Big Z Contemplating Retirement

Zydrunas knows that his time in the League is almost at an end. In fact, this could be his last go-around: “Ilgauskas, 34, is getting close to the end of the line. His contract expires at the end of this season, and he told FanHouse he might retire next summer. ‘This [season] could be it,’ Ilgauskas said. ‘I don’t know … Injuries. Everything else. I’m not a spring chicken any more. So we’ll see how I feel [after the season].”’

Big Z coming off the bench can extend his career by 3 years and will def help his performance since he can dominate most #2 big men. Spliting time with Shaq will really help Shaq stay healthy too.

Send the big fella into retirement with a ring.

If this is his last year, then the Cavs better make it special by winning it all. That, or just send him to SA or LA. lol

Dudes been through a lot and never complains to the media about anything. Very underrated and very talented big man

I’d say injuries robbed him of much of what should have been his prime. That & playing with a bunch of losing Cavs lineups where Ricky Davis was the best player.

Whenever I see him play, he’s always making those mid-range jumpers and killing the big men. He could still be serviceable off the bench for a lot of teams. I think he knows that, but saying he might retire could generate some “please come play for us” offers.

Cavs’ front line after this season will be very post-championship Heat.

when WAS he a spring chicken?

  • rog123 Posted: Oct.8 at 1:23 pm
If he does retire and cle doesn’t try and replace him, james might not stick around.

rog123, I don’t think that Ilgauskas is the deciding factor in James’s free agency…

  • rog123 Posted: Oct.8 at 7:26 pm
Well moose, think about it. If big z is out, who will be his replacement? Andy? Hickson? Because I feel like shaq doesn’t really wanna be in cleveland

if i remember correctly, when Z was a free agent a few years back, james wanted the cavs to sign curry over Z? ain’t he glad cavs kept Z? reflecting - Z’s been totally underrated… bring back eric snow to give him more touches off the bench!

What do you mean who will be his replacement? Are they not allowed to sign or trade for a big man in the summer?
