Welcome to Flip’s Doghouse, Nick Young

Despite a promising start to the preseason, Young finds himself on the outside looking in when it comes to Flip Saunders’ early-season rotation: “Lost in the euphoria of the Wizards’ surprising 102-91 road win over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday was that Flip Saunders appears to have settled on a rotation — and that doesn’t bode well for youngsters and summer league superstars Nick Young and JaVale McGee. Young got his first DNP-Coach’s Decision, while McGee played a total of 42 seconds near the end of the first half. ‘He’s shown inconsistency,’ Saunders said about Young on Tuesday. ‘He hasn’t shown an ability to grasp everything we’re trying to do, the way we, or ideally how we want to play. If one guy is screwing up your offense or defense, the whole team looks bad. I talked to him about that [on Monday]. He has to become direction oriented in order to understand what those assignments are. And be able to follow out those assignments.”‘

A little tough medicine helps mature the lad.

Ouch. I guess Oberto’s getting some of those minutes.

the thing that sucks, except the fact i have Young in one of my fantasy teams … is that we all know Young needs to feel comfortable mentally to perform … his inconsistency or consistency are soooo much influenced by the atmospher … No Thanx Flip ! … but maybe yes .. it’ll help him to mature ….

Translation of Flip’s coachspeak: “Nick Young is a gunner who plays no defense.”

The Wiz are winning (well at least one game) and looking good. No use playing a chucking youngster until he grasps what the team is trying to do (i.e. play better D and within the offense).

This is going to sound harsh but I’m not even sure if Nick Young is smart enough (in a basketball sense) to understand the intricacies of Flip’s playbook. If Flip is waiting for him to grasp the o and d schemes, he’s going to be in the doghouse for a while.

Yeah, Flip gave a diplomatic, yet cutting answer.
“Learn how to play, and you’ll get some burn. Otherwise, enjoy the show.”

I did hear, he is a little slow.

Nick Young- is on the court to do only one thing, shoot, and shoot sum more.

ouch is right. that was a bit brutal by Flip, but true. Young’s clueless on the court. McGee is going to be really good on the right team.

As a Wiz fan, Nick Young strikes me as a nice kid with a nice story, but he’s Gil 2.0 and he’s never gonna see the court. It’s a bit more concerning that Epic Vale may not play. That dude’s a cold stud. Still, Flip has me believing…we’ll see what happens tomorrow night in ATL

Flip obviously knows what he’s doing, Washington has a great chance to crack at least the top 5 seed in the East. His offensive game is nice, but I see Nick Young as trade bait considering the depth they have at the 2-3 positions.

I agree with nick young but not too much on Javele McGee he is a really good and mobile big man and has a good mid-range shot, athletic long, and hustles

Nick Young should really hit the (play) books hard. Become a student of the game. Learn some of the nuances that veterans develop, otherwise you’ll be on the outside looking in real soon and in 2 yrs time you wont even be in the L. Thats real right there.
