Raymond Felton Taking a 1-year Deal

Raymond and the ‘Cats couldn’t agree on a long-term deal, so he will reportedly hit the open market next summer: “After discussing a long-term deal last week, talks between Felton and Charlotte have broken down, and multiple sources now say that rather than continuing negotiations, Felton will simply sign the one-year, $5.5 million qualifying offer put forth by the Bobcats. That will allow Felton to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, putting another name into the already deep pool of 2010 free-agent players.”

    I like this. It gives DJ Augustine 1 year to prove if they can let Felton go and have him be the starter. If not then they work on a reasonable contract for Raymond, hopefully under a new and happy owner.

    I personally hope that DJ steps up and starts and they can let Raymond go and spend the extra cash on a scorer. Oh optimism…

    Certainly not the biggest of names in the pool. I am not impressed by Felton, but he might not be too impressed by the Bobcats himself?

    This is a smart move for Felton. The Hornets don’t seem to value Felton. Felton is a good guard and he is still young. Next year he will get the money that he deserves. The Hornets better hope little DJ step his game up.

    Sounds like a Ben Gordon move to me. Felton will jump on the first big offer he gets from another team, bet. No…not you, BET.

    The Hornet’s moved to New Orleans. Charlotte has the Bobcats now.

    And I would not be surprised to see Felton leave next season, granted I think it could be good for him AND good for the Bobcats.

    It seems like I’m the only one who really likes Felton’s game… I would love to have him as my PG for the future. All he needs to do is to continue to develop that jumper. How much do you think he will get? Like 10M for 5 years? Maybe they can swing a deal with the Pistons… Stuckey, their 1st rounder and a bit of dead salary for him? Pistons would be sick. Felton, Gordon, Prince, Villaneuva and Stoudemire? Dreams… lol

    I’ve known duck for years, he has to improve his mid-range game in order to solidfy himself as high caliber point guard, do I think he’s better than D.J. Augistine, light years better on-the-ball defender, better creator, and a better finisher and the bobcats if they were smart would do everything in there will to get him back next season, he has a lot of room for improvement but he’s tough and he can run an offense, Augistene is a 2 guard in a point guards body, and he’s not over powering anyone or out quicking anyone to get to the cup, he shoots the ball well but you have to do more than that to play the one in the league.
