Refs No Longer Allowed to Leave a Tip

Sorry, locker room attendants. Your days of receiving tips from the zebras are now a thing of the past: “The new collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and National Basketball Referees Association prohibits referees from paying tips or compensation of any kind to locker room attendants or other team or arena personnel for personal services performed for referees by such personnel during games. Consequently, team and arena personnel are now prohibited from asking for or accepting tips or other compensation from referees’ said the memo, which was signed by Ronald Johnson, the league’s senior vice president of referee operations. ‘This is an important change to the CBA,’ the memo states. ‘While we do not believe that the pre-existing practice of tipping locker room attendants has affected the integrity of the officiating in any way, it could be perceived in a negative light, and it is therefore best to eliminate this practice.”

what happened to that spot in the magazine were ball boys would tell behind the scenes stories about players? That was a pretty good idea, even if poorly exicuted.

At least the refs are still allowed to RECEIVE tips just before the game.

They should just eliminate the locker room attendants if this is such a huge problem!

WTF? How can giving someone 5 bucks to get your coffee and donuts be seen in a bad light?

Yeah sure… giving an attendant 20 cool ones to go and take KG’s kicks whilst in the shower really harmonises the ‘we not me’, adidas were after… :|

obviously taken from donaghy’s book, as the nba was “investigating” what was put on deadspin about him bettin with refs on who’s gonna tip who. The nba lacks such credibility, such as if lebron is gonna average .4 fouls throughout the playoffs while also getting around 20 free throws a game. enuf said.
