Sessions, Wolves Agree to Offer Sheet

by Ryne Nelson

When you can’t convince an 18-year-old Spanish point guard to play, your next-step, naturally, must be to sign Ramon Sessions.

Or such is the logic of Wolves GM David Kahn. Razor Ramon has been in talks with the Knicks and Clippers this summer and neither team was willing to give the PG the deal he desired. The Knicks offered a one-year pact. The Clippers preferred Sebastian Telfair. And the Wolves? They’ve just extended a four-year, $16 million offer sheet:

The Wolves will announce, within the hour, that they have signed Bucks restricted free agent point guard Ramon Sessions to an offer sheet. Details are sketchy, but the offer has been made, according to a source.

The Bucks will have seven days to match the offer, which an ESPN report says is for four years and $16 million (the fourth year being a player option). Milwaukee, however, is close to the luxury tax threshold and it’s been widely reported that the team would be unlikely to match an offer to Sessions.

The Bucks have proven this summer that they’re trying to save as much money as possible, and with Brandon Jennings, Luke Ridnour and Roko Ukic, there’s less than a zero percent chance Milwaukee will match this offer.

It seems like just yesterday when Sessions came from the D-League, dropping 20+ assist nights at the end of the ’07-08 season. Come to think of it, that was just about yesterday. Boy, how quickly things change.

what is with minnesota and point guards this summer anyway?

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

can’t Stern do something about knicks sabatoging themselves from within?

  • Tyrone Shoelaces

4 years?! Rubio = never wearing a Timberwolves uniform.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

LOL. the knicks missed out big time on this..

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

I can’t BELIEVE that NYK would not offer 16 mil for 4 for this guy. ”Nah, we straight, we gon roll with Chris Duhon…” THE FCUK!!

  • http://www.larrybird.com larry bird

this is obnoxious, johnny flynn needs the ball and the reigns, the only way this works is they alternate bringing the ball up, play during the minutes where the other is benched and switch off to the greatest extent possible, or learn to play to each others strength. Sessions is an excellent distributor, but not a real scorer, whereas flynn is built for offense, with good jumper, great handles and exceptional athelticism.

i dotn think it works, and add rubio to the mix, its over.

but, if it does work, its great. the wolves have given up very little in my opinion and now have to stars in the making at the guard positions, even if they end up having an undersized backcourt, one of hte better posrt players in the game in al jefferson, and a really efficient guy who will probably end up doing like 16 and 10 this year in kevin love, and their all young

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

And yeah, they’re pretty much going to wait for the best offer available for Rubio. I wouldn’t be surprised if some franchises were willing to give up established vets, possibly borderline all stars.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

him and flynn = fire and ice. I like this combo for minny. I am also glad Ramon finnaly got a team. Maybe now the Bobcats will sign Iverson and trade Felton to the Knicks for David Lee…you say im a dreamer but im not the only one.

  • Remo Williams

so first they break NYs heart by not trading rubio… then they snatch sessions. Knick fans, enjoy your 2009 team!

  • Kevin

    The Knicks fail at life

  • http://www.infamousklav.blogspot.com Klav

might as well dismember the entire Knicks organization. blow up the team!!!

  • Big D

So, how in the world is Minny going to put Flynn at the #2 and have him match up with 6’5″+ shooting guards? Kahn is obsessed with point guards. Go get a real center. Blount, Ryan Hollins, and Pechorov are currently the “true” centers on the roster.

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

4 years at 4 mill each is a serious bargain for Sessions. I still can’t figure out why the Knicks wouldn’t sign him over Lil Nate.

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

Big D, Sessions is like 6’4″, maybe they plan on having him defend opposing SGs and having Flynn guard PGs. The bigger issue would be the total lack of outside shooting for the TWolves.
    Free Rodney Carney!!!

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

i really wish i despise the Knicks so i can just laugh at their shamockery front office.

  • LA Huey

So since Minny is intent on running a 2-pg scheme, I expect a hell of a plan…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

What the hell is wrong with Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni?

  • davidR

isiah woulda signed him by now

I think a trade has got to be in the works. It has just got to be.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

@ BETCATS: And I think that the Celtics are gonna trade Brian Scalabrine for Chris Bosh.

  • LeoneL

@Seven deuce…I sure do hope so..

  • twalter

They can’t have Sessions, Rubio, and Flynn on the same court two years from now, right?

  • Tredders

Does this already spell the end of Rubio in Minny, if that was ever going to happen?

K-RINO,”the world”, “how can i pledge allegiance with wretched thieves and deviance when all my people ever received was degrievin and deadly disagreements, strategic deceivin. now you expect me to stand and believe in an anthem francis scott key penned back in 1814 when black people where bein held in bondage, ways of despicable disgust so those words were not applicable to us. you got the hell beat out ya, right after you served and fought wars, so why you facin the flag with your hand pressed against your heart for? dont be misled, see the red represents oceans of bloodshed from the millions they murdered and left dead with no sympathy or leniency. the second color up in that flag represents the wicked premise of white supremacy, we live under its sick direction. just like the the sky falsely appears to the eye as the color blue represents deception. so nows the time for resurrection. if you cant see america fallin right in front of you, you need an eye inspection.”

  • http://thesportsdiaryonline.blogspot.com Roy

@ Moose: Scallie for Chris Bosh? Really? That would be interesting…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

If the Knicks seriously passed on Sessions to get Rubio, I think I might revoke my fanship from this joke of a management.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Since the Bucks were never on tv, I dont know much about this guy. But from what Ive been reading on here is that heis pretty good.. Good pick-up, but I think they still need a few more shooters..

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Maybe I was being a little harsh… But the Knicks have had so many chances to improve but passed on all of them. What the f*ck.

  • ciroqobama

    Sessions > Rubio

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Well, on the bright side, at least Sessions CAN play SG.

  • Mister T

Good news. Why give flynn the reigns right away?? Even kobe didn’t start right away. Let him earn it if he’s really the better pg. -And Sessions is a beast

  • COLT6

All point guards. Hey Minny, hook me up, I’ll give both Sessions and Flynn a run for their money.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Underrated.

  • Christian BulleN

Hey Minnesota, I’ve been known to dabble in playing some point. I know you guys are looking for another so…

  • rikson

Damn it… What about NY??? Hopefully they sign Iverson now… But if they continue their horrible work they might end up with a hotdog playing the point!

  • chintao

Since Sessions and Flynn can’t really be expected to work in the backcourt together, the Knicks must have let Minnesota sign Sessions, in order to instigate a deal for J. Fly…. And then, I woke-up and realized that we are talking about the Knicks here. the misery and embarrassment continue.
