Bruce Bowen Denies Playing Dirty

We don’t believe you, Bruce. You need more people: “There’s only one incident where I can say was calculated and that was the time I kicked Ray Allen. I kicked Ray after I drew the charge but I didn’t like what took place with the charge and I did something which was not right, I kicked him while he was right there in front of me and I was reprimanded for that. But all the other things that took place, it was more of a buildup of who I had become as far as a tough nosed defender, where people started to say I was crossing the line. And, it was unfortunate because a lot of the guys that were saying these things were all-stars, and part of it was they didn’t like me guarding them.’”

This is like a fat kid saying he didn’t eat the cake when there are smudges all over his face.

Man this guy is stupid. I loved it when he always did the ankle trick on people after they shot.

I’ll say… half and half. I’ve seen Bowen do some extra-grimey things. However, I’ve seen him do some flat out “I’ma lock you up” things as well, and that should account for something being that if his career would have been anywhere between the years ’80 yo around ’95, he would have been fine. Rodman percieved even. Perhaps.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

    to around*

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

I’ve never seen video of Rodman intentionally trying to stomp someones achilles on a fast break.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

No, but you have seen him kick a camera man that had nothing to do with the play before get kicked in the balls.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

    It’s all relative.

    bowen isn’t a dirty player??? lmfao and Sasha isn’t a h0m0!!

  • Strotter

    Sasha is a homosexual?

  • Fat Lever

Yea, karate kicking Wally Szzurp in the face when trying to close out on a 3 isn’t dirty at all. NBA players get Daniel-son’d in the face all the time!

  • http://shoenut.blogspot.com ShoeNut

Mr. PotatoHead aka Bruce Bowen is an aggressive defender, so I can see why people think he is dirty, but I don’t think he is out there to hurt someone or end their career. But I still hate the spurs. Lakers back to back in 2010.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Bowen was derrty. The kicks and the punches aren’t the whole story. What was really a b-tch move was stepping in on the shooters after the release. They HAD to pay attention to his feet in order to not roll their ankles, therefore messing up their motions. B-tch move.

  • Cmonpeoples

I’ll even go so far as to say that that’s like Hitler saying he didn’t hate Jews

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

    LMAO@fat lever

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Z is right.
Mind games with people’s careers is dirty. It’s a part of the game (thing Detroit Bad Boys) but it’s still dirty.

  • http://myspace.com/showbread Bryan

    F*ck this dude.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Allen, but if you want to take somebody out say ”I’m taking you out”. That’s the big difference between Bowen and real tough dudes. I wanted to throw things at the TV every time he would raise his hands after the whistle looking like he didn’t know what the hell was going on.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

    Basically, co-sign Bryan.

  • Duncan21

Ha Bowen was the Ultimate gangster. Like Gary payton, stuck like white on rice man. Talk your sh!t, but he would still shut your OFF-ense down. Hi Haters!

  • a_whiteman

this guy did more dirty work then norm mcdonald and artie lang

F Bowen being a lock down defender garbage. No respect for this cheap dude.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Bruce Bowen thinks he wasn’t a dirty player. You keep telling yourself that, Bruce.

  • http://www.infamousklav.blogspot.com Klav

@Moose Bruce B wasn’t dirty, he was malicious. Clearly there is a significant difference. LOL

  • heartlandG

Regardless if he was dirty or not-Who wouldnt want a hardnose D up player like him on they squad-You get 6 fouls USE EM!

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

The funny thing is, Timmy and co, approved of it.

  • Posterboy15

I remember a Nets game a while back when Vince Carter just got traded there in 04′, and Vince torched Bowen and the Spurs 46 points thru 3 qtrs with about 6 minutes to go in the 3rd..Bowen deliberatley went underneath carter on a 3point attempt and carter twisted his ankle as he was coming down..carter got ejected for charging at him..I despised bowen ever since, funny how this post is next to vinces.could have been a magical night against da best defense in th L….

  • http://tinyurl.com/c3atn4 Ryan Biddulph

An aggressive player but not an out and out dirty player.

If a guy repeatedly does malicious things he could be considered dirty. It’s the full body of work, and I haven’t seen Bowen lose it on more than an occasion or two.

He’s likes to do things to get in guys heads, but that’s nothing. Part of the game, and it’s opponent’s fault anyway if they let him do that to them.

Other than that it’s a physical game. Sometimes emotions get the best of guys and they snap, just like everybody has at one time or another.

He’s not supposed to admit it, that’s the point… I like how people complain and condemn Bruce Bowen for being a cheap and dirty defender, yet DENNIS FREAKING RODMAN is praised for being a “toughnosed, scrappy defensive genius” and placed in NBA Greatest 50 lists (well, just SLAM’s).

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty aka Free Lester Hudson

Dennis “FREAKING” Rodman, made movies with Jean Claud Van Damme, Bruce Bowen is a floppy vagina. You can get away with more then people like you. For reference, look at the world.

  • ulysses

well i can see that he did made poeple cry ……………..best defender thats my opinion///////bruce is one of a kind if the celtics think harder they ask for him again in the playoffs……….thats a garanteed championship

  • ulysses

    bruce

  • luv2ball

Didn’t he knee Steve Nash in the ahem “groin” area during a playoff game? In other news Michael Jordan said that he indeed is best friends with Isaiah Thomas.

Dennis Rodman is also the greatest rebounder to ever exist, that helped him make a few all-time lists too.

He did more dirty work than OJ’s lawyer and the Bush administration.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Dennis Rodman is not the greatest rebounder ever. Pound for pound maybe, because he was only like 6-7, but in terms of pure rebounding he is NOT the best.

  • Rnz

Umm..Bruce, Wally got something to say

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ Brad Long: Nope, but I have seen Rodman intentionally stomp out a cameraman for being in his path as he tripped out of bounds.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I’m not a huge Bowen fan, and I like Dennis Rodman as a player (although I do not see him as top 50 all time), but if you’re going to h@te Bruce Bowen with a passion for being a dirty player (which he was), then coming back and revering Dennis Rodman (especially as a top 50 player) is insanely hypocritical.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

“pound for pound”…? There’s that allegorical phrase popping up again.

I don’t hate Bruce Bowen for being a dirty player, I don’t even hate him; I even employ some of his tactics defensively because mind games are the source of about 33.33% of success in game situations – I dislike him as a Suns fan. Simple as this.
Whats hypocritical is saying that: “pound for pound” Dennis Rodman may be the best rebounder, but then saying he’s not the best rebounder….?

  • http://dfsjklf.com Jukai

There’s a HUGE F*CKING DIFFERENCE between Dennis Rodman and Bruce Bowen. When Rodman knocked out a ref, he didn’t then stare at everyone with that “what did I do” look. Rodman was straight forward crazy. Bowen was dirty and malicious. I have SOME respect for Rodman. I have no respect for Bowen.
Rodman is not the best rebounder ever. Ask Bill Russell who the best is.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

No, in terms of output he is not the best rebounder of all time. I’m saying for his size (ie pound for pound), he is the best rebounder of all time.
However, when you’re talking about actual rebounding output, then guys like Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain are two of the best rebounders ever, and are both better than Dennis Rodman. Meaning, they put up better numbers on average, as well as in extreme bursts (ie career highs) in rebounding.
Now had Dennis been a 7 foot giant, he very well might have been the undisputed best at rebounding; but he wasn’t.
Its like how Mark Jackson said Allen Iverson is pound for pound the greatest player ever, because of his physical size, or ‘pounds’. Obviously Jordan is the best, but for his size AI is the best for what he’s done.
Don’t sweat, I wasn’t calling you a hypocrite. That wasn’t directed to you. Didn’t mean to offend.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    ^^^ That was @ Dacre.
