Stephen Jackson: No Longer Cap’n Jack

by Marcel Mutoni

The situation in Oakland continues to deteriorate, and the outlook is not very good for Stephen Jackson and the team.

Yesterday, a defiant Jackson announced that he gave up his captaincy of the team after two seasons of wearing the proverbial ‘C’. Jack then added that he doesn’t want the young players on his squad to follow his lead. Probably a wise idea.

The Mercury News has more:

Q: Why don’t you want to be a captain any more. JACKSON: Because I don’t want these young guys to try to follow me. I’m not a role model. I can’t be a role model to guys that make the same amount of money as me, you know what I mean?

Q: Can you not be Capt Jack on this team? JACKSON: I mean, being a captain was overrated to me, anyway. You didn’t do anything but go at the beginning to talk to the refs, and I didn’t want to do that. Being a captain is overrated.

Though he was careful not to voice his desire to be traded again, Jackson did say that he’d be willing to consider a buyout from the team (a highly unlikely scenario.) This is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better.

Oh, and because things weren’t crazy enough in Warriors-land, Don Nelson was spotted wearing Dallas Mavericks garb following yesterday’s practice.

Where Amazing Happens, indeed.

Trade him to the knicks please and thank you.

  • Jacqueline Mitchell

This is the best soap opera going right now in the NBA ,can’t wait for the next “episode”.

  • Clark

I hope he starts recruiting other warriors players to mutiny against Don Nelson. He could teach them how to play defense and slow down the game to a half court style of play, that would make Nelson go crazy…

  • Fred

jack wants 2 go 2 ny with harrington so the protege empire can compete with the starbury empire in the empire state!

    lol@ Clark.

I guess Monta Ellis is the new Captain. Either that or just give to to Biedrins. haha

Jack should end practice dressed in various team jerseys. Today should be the spurs….Tomorrow Team Olympiakos.

  • riggs

is he reverting back to his pacer days?

When it’s all said and done…Shaq will retire with Four rings.

    Nah, he never changed.
Stack Jack has always been the same cat. Personally, I think he hurts his trade value by coming out and demanding a trade in public, but that’s also the best way to shake management up.
But, Don Nelson is a snake man. Dude is shady as hell. Problems follow him everywhere.

Serious Jack, stop making it hard for me to like you.

  • Jacki Jormp-Jomp

I wouldn’t be too worried about Nellie wearing Mavs gear, his Hawaiian shirt and Hooters hoodie had beer stains on them

  • zyth

oh well, good that at least his family ain’t starving

  • Nad

Fact is, he can still play and help a contender, I mean really help! If Cleveland or Boston can snatch him it would be a gr8 move on their part! Probably wont happen though…

Wow Stack. You know it takes a lot for Warrior’s fans to boo you. I can’t believe said he can’t be a role model to the young guys (right after signing an extension based on the promise that he would do exactly that) because they make the same amount of money as him. News Flash Jack: You’re the 3rd highest player on the team since that little extension. Hopefully we get rid of him and his selfish attitude sooner than later.

“I am not a role model.” It’s an honor to be a captain, Stack Jack. Take it and stop being a wimp. And @Nad: If the Celtics get Stephen Jackson, I will run out on the streets of downtown Boston naked and screaming.

  • davidR

cmon b-rock, don’t be another clueless warrior fan. the problem isn’t the players, it’s nellie and the higher-ups. look at all the players he’s run out of town. dude needs to go.

  • davidR

*they have run out of town. they all need to go.

  • JoeMaMa

Tinsley him. I blame him AND front office. Give him a few more years and he’ll be broker than Sprewell.

I know Allen feels the same way I do on this: Karl and Nelson are two of the worst coaches ever but theyre such great quotes that the media lets them off the hook.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Morrow and Randolph need to start, for real. Corey Maggette needs his playing time, too. They have way too many 2′s and 3′s, and 1 big down low: Andris Biedrins. Kelenna Azuibuke will get shafted for Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry, which is a shame because he’s been one of the only consistent players on the team last year.

Turiaf is also not enough help down in the trenches alongside Biedrins. A big 180 turnaround from the too many bigs days, now too many undersized guards and really undersized everybody. Thanks Nellie/Cohan/Rowell.

I know we’d never do it, buy if he Spurs could get SJax and a player or pick for RJ, I think I’d support the deal. 15 mill per for RJ is insane. I’m afraid he’s gonna suck and get in Ginobili’s way. I know Jackson has a huge deal but its probably just barely more than 30 mill total for like 4 years…

  • http://www.goldenstateofmind.com B-Rock

@ DavidR – Trust me, I’m not clueless Dubs fan.I agree that this is mostly the front office’s fault and they are also the reason for our constant state of mediocrity. I don’t think it’s Don Nelson’s fault though. Yeah he has forced out Harrington and CWebb back in the day, but this is all StackJack. His whole “it ain’t me” attitude really irks me. The more time he spends on the roster while he has this attitude holds us back from growing into a cohesive, selfless, winning team.

  • rikson

Jefferson is waaaayyyyyyyyy better than Jackson…. but youll see soon enough! Dont like the Spurs, but RJ is going to have a great season, its just a perfect fit – best signing this season!

  • B-more Mike

Richard Jefferson better than Jack? Jefferson has no handle and can’t shoot 2 things Jack is really good at. And he straps up, attitude only problem. Does Richard Jefferson have an assist in his career?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Richard Jefferson has never been better than Stephen Jackson.
He’s just got a better rep.
