Brook Lopez Envisions Going to the Playoffs

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with dreaming big (and totally unrealistically): “It’s good to see that the Nets have not set their standards as low as many of their critics have. A little more than three weeks away from the start of training camp, it’s obvious that the Nets believe they can do a whole lot better than they are expected to. Though far short of a guarantee, Brook Lopez said today that he’s expecting to make the playoffs. Stop laughing so you can read exactly what he said following Day 3 of voluntary workouts in East Rutherford: ‘I want us to be a playoff team. I think we can do that, definitely make the playoffs. We have a enough talent.”‘

I want me to play in the NBA. Dreams can be so sweet. Good luck Brooke!

I envision going to Dinner with Taraji Henson, but like Brook I’m only dreaming.

I don’t know about the playoffs. What I do know is that Brook Lopez is a beast. Far better right now than fellow young bigs like GO and Bynum who get all the hype. Quite simply, there are no flaws to his game. Don’t get me wrong, he can improve on EVERYTHING but no glaring weaknesses. Haven’t seen that since TD, really. He can post up, shoot the face up J, go to the hole, hit his FTs, play low post D, block shots, rebound the ball, run the break, be physical… everything you need from a big. I remember a game against Yao last year, he was just abusing him on the glass.

I look for him to have a really good season.
@ Z I think you meant run the floor, not the break.

You know, if the Nets REALLY do make the Playoffs this year, I will be amazed. And I agree with Z. He’s surprisingly efficient on the court.

niQ, this is Brook Lopez, where AMAZING happens.

Gotta agree with Z on this. He’s probably the most fundamentally sound big man we’ve seen since Yao and Duncan. Offensively he’s already far more polished than Dwight, and he’s no slouch at his big man duties, too. I don’t think the playoffs are a stretch a year or two from now for this Nets nucleus.

As a Nets fan, I am VERY happy with Lopez; in fact, I’m pretty happy with the current roster. There are like 6 young guys (including Harris) who are all willing to work hard, who are all improving or willing to improve, and who all have nice contracts. So as a team, the Nets have a great foundation to work with. But the question remains: moving yes or no?

With the Nets going back to a running/defensive-minded system this year, I think there’s some hope in the swamp. I absolutely do not foresee them finishing last in the east. Not with the Knicks, Bucks, Pacers, Bobcats, and Pistons all in similar rebuilding/cost cutting modes. All I know is, if you have Devin Harris, Courtney Lee, Brook Lopez and Terrence Williams digging in defensively, then running the break down opposing teams throats, the Nets will definitely exceed expectations.

And with a solid bench of Skip, Keyon, CDR, Jarvis Hayes, Battie, Simmons I think NJ could make a late season push. Especially if Yi has the kind of season he started to have before breaking his finger.

@ Gerard-As a fellow Nets fan, I must say that I’m pretty satisfied with the roster myself. Good young pieces, committed like you said. And with the most cap space in the league next year good things can happen. I am not for the move, I really hope they stay in NJ, and if that means not bringing in a James, Wade etc. I’m perfectly fine with that. Really I only see win-win for Nets fans. Either the team does better than expected (worst, so they can only go up), and moves to a first class arena in bklyn and brings in a top notch free-agent, or moves to a first class arena in Newark, gets another lotto pick and the chance to sign one of the lesser focused on fa’s.

No way! He must be on something

  • Shem

Brook Lopez is definetly a top 10 center in the league and hes going into his 2nd season. The nets have to be happy with harris, lopez, lee, alston, yi. Future is bright but hopefully something goes wrong seeing how im a raps fan

  • mdshuai

The Nets will go only as far as DH can take them; and I don’t think that’s to the playoffs just yet

NJ4Life: I like the positivity! I’m dutch, so obviously I can’t see them for myself besides watching online games, but I hope they will defend hard and just run run run run! What’s also promising is that I’ve heard about 5 different players say that Terrence Williams’ passing is really, really good!

  • la huey

Can’t fault the guy for this. Playoffs should be the minimum of goals. What should he say? “We’d like to still be mathematically alive for the playoffs in January.”

Hey Gerard, being Dutch doesn’t stop me from visiting the swamp.

your just too excited by brooks dream…

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

I’m afraid so. By December when the Nets might be 2-15 I will come back to earth…. but if they’re hovering around .500, I’m a happy man.

  • Landyn15

they might have a shot….if they get better talent to go along with harris and brook (so probably not)
