Allen Iverson to Memphis!
Wow. Can I just leave it at that? Allen Iverson, the face of NBA for nearly a decade, maybe even the face of basketball as a sport, is now saying he’s ready to sign with Memphis. And we’re not talking about the college program. There’s an actual NBA team there, or so Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace continues to tell us.
The word comes from Iverson’s Twitter account, which broke the news about 33 minutes ago. Ivey started the initial shockwave with this:
God Chose Memphis as the place that I will continue my career. I met with Mr. Heinsley, Chris Wallace and my next head coach Lionel Hollins.
And there’s this tweet:
I feel that they are committed to developing a winner and I know that I can help them to accomplish that. I feel that I can trust them.
Iverson has been talking about donning a Memphis jersey next season for a while. He said that he was close to signing with the Grizz over two weeks ago, and many reports have since confirmed the mutual interest. Given all that history, there’s no reason to distrust the tweets on this occasion.
How Iverson will fit in the mix with OJ Mayo and Rudy Gay is anyone’s guess. We just know we’ll be watching a lot more Memphis games to find out!

thats why AI + CWebb in Philly was a fail.
”Obviously I think he’d be a crowd pleaser in Memphis.” Memphis owner Michael Heisley . Well, somebody goes out and tells everybody who is (reasonably) dubting your bball use to his team that,’…you know what, we just needed a clown, we are losing anyway’ and you are still signing with him???!!!! You do it anyway because: a) you are starving to death(Latrell..!!) b)you are only for the money(even if it’s nothing compared to what you’ve made up to now it doesn’t matter since you got no pride to be compensated for) c)you can’t read so you don’t take notice d)you can’t think so you do whatever your manager says or e)you are A.I. (with everything that means) . Lot’s of quizes for my little friends today. Beginning of September is school time anyway…!!!
So, on to Spain vs. Slovenia!
he is currently training w/eric snow.. if he is looking to score more he will train with a much more athletic/defender type player. they will make the playoffs fo sure!! watch out kobe!

IVERSON deserves to be on a much stronger team BUT who knows? The chemistry might be great between him, the young talent and Zach.
One thing is for sure, ALLEN IVERSON is hungry, determined, fearless and he gives 100% in EVERY GAME!!
@Wayno, what was wrong with prince?
BETCATS, that’s an interesting point. However, the difference (something Joe Dumars alluded to) is that AI chose to go to Memphis. In doing so, he’s accepting responsibility for whatever happens there (wayno, remember I said that!). He had no choice in the Detroit situation. Also, Conley is a fringe starter, and his future with Memphis has been in doubt for a while now. Mayo (unlike Hamilton’s defiance and Stuckey’s smugness) has publicly been pro-Iverson all summer). I don’t think chemistry will be an issue in the backcourt.
Who is Allen Iverson?

He was the face of basketball, or his face was on a basketball…some guy. you just missed him, he just left practi…

If not, Z-Boned.
BTW, to JE, I think the majority of the regular posters have taken self-inforced absences the last 2 weeks or so because of the top 50. It’s just not worth arguing over AGAIN, like we have the last 5 years.
And I’m happy with Allen, if he’s happy, then really, that’s all that should matter.
Let’s take a look.
AI put up 31.1 points a game with 42@ shooting (32% from the three) and had 3.8 rebounds, 4.6/3.34 assist/turnover ratio with 2.5 steals and nominal blocks. He logged an insane 42 minutes a game. Great stat line.
Shaq dropped 28.7 a game with an insane 57% shooting, grabbing 12.7 boards along with a 3.7/2.95 assist/turnover ratio (.9 assists less than Iverson), along with 2.8 blocks. He did this in less minutes than Iverson.
Duncan scored 25.3 points a game with 50% shooting, grabbing 12.7 boards, a 3.7/2.9 assist/turnover ratio and 2.5 blocks a game. He did this in less minutes than Iverson.
Those two come to mind when dealing with people better than Iverson, yes, even in 2001.
Would I admit Iverson is even top three?
No.
Let’s take a look at our forgotten friend T-Mac.
26.8 points on 45% shooting (with 35% from the three). 7.5 boards, as many assists but far less turnovers (4.6 assists to 2.57 turnovers), 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. All in less minutes.
So, if I had to, I’d say Iverson was the fourth best player in 2001.
He was obviously the most valuable, by a long shot. That’s why he won MVP.
But he wasn’t the best. That wasn’t even Iverson’s best year.

Now Bubba Chuck gets questions on liking Elvis music @ least during All Star weekend media days by SLAM’s representatives this year?
Nash may have been more valuable because of team success, but AI put up 31/8 with 2.4spg in 04/05.
In 05/06, Kobe had his 35.4/5.3/4.5. Hard to argue with that. But many forget AI put up 33/7.4/3.2 with 2spg shooting at the same fg% clip. It’s not a non-debatable matter.
Was he ever the clear-cut best player in the L? Probably not. But those who immediately write him off as never being part of the discussion of the game’s best — well, I get where you stand.

Stop “Co-signing” rikson then Wayno, because check his posts, more “thug thugging thuggery” than Mark Cuban’s.
