson

“If I didn’t feel that way, I would be cheating them, I’d be cheating the fans, I’d be cheating the organization” -> NO…. AI you wouldnt!
