What Will Cavs Do With Delonte West?

The media, team, and its fans have looked the other way with past incidents. They may not be able to this time around: “It likely will come out in time just what West’s state of mind was as he traveled down the highway with the guns. His father told The Washington Post, ‘all I can say is Delonte was looking behind his back and protecting himself’ and hinted he was concerned for his safety for some reason. No matter what, it isn’t going to be as simple as West did something wrong and then he’ll be punished. There are gray areas and decisions the Cavs may have to make about how to deal with West. How they can continue to try to help him, how to understand him. Or perhaps even where they should draw the line.”

What I want to know is this: why the hell was West carrying three guns? What was he going to do?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

They should sell him to the Nets. I’m sure that if the potential new Nets owner has prostitution going on he can find a place for Mr. West.

More importantly, though…what will the Cavs do without him. Delonte was one of the few guys on that team who played with any real fire or consistency during the playoffs. Danny Ferry had better hope & pray this doesn’t end up being another Plaxico Burress-type situation.

  • foolio_iglesias

    Keep him!What team couldn’t use a reliable shooter?(No Stephen Jackson….)

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

If you make millions of dollars, can’t you just hire a bodyguard?

  • foolio_iglesias

And I never quite felt that the term ‘looking behind your back’ was accurate. How is that even humanly possible?Or even theoretically possible? No matter how you turn to look, your back would always be facing the opposite direction…..

He gives new meaning to the phrase “riding shotgun”. Hursty that was funny.

there might even be some “grey” areas

    @ foolio LMAO you’re awesome!

Well, he lost his starting spot that’s for sure. I think it could actually be a blessing in disguise since he could be more useful for the team backing up both guard spots. At this point, I wouldn’t be mad if they got rid of him. Yeah, he’s a warrior and all but there’s already two weed incidents (last summer and the KFC thing) and now guns…

  • T Money

Lets hope D West doesn’t have any dead pitbulls burried in his back yard.

  • mumadone

actually isn’t what’s behind your back the front of your back side, so anything that is in front of you is really behind your back……maybe not

  • mac

    TERMINATOR!

  • http://Egotastic.com Michael

Without Delonte the Cav’s defense will drop off significantly.

  • Drew

Clearly, he had an El Mariachi moment. Delonte was heading to play guitar at a friend’s wedding, and he accidently picked up the guitar case of a drug mob hit man. It happens. Just watch the movie (the one in Spanish, not the lame US remake).

  • Mr. Sniffles

it’s quite possible Delonte was either headed to or returning from the shooting range…you know a weekend kinda hobby thing. simple explanation.

  • Kevin

Delonte was riding down the highway with 3 guns, strapped ready for war? Is that a person you really wanna call and say you’re suspended or cut?

Litebrite will go postal on the Cavs

  • Bballrehab

That’s what happens when your I.Q. is below 100.

  • iLL wiLL

    Dude is just wild.

  • ClydeSays

Cavs have to respond with a significant suspension. Esp. if it comes out that West is on prescription meds & the guns are unlicensed.

  • http://IJustWantMyNameToLookBig Chukaz

Did he have a license for the guns? If he did, then who gives a f*ck how many guns he had or why he had them. If they are legally owned, nothing wrong happened here. Let the man be himself.

  • BackInBlack

    Anthony Parker is gonna start

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

sometimes i forget that i’m not american when commenting on (really) american issues. until guys like chukaz comment. now there was nothing incorrect in his statement, it was just very… american.

  • http://fjdklf.com Jukai

If I was Delonte, I woulda just said “Man, I just bought all these new guns and I was heading to my friends house strapped like the Terminator to show them off. It’s all about the showiness, ya know?”
    I’d buy it.
Mostly because I’m I like the Cavs.

  • http://fjdklf.com Jukai

Chukaz: He didn’t have them registered, but even if he did, I’m pretty sure there are massive concealment laws he was violating, considering he had two guns out in the f*cking open.

  • http:///realcavsfans.com Anton

I say let him find Sarah Connor first.

  • WOODY

If the guns were in the open then they, obviously, wouldn’t be concealed and would be just as legal as the hunting rifles hanging over the bed of your pickup. They were his legally obtained weapons but there was no permit to carry them concealed (CCW). The latest is that the cased shotgun, although a bit wierd, is legal and not an issue. The two CONCEALED handguns could lead to a charge of CCW without a permit (a misdemeanor in MD, not a felony.)This could lead to a fine, community service counseling, etc. His first hearing will not be until late November. A guilty plea would end it or his attorney could plead him not guilty and set up a trial for next year sometime. NBA and team action would have to wait until after all legal proceedings. I would predict that he’s guilty – gets a small legal punishment – and is then disciplined by team and the NBA for some ‘conduct unbecoming’ type charge which could include a fine and/or suspension – some or all of which would be suspended if he gets psychological help. Effect one. West gets help – hopefully now and not next summer. Effect two. Something fun to talk about beyond who is # 27 on the SLAM list.

Are you tryna be funny Michael? DWest can shoot (the basketball I mean) and he plays with a lot of heart but do you really think he can contain premier 2 guards in the league with his size (or lack thereof) deep in the playoffs? Naw, they need a bigger 2, a Bruce Bowen/Shane Battier type. Anthony Parker is an uglier version of Pavlovic: NO D. What will the Cavs do with Delonte West? Keep him but make sure he employs bodyguards next time.

  • COLT6

    to watch his back. Haha!

  • http://onlydopemusic.com killakal

Delonte West is a straight up gangstaaa!!!!! LOL. I once saw him when he played for the Sonics with his team at a night club in Vancouver. All the other guys were a$$holes, but Delonte gave me a pound! LOL

Rod strickland is a friend of mine and when he went pro we were followed around in his car daily by every nut you can imagine. Bodyguards can be helpful or a hindrance. They always got some shit for the tabloids after you paid them. Every person you meet is potential fraud. Antoine walker and Eddy (feed me more)Curry shoulda had gats when they got robbed. Face it these guys are street millionaires and 911 is still a joke soooooo.

  • T Money

They need to team him up with Super Cool Beas. Who would not want to watch that reality show?

  • vic21

Anyone named “Delonte” must have serious issues. I think he was gonna kill his parents for giving him that stupid name which in addition to his stupid looking face and his stupid actions make him a really stupid guy.

  • UnRel

i’m surprised no smart ass said that most nba contracts have a no-motorcyle clause.. well.. i guess i’m the smart ass now..

Delonte West is a kid. And kids do silly things no matter who their employer is. If he was thinking of going to the hood he had better join the Pagans or strap like he did. A bike like that would trigger an alert the moment he would hit the block. See dem dudes bragging about how they stuck Red for his new trycicle in broad daylight.
Gotta love Delonte for making headlines the way he does though. Or maybe he was just going to guitar rehearsel?
