Blazers to Work Out Juwan Howard, ‘Stro

Portland is looking to sign a big man (or two), and they’re bringing in a couple of vets before making a decision: Veterans Juwan Howard and Stromile Swift will audition for the Trail Blazers next week as the team looks to sign a backup power forward before training camp opens at the end of the month … Both will scrimmage with current Blazers players over the next three weeks, and general manager Kevin Pritchard said he expects the team will sign one, or two, players before training camp starts on Sept. 28. The NBA allows teams to carry as many as 15 players; the Blazers have 12 players under contract, which doesn’t include rookie Jeff Pendergraph, who Pritchard said is ‘getting close’ to signing.”

    Hahahahahahahahahaha.

But on the real, this Blazers team is great. Stro might be a good addition. Howard, maybe not as much, but if they want a big body, great for them.

    They should invite D-Miles too.

blazers need a backup pf that isn’t soft. both are not that.

I’m pulling for my boy, Stro.

  • niQ Posted: Sep.7 at 2:20 pm
    Co-sign Brad.

  • JoeMaMa Posted: Sep.7 at 4:54 pm
Brad/niQ, Stromile has had some of the nicest and most underappreciated dunks the league has ever seen.
But…anything else besides that?? I love him but I just don’t see much there.

Another guy who had some pretty nice dunks, but was never really noticed- Darvin (?) Ham..

The Blazers are pulling a Celtics here. I think they’re aiming for a chip within the next 3 years. I also have a hunch that the Blazers are going to face the Rockets in the first round again.

Teddy: No… The Rockets won’t even make the post-season this year. No Center with Yao out. And David Anderson won’t exactly fill the void.

Juwan Howard can still play. He has more fundementals and also is a good signing just for teaching young players (he did that in the CHA last season). Stro is just dunks, nothing else. I think Howard is a better choice, Portland needs a vet for leadership purposes. That alone is a good enough reason.

I was expecting Stro’ to be resigned by PHX…

who did juwan howard teach in charlotte? okafur? sean may? boris diaw? melvin ely?

  • Cmac Posted: Sep.8 at 12:50 am
i say Juwan is a better pickup for them. they need a vet who can teach the young guns how to play.

Stro would be a great energy guy off the bench for them. I’d love to see him succeed, I always thought he had what it takes, it just never came together for him. If he could get a couple big blocks or dunks off the bench he’d be a good fit.

Stro is the quintessential neck down All Star. All that talent, no work ethic or basketball IQ.

  • BossTerry Posted: Sep.9 at 6:09 pm
Signing Howard would be a good move, but I dont think they (or us fans) have given up on possibly getting David Lee, If they can afford him and hes ok with coming off the bench..

it is really a suprising move by Portland.Howard is at his 36 and hasn’t play much recently. maybe his experience make him stand out. Good luck anyway.
