Darko Has Had Enough of the NBA

It’s one thing to be glued on the bench in Detroit; it’s an entirely different thing when you’re going through the same motions in New York: ”The NBA for me is not the way that I want to be,” said Milicic, averaging 2.0 points and 8.9 minutes while having been benched for eight of the Knicks’ 16 games, before not playing in his team’s 128-125 loss to Denver at the Pepsi Center. “Looking forward, the stuff that I’m looking for is for me to play and for to me enjoy playing. I think right now the only spot for me is Europe. Because growing up and playing basketball, I needed the ball in my hands. I used to create for myself and I used to create for others. I used to play a lot. That’s the kind of stuff I’m looking for. And for me to get that in the NBA right now, I don’t think so. And I’ve got to be real.”’

    Wow about 5 years late.

  • Yesse Posted: Nov.30 at 9:39 am
I think the Nba has enough of him as well.

  • the rod Posted: Nov.30 at 10:01 am
    the nba ruined him

  • nastierthanu Posted: Nov.30 at 10:27 am
The league aint for everbody but man did detroit drop the ball on that or what. I’m personally going on a hunger strike to keep darko with us. Who’s wit me?

  • ciroqobama Posted: Nov.30 at 10:28 am
I hope wack ass Rubio pays attention to this

  • niQ Posted: Nov.30 at 10:29 am
Well he did play pretty well in Orlando. I simply see it as he never got decent playing time. If anyone could’ve revived his career it would’ve been Mike D’Antoni. But clearly, he doesn’t want to play him, nor does he want to play his draft pick Jordan Hill. Ah wells, better luck in Europe.

  • Z Posted: Nov.30 at 10:39 am
darko really has nobody to blame but himself. i just looked at the stats and orlando gave him 25 mpg for a whole year and he produced 8 and 6 on 45% shooting. the hype just got out of control, chad ford was talking about his 3-point range back in the day. he’s 0 for 5 from deep in his CAREER.

  • Sam Raphael Chadwick Posted: Nov.30 at 10:40 am
First time I ever saw him play was at the Knicks vs orlando hes 7ft his first shot was a rimmed out dunk im glad to see him finally leave the NBA, good luck in europe and Knicks you need to start playing Jordan Hill if not your wasting him away.

  • Darksaber Posted: Nov.30 at 10:59 am
So did he threaten the Nba’s daughters while he was stating this? Hehehe

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.30 at 11:11 am
Dude just wasn’t good enough. Hey, I don’t hate, go to Europe and get your money.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.30 at 11:26 am
Worst Pistons draft pick by far.

  • 360vue Posted: Nov.30 at 11:27 am
NBA Has Had Enough of the Dark days of Milicic

  • Izzo Posted: Nov.30 at 11:28 am
I still believe there was an NBA player in there somewhere.

  • NUPE Posted: Nov.30 at 12:08 pm
No shame in not being good enough to play in the NBA. If I could go to Europe and play the type of game and minutes that I’m use to, I’d do it. Maybe, just maybe he’ll find his stroke again, improve and come back. It will be interesting to see how well he does in Europe too just as a reference point to see how much of a differenc in the talent/levels of play there is between the L and Europe.

  • UnRel Posted: Nov.30 at 12:12 pm
i think Mr. Chappelle said it best… “when keeping it real goes wrong”… seriously, though.. although he was never going to be the player he was hyped to be.. he never became a solid role player either..

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.30 at 12:44 pm
So, Darko Milicic and Kwame Brown walk into a bar…………

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.30 at 1:46 pm
interesting idea NUPE. I’m wit that 100%.

  • d.j. Posted: Nov.30 at 1:49 pm
ya sitting on the bench in Detroit early in his career killed him, he never recovered after that, who knows if he can even play as well as he used to in Europe because he took a 5 year brake pretty much, it might take him at least a couple of years to feel comfortable playing ball again, but either i wish him luck…. he will never come back to the L thats for sure

  • nbk Posted: Nov.30 at 1:57 pm
so much for my (darko will win MIP eventually) prediction

  • ConeyIslander Posted: Nov.30 at 2:37 pm
Look at the bright side Darko you get to me a great player now…your a graduate from the Knicks pine academy. IE Doug Christie and Trevor Ariza.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.30 at 3:01 pm
The New York Knicks are so bad, even Darko Millic has quit on them. L-O-L

  • Big D Posted: Nov.30 at 3:38 pm
Just unreal. How do the Pistons pass up on Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, Chris Kaman, Kirk Hinrich, TJ Ford, David West, and Josh Howard for an almost unknown European player? They really got way too caught up in the hype. Same hype that Rubio and Toni Kukoc stirred up prior to their drafts.

  • bakers' dozen Posted: Nov.30 at 3:40 pm
the Nuggets are thanking the Pistons every day Melo plays.

  • LA Huey Posted: Nov.30 at 3:47 pm
I feel you, Darko. The NBA won’t give me the minutes I need or the role I want.

  • Don Posted: Nov.30 at 6:34 pm
Toni Kukoc was good. don’t say he wasn’t.

  • mike Posted: Nov.30 at 6:59 pm
i read that darko article by ford now and i really can’t believe it – we’ve never seen any of those supposed skills

  • MikeC. Posted: Nov.30 at 7:12 pm
Hindsight being 20/20, it’s easy to slam the Pistons for taking Darko #2. In their defense, their logic at the time was pretty sound. They had two All-Star bigs already. The plan was to take the very young Darko, and let him develop behind Rasheed, Big Ben, Elden Campbell, etc. Then, when those guys started to wear down with age (which would have been about 3 years ago if they’d stayed together), Darko would have been ready to play more and ease those guys into support roles By taking the unknown, they could let him sit, while developing in practice, without getting killed for it in the media. The mistake they made was not sending him to the D-League where he could get some PT and use his skills in real-game situations. He has all the physical tools and says the right things about wanting to improve and play. It just never seems to happen for him. What are the odds that Darko gets traded to NY, a team that seems tailor-made to utilize his athleticism and mid-range shooting, and miracle of all miracles, Eddy Curry loses a ton of weight (literally) and pushes Darko back to the bench. Jeez.

  • The Philosopher Posted: Nov.30 at 7:37 pm
It seems like he feels entitled. NBA guys are usually accurate when evaluating talent.

  • J Posted: Nov.30 at 10:25 pm
he can blame Larry Brown in his first year. seriously, the pistons didn’t give him a chance. but when he came to Orlando and Memphis there is really no one else to blame but..

  • Shem Posted: Nov.30 at 11:39 pm
Lets see: Darko Milicic has no jumpshot, He has no post up game, hes not athletic and hes definetly not a defender hes out there for his height and in the nba thats not even close to enough. Hes awful and Z was absolutely right he did get time in Orlando just imagine if Orlando picked Carmelo, that would be a dynasty

  • roybot Posted: Dec.1 at 1:53 am
    Darko has been freed.

  • J Posted: Dec.1 at 2:19 am
^ how could orlando picked Melo?

  • Joe_king Posted: Dec.1 at 4:49 am
    Just had toooo much hype.
    Oh and he sucked.

  • Shem Posted: Dec.1 at 8:03 am
Orlando had the 2nd overall pick, Carmelo was drafted 3rd. At the time they had Gordan Giricek starting with an injured Grant Hill coming off the bench so they we’re weak at the sf position too. PG: Jameer Nelson SG: Vince Carter SF: MELO PF: Rashard Lewis and C: D12

  • maio Posted: Dec.1 at 8:08 am
Told y’all back in 2002: Never draft a Serb who can’t grow a beard.

  • Dacre Posted: Dec.1 at 8:33 am
    Shem…..??
Cleveland had the first pick…took LeBron.
DETROIT HAD THE 2ND PICK…took Darko.
Miami had the third pick – took Dwade…. Where does orlando come into it…??
I’m trolling. Because you have no brain…??

  • RunningBrave Posted: Dec.1 at 12:26 pm
Any idiot can go over to Europe and play ball and score points like Wilt frickkin Chamberlain! As for Rubio, that boy is shook! He’s no fool. He’ll be the “man” in Europe too.

  • Cizzo Posted: Dec.1 at 12:42 pm
If Darko would have went in the second round he would problaby panned out better, with less preasure to produce, he’s a bust for a second pick most deff but I still like him has pro, good luck Darko the pro’s and con’s are a mother, kid hold your head up and don’t loose your love for the game!!!!!!!!!!!
