Heat Retiring Tim Hardaway’s Jersey

No Miami Heat player will ever wear Mr. I Got Skillz‘s number again: “The Heat announced Thursday that Hardaway will become the second of its players to have his number retired, with his No. 10 to join Mourning’s No. 33 above the Heat’s home court in a ceremony prior to the team’s Oct. 28 regular-season opener against the visiting New York Knicks. ‘Words can’t describe what I’m feeling right now, just to be acknowledged as one of the best players in Heat history and getting your number retired,’ Hardaway said by phone shortly after the announcement. ‘When they told me, I had a smile on my face like the Joker. This solidifies my career here.”‘

great news, good move by the heat…but will keep that wade in mia….

  • Joe A

Well deserved. I remember being five or six years old trying awkwardly to do the “Utep two step” and the awesomeness that was “Run TMC”. But he really came into his own when he played for the Heat.

The best part is that they’re doing it on Gay Pride Day in Miami.

  • Czechmate

I wonder if he’ll bring his “God Hates F**s” crew along with him. . . .

He deserves the honor. When I saw him play here in the Philippines for an exhibition game last week, he can still ball actually. Lacks the quickness but he still has it. :D

All musical selections that night will be done by Sir Elton John. Playlist includes Gloria Gaynor “Raining Men”.

    nice one.

Hopefully they won’t put his jersey TOO close to Mourning’s cause yo, that would make my man just a little bit uncomfortable.

  • onlyclipfanonslam

and 2 jerseys of TMC not being repped in GS?!?! blasphemy

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Damn, a Joker reference too. Hopefully it ain’t a Glasgow smile though.

  • Hussman25

Bout time… best PG they ever had… Even though Tim has Vomit of the mouth, his skills are undeniable… Golden State… hopefully someone in the front office is reading this and will do a retirement of all the numbers for RUN-TMC!

so they got Zo down with 33, 10 done with Timmy…and you all realise they retired Jordans number 23 right?
    I WANT TO KNOW ONE THING….where’s Glen Rice’s 41??

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Now if the Knicks could watch their rivals, and retire John Starks and Bernard King’s jerseys.

Nike, you are paying attention, right? How about you re-release the Air Go LWP’s in honor of this event. Please, pretty please? Oh, and is John Amaechi invited to be a speaker at the ceremonies?

  • COLT6

BREAKING NEWS: John Amaechi, Elton John and Kanye West are guests-of-honor.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Blinguo

Of course he wouldn’t be retired by this barrel of laughs and monkeys in the Oracle’s, forget that, Arena in Oakland’s front office. They damn near slammed the door on Mullin recently. And Nellie Rules 24/7 in cahoots with Robert Rowell and Cohan.
Mitch is up in Sac. No big problem with that.

  • rob stewart

Was he good enough to get his # retired. Mookie Blaylock, BJ Armstrong, Jeff Hornacek, and Mike Bibby should have there #’s retired too I guess.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

Please tell me you’re joking Rob…

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

I dunno about Mookie and BJ, Dacre had a point with Glen Rice’s jersey, but I think he had his best games as a hornet.. Is there a rule that it has to be the team that drafted the player, or where he spent the most time, or something.. If im not mistaken, Divac is retired in Sacramento and not LA..(I could be wrong)

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I agree with Dacre, what the heck are the Heat doing retiring Jordan’s number before one of their own, Glen Rice?
I think the Warriors should retire Mitch Richmond’s number too.
And especially, the Knicks have to retire John Starks’ #3 and Bernard King’s #30.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Run TMC was freaking awesome.

  • Justin

The entire league should have retired Jordan’s number. Miami showing a lot of class by being the first franchise outside the Bulls to do it. John Starks? Are you kidding me? Bernard King for sure but Starks? He was so overrated it’s laughable. A player’s number should be retired when they’ve done something great for the franchise or city. I’m not even sure Hardaway qualifies although a lot of people were unable to do great things like win titles while Michael was around. Love the commercial with “notice the ugly knuckleball action”. lol

  • Randy Brown

Well deserved. Never saw Tim play at Golden State, but he had some great games in Miami. Fond memories of him hitting at least 1678 threes in a playoff game against the Knicks

  • Diego

What did he accomplish in Miami to get his number retired? Oh this is the same team that retired Michael Jordan’s number.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

    @ Boss Terry

There’s no “rule” for who should retire whom, when, where etc… It comes down to either establishing some form of pride in the history of your ball club (if you feel said player established or contributed to that history) or at worst there is some precedent being set (like with Miami retiring 23 for MJ). I’ve always been supportive of the idea of retiring someones JERSEY not their NUMBER, otherwise you expect that numbers will run out, at some point…
Boston alone have 21 numbers hanging in the rafter and for the record I hate seeing 00 on a jersey.

  • c vullo

ok ok…now retire JOHN STARKS F*CKING NUMBER!!!!
