Donnie Walsh: Curry > Rubio

If given the opportunity, the Knicks’ president would’ve snapped up Stephen Curry in the draft, ahead of Ricky Rubio: ” At dinner Friday night I asked Walsh who he would have selected had he been able to acquire the fourth or fifth spot in last June’s draft: Curry or Ricky Rubio? ‘Curry,’ he answered without a pause. ‘Not only is he a great shooter but he can get his shot on anyone. Opponents look at his baby face and figure they can manhandle him. Meanwhile he tore up every top-rated guard he went up against at our workout, including Tyreke Evans, who might be the best player in the draft next to Blake Griffin.”‘

What’s more surprising is, you had dinner with Walsh?

  • rog123 Posted: Oct.6 at 11:14 am
That makes sense. Why would the knicks want a prodigy pg, who is a playmaker, with the potential to be great when they can have a guy who LOOOOVVVEESS to shoot?

  • Kevin Wilson Posted: Oct.6 at 11:16 am
Anybody on Knicks roster < Rubio.

  • Torrance Posted: Oct.6 at 11:19 am
Hey Slam, when is the new NBA Live 10 in stores?

  • tavoris Posted: Oct.6 at 11:29 am
    today, Torrance

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Oct.6 at 11:31 am
Considering Curry had been their target since his conception…this is news?

  • Are people really this stupid? Im not even refering to the fact that your asking when a game is comming out on website that has ads for said game all over the fu@king website that say “out now”, im refering to fact that your planning on buying NBA Live.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Oct.6 at 11:35 am
And that Lee “scoop” is tremendous: “Contrary to popular belief, David Lee had plenty of other offers. Well, one offer, with no actual deal on the table, that he had to make a decision on overnight. BUT YOU’RE STILL ALL STUPID FOR BELIEVING OTHER WRITERS.”

    something something LeBron’s friend something

  • Enigmatic Posted: Oct.6 at 12:05 pm
Co-sign Boing Dynasty, like, to the umpteenth power. I’ma cop that 2K10 though, no doubt! Oh and…. like Russ said, how is this news?

  • Torrance Posted: Oct.6 at 12:13 pm
Is that a fact, tavoris? I would never have guessed it.

  • niQ Posted: Oct.6 at 12:15 pm
@Boing Dynasty, I almost want to believe he was being sarcastic..

  • Ben Osborne Posted: Oct.6 at 12:21 pm
I thought they entire Viper column was OUTSTANDING. Hall of Fame material, I dare say.

  • Torrance Posted: Oct.6 at 12:23 pm
    Also: I absolutely love Boing’s & Enigmatic’s reactions.

  • Jukai Posted: Oct.6 at 12:31 pm
    Oh man, rog123, genius

  • Enigmatic Posted: Oct.6 at 12:39 pm
Torrance, you got us. Ha ha shoulda guessed you were being sarcastic and pointing out the annoying NBA Live ads everywhere. Shoulda known you weren’t dumb enough to actually buy that crap….you are not going to buy it, right? Seriously? It is crap, you know….

  • Dfrance Posted: Oct.6 at 1:16 pm
Way to go Boing, idiot. Anyway, I don’t see what is so great about Rubio in the first place. yeah he has the potential to be great playmaker blah blah blah, he also has the potential to be the biggest bust in a long time. It amazes me how GMs pick potential over proven college guys. Case in point, the 2004 draft. Just look at the lottery picks Shaun Livingston and and Sebastian Telfair. Then you got Jameer nelson who fell to #20

  • Seth Posted: Oct.6 at 1:21 pm
Headline to intentionally get us thinking Eddy Curry is better than Rubio?

  • anen Posted: Oct.6 at 3:01 pm
why are people going on about this it’s not even news I think we all know this knicks like curry thing. RR has a home already & staying put (MARCA interview he says he loves Wolves franchise) Khan expressed he doesn’t want to trade him at all but it depends after a WHOLE year has gone by to decide (it depends on how the current wolves roster does the coming season & how things fall into place) until then all this “news” is waist of space.

  • Jukai Posted: Oct.6 at 3:23 pm
Dfrance: In fairness, Livingston could have been off the hoo

  • rog123 Posted: Oct.6 at 6:29 pm
Darko and kwame could have been off da hook too . Bassy as well

  • ja lawrence Posted: Oct.6 at 6:29 pm
    Take that Jordan Hill.

  • Jukai Posted: Oct.6 at 8:04 pm
Rog123: have you never watched basketball before in your life? Livingston injured himself in a freak accident coming down awkwardly trying to block a shot and ruined his career forever. It’s not like Darko and Kwame and Bassy, who just aren’t all-star caliber talents.
Jesus, that really doesn’t need an explanation.

  • NBA kid Posted: Oct.6 at 8:18 pm
Jukai, he wasn’t going for a block, he was finishing a layup…

  • rog123 Posted: Oct.7 at 12:30 am
Livingston didn’t enter the nba injured. And from what I saw from his nba games, prior to his injury, he was nothin more than another guy who should’ve went to college

  • rog123 Posted: Oct.7 at 12:32 am
My point is that livingston was said to be a great talent just like those other guys, but couldn’t adjust to the nba

  • walty Posted: Oct.7 at 12:39 am
Stephen Curry all star in 2 years

  • Jukai Posted: Oct.7 at 4:50 am
Rog123: I don’t blame you for not watching the Clippers. Livingston was drafted by that bum organization right as they picked up Sam Cassell, so Livingston always played behind Sammy, seriously hurting Livingston’s growth. Still, Livingston was close to averaging 10-5 on 47% shooting in less than 30 minutes before he shattered his leg. If the dude had starters minutes and played on a team with any semblance of finishers, he woulda been downright near all-star.

  • catalan Posted: Oct.7 at 5:35 am
you can’t compare… curry is a shooter and rubio is a classic pg playmaker. walsh dumb.

  • Afonso Posted: Oct.7 at 9:34 am
    agree with catalan..

  • tavoris Posted: Oct.7 at 10:16 am
I agree Jukai…Livingston has (still) CRAZY court vision and handle. He had more than a few games with the Clips where he was getting 9 and 10 assists in like 15 minutes. If he had a decent J, he’d b starting for OKC now.

  • NUPE Posted: Oct.7 at 11:32 am
How did Rubio get so much hype? I’ve seen some of his tapes and yes he’s made some pretty passes but nothing to suggest that’s he’s so much better than Curry. Curry is as pure a shooter as it get’s and he can create his own shot. Most people are already handing the rookie of the year honor to Blake, but I think Curry could be the real surprise this year. Yes I know Morrison and JJ had similar potential coming in the league, but Curry has more abiity to make his own shots.

  • NUPE Posted: Oct.7 at 12:28 pm
Never mind I realize they are both different players

  • Flight Posted: Oct.7 at 3:08 pm
    So should I buy NBA10 or 2K10?

  • Jukai Posted: Oct.7 at 4:36 pm
Tavoris: Eh.. dunno man… Livingston still has that court vision, that’ll stay with him his entire life. But he looks really slow. That leap and explosiveness he had, it looks sub-NBA level. Not sure he’ll ever be a starter. He may wanna look in Europe (really sad to say, I rooted for that kid).

  • jarrett Posted: Oct.7 at 10:09 pm
Is Walsh delusional? I mean the KINGS workout is posted on youtube and I’m pretty sure I seen Tyreke having his way with Curry. With that beening said Curry still > Rubio
