Matt Barnes: Still Mad About Last Year

Matt is on a better team this year, and he’s a richer man, but he wishes the “real Suns” had been around last year when he worked in Phoenix: “As happy he is for his friends, Barnes admits being ‘bitter’ about the Suns’ about-face regarding their style of play. ‘It’s frustrating, very frustrating,’ Barnes said. ‘Everybody’s talking about this team being old and doesn’t have it. It’s the same team we had last year, and now they lead the league in scoring, shooting and 3-point percentage. That’s what I thought I was going into … That first half of the season, with Porter trying to change everything, put a (damper) on my season and the team’s. Getting Alvin (Gentry) back at the end was great. No disrespect to Porter, it was just the wrong coach and the wrong system.”‘

we’ll have to wait til playoffs to see if the system works.

    • Dacre Posted: Nov.5 at 10:37 am
oh the system will work. firstly for reasons not to do with the suns: kidd is playing more minutes per game this year than he has in the NINE previous seasons….his numbers are at their lowest though. He’ll be worn out come playoffs. The Lakers will not have a healthy Bynum OR Gasol come playoffs. They will get to the WCF against a Nuggets teams that aren’t ready or a Spurs team that will be running on fumes.
And an angry MAtt BArnes with Orlando will just have to be there in the finals to greet them.

      Wow.

Wow you jumped on Orlandos bandwagon fast. Oh and sorry to say but Matt barnes is not a star caliber player so when Boston and LA meet in the finals maybe they’ll send him a postcard

whats not to like about Matt Barnes? Plays great defense (when inspired) cans threes and is a great versatile team mate for Stan Van Grumpy’s Magic.
I will stand by these comments.

      Get over it!

    • TMT Posted: Nov.5 at 1:49 pm
Because defense sells tickets… Well if you live in Boston it does.

Suns can’t play like that forever… I hope the players and fans know this. When Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire are gone, things won’t be going so smoothly.

Well done Mack. Next you’ll be telling us that the grass isn’t alway greener on the other side.

Generally that was the case last season, and this was the whole point of the article - Matt Barnes is angry because he thought he was getting to join a “run & gun” offense with the Suns. The past season was a pothole on the road to Suns success. I just hope there are enough pieces for a retooled run for the next two years. Certainly the length of Grant Hill and Steve Nashs contracts at present. What everyone needs to realise is that the Suns are essentially back on track to their PREFERED structure, this in and of itself will lead to a great run through the next 1-3 years. What happens after that, whos to say? But hopefully Steve Kerr (amongst others) realises what a BIG mistake was made moving away from this structure and hopefully the organisation as a whole can move through it.

I’m not going away from being a SUns fan either Mack. They weren’t always a “RUN&GUN” offense, thats come about with Steve Nash and originator D’Antoni, but with guards like KEvin JOhnson, Elliot Perry, Jason Kidd, Dan Majerle, Rex Chapman Paul Westphal amongst many others, there is a rich history of great floor leadership from the guard positions so there is not an issue with whats to come from this team per say. Everyteam experiences cycles of success over extended periods…. unless your the clippers.

-insert team name - can’t play like that forever…I hope the players and fans know this. When -insert 1st option here- and -insert 2nd option here- are gone, things won’t be going so smoothly. brought to you by random idiot post

The Celtics can’t play like they did 2 years ago forever… in fact, this season they will get knocked out early in the playoffs. Last year if it weren’t for some horrible officiating and dirty plays, the Bulls would have beaten them. KG is now a 13 point a game scorer, Allen is under 15 points a game, and Rondo has been to the freethrow line 8 times(missed 5 of them.) What a complete point guard! Eddie House has been playing fourth quarters now… with Rasheed shooting 40 percent, such a talented player! He’s seriously the most overrated player EVER. You always hear about how unstoppable he is, or how he’d be the best player if he tried harder… he’s like a poor man’s Derrick Coleman. I don’t blame Barnes for being upset still, Terry Porter was a joke. As was Shaq(he’ll bring the Cavs down just like he did the Suns.)
