Lakers Sign Mickael Gelabale

The Lakers will add even more international flavor to its roster with the signing of swingman Mickael Gelabale, who will be the second French player in franchise history after Ronny Turiaf. The former Sonic will join the team for training camp on a make-good contract.

“It’s a dream come true for me,” Gelabale said. “It’s a legendary team, with guys like Magic, Kareem, Kobe… I was a fan of the team as a kid.”

Adam Morrison slips even further on the Lakers’ depth chart. Where is he EVER gonna get minutes behind Kobe, Artest, Odom, Walton, Vujacic, and Gelabale?

don’t the lakers just keep morrison, to make sure, he won’t become the next larry bird…?

This is a great opportunity… With his potential I’d really like to see him out play Vujacic (dont like that guy).

Gelabale said. “It’s a legendary team, with guys like Magic, Kareem, Kobe… I was a fan of the team as a kid.” Shaq is gonna be looking to dunk on you the first opportunity he gets. However, now that the Diesel is more like the Steam Engine, it may not happen in this lifetime.

Nah, he’s not officially on the roster. He is only getting a contract for training camp, baiscally a “partially agreed” contract. Lakers could drop him before the season depending on how well he does in training camp

cool can adam morrison now please go to europe and play there he obviously isn’t good enough for the nba let jj redick join him put em on one team and sell em as the greatest players out of the us college ranks in 05 because if you have to beleive the reccord books that’s what they are hhhhhhhhhhahahaha

If I remember correctly, he got tangled up with Kobe once & got kinda heated, & then ofcourse Kobe went off. Any who, good for him though.

I guess they did this in case Sasha doesn’t play well, or Ron Ron goes crazy or is otherwise unusable they have a swing man with athleticism to help out some.

looks like theres another benchwarmer on the team

  • Benjing Posted: Sep.21 at 6:22 am
Well, although this contract is just for training camp yet, he was useful in Seattle and he was starting to click when he injured his knee. Don’t forget he’s young (just 24), he was considered one of the best European defenders (same defensive skills as M. Pietrus) and was a clear starter for Real Madrid (a European powerhouse) before he got drafted by the Sonics.
I say this guy can play in the NBA, maybe 6th men status and has the defensive and offensive skills to hold his own, no superstar status to foresee but a good solid NBA player.

God knows I hate the lakers, but can’t help but applaud this pickup. Galebale is a solidly skilled wingman, and if Phil does decide to coach again, this guy should fit in perfectly to the kind of archetype wingman Phil likes: Defensive minded, solid shooting, quick and long. If anything else this should mark the end of Vujacic getting any extended playing time which is all kinds of good.
