Andre Miller Unhappy With Bench Role

Andre doesn’t mince words, and has made things a tad uncomfortable in Portland: “Miller, who is battling with Steve Blake for the team’s starting point guard position, also said he felt wronged by the local media. According to Miller, a one-sided, quick-to-judgment portrait has been painted that depicts the 10-year NBA veteran as out of shape, moody and overly protective — a player who wants ‘to bring the team down.’ Miller said that is not the case. He described himself as a team player who is solely devoted to playing basketball — someone who does not get involved in off-the-court politics. He also stated he is wiling to accept whatever role is given to him on a Blazers team that has been forced to balance high expectations with some unexpected drama during the first two weeks of training camp.”

Should have re-signed with the 76ers…
If you look at this team on paper, it would make sense for Miller to start. This all-the-sudden attitude that Miller has gotten is not good for this Blazers team. If it gets worse, they may need to trade him come trade deadline.

Didn’t think we’d have to wait long to hear this.

He’s getting what he deserves…. Should have stayed in Philly… Get that money man… Hahahaha!

He has every reason to be upset to back up Steve freaking Blake.

i don’t get why players cant take the manu/jason terry approach. Come off the bench, be a spark, and still get starter minutes. Miller I’m sure will get the time once he’s in the game. Its not who’s starting, it’s who’s finishing.

      Speak your mind, Dre.

cramzy, Miller isn’t one of those types that can come into a game cold. First, he’s the type of PG that needs to be in the flow of the game to be effective. He feels the game out from the start and then plays based of off that. Second, he doesn’t have anywhere near the offensive game capable of exploding for buckets like Terry or Manu. I’ve watched him for the last 2.5 seasons here in Philly, trust me, he’s not a change of pace PG, he needs minutes to get in the flow of the game.

He’s a pg… he doesn’t come in to score in bunches or hustle on the boards. He’s there to run the team. From the jump.

and it’s steve blake!.. i never thought he’d be a starting PG on a contending team in the league..

    • Z Posted: Oct.12 at 12:20 pm
      steve FREAKING blake. ugh.

    • roman Posted: Oct.12 at 12:32 pm
Steve Blake should just fall in line and let Andre lead this team.

    • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Oct.12 at 1:10 pm
Steve Blake is good, but Andre Miller should start. I don’t see what the big deal is.

    • funkdoc Posted: Oct.12 at 2:56 pm
Me neither. Andre Miller should start on every team where Steve Blake starts. More, I think no team other than Portland would start Blake. What’s the deal? I’d rather have a moody guy with leadership and hops running the team than an overrated, friendly, awesome dude who’s shaved from top to bottom.

    • Fat Lever Posted: Oct.12 at 3:20 pm
funkdoc, did you just say Andre Miller has hops? Seriously?

    • Jacob J Posted: Oct.12 at 3:47 pm
This has nothing to do with Andre Miller being unhappy with bench role at all.

    • Bryan Posted: Oct.12 at 4:22 pm
      Andre milller can’t even dunk.

    • black pinoy Posted: Oct.12 at 4:54 pm
miller is better than blake even with one leg

    • Anton Posted: Oct.12 at 6:33 pm
      Rose grins at these developments

When did Andre Miller have hops? I’ve been watching since he was at Utah and I don’t recall him ever having hops. Maybe he had them in high school, but just lost them before his freshman year. If hops can be lost between high school and university, then found again during a players’ 30s, I’d like to know how that happens since a resolution on this issue would greatly benefit me.

    • vtrobot Posted: Oct.13 at 9:39 am
forgot about funkdoc saying that andre has hops, he said that stevie is shaved from top to bottom. oh man, that’s funny. start roy at the point. start one of the other solid 9 or 10 SFs at that spot.

Ok topic is About Andre being mad…No Dre isn’t the whole point is that the media tried 2 put Dre n a trick bag. Dre has always been a player that kept his mouth. If he did feel that way the media would have bn the last 2 know. Dre shouldn’t be the start just be cuz n Blake shouldn’t start b cuz he started last season. It shouldn’t be hard all coach has 2 do is look @ pre season stats and film and the answer is clear. From where I stand Dre should start cuz he clearly out beat Blake n the preseason. That is all Dre wanted was the chance 2 show he is ready and he wasn’t tryN 2 make Blake like bad. That’s just how he gets down. Remember N the NBA “The Ball Don’t Lie”. Dre is the MAN…

Seems like what happened in Detroit last year with Allen Iverson. Either the players or management are doing something we as fans didn’t know was possible. You grab a career-starter, a guy like Miller in his prime, and you start the game without him ? You let Steve Blake get the intro ? Of course it’s a team game and all, but Miller is a starter, you start him ! You don’t go out and say the team won 50 games last year to justify benching that guy. Unless the players want it that way. I guess the players want to keep things the way they were, just like the Pistons did. So the new guy comes off the bench. That tells you how management and ownership are owned by players these days.
