DeRozan on Jennings’s 55: Ho Hum

The rest of the world went nuts over Brandon’s Double Nickel, but DeMar saw it as nothing more than par for the course: ” As a kid growing up in Compton, Calif., Raptors rookie DeMar DeRozan saw plenty of amazing feats produced by Brandon Jennings, who posted the season’s most eye-popping moment by going off for 55 points in Milwaukee’s win over Golden State on Saturday. ‘When I was told what Brandon did, I wasn’t surprised,’ DeRozan said. ‘He’s capable of doing that easily.’ DeRozan and Jennings were on the same youth team in Grade 6. They each came into the NBA this past June. ‘I’ve seen him do a lot of amazing things,’ DeRozan said. ‘I remember one game where he had 27 assists. For him to score 55 points, that’s just Brandon.”‘

He’s right thought, I’ve seen some of his youtube mixtapes and Oak Hill games and this is the same brandon jennings

  • Dagger

Yes, but this is 55 points in the NBA. Believe it or not, there’s a difference.

I think we got DeRozan’s reaction wrong. I also got quotes from him on Brandon’s performance and ho hum was not how he was feeling. I’ll be posting those in a few. so I’ll add the link!

  • tavoris

he’s just not surprised at this. The title makes it seem like he was hatin’ a lil

  • Cizzo

I was at that game, I live in Milwaukee, Ho Hum my ass that kid is from a different planet, Fearless, fast and furious, I’m still speechless!!!!!!!!!!

  • tavoris

Cizzo, he really said that he’s seen ‘ish like this from Jennings b4, and isn’t surprised by his early success

  • tavoris

why GSW continued to go under EVERY screen. Milwaukee spent the ENTIRE game running the same high pick & roll from the right side, and Golden State (Nellie) didn’t do anything to counter it.

Cosign tavoris. The title is causing a misunderstanding.

  • Incubo

Yeah I had the chance watch him play while he was here in Italy. He didn’t play long but when he was in the game you can tell the difference. Good to see him convert over so well.

How can somebody get hot enough to score 29 in a quarter and you keep going under the screen! You don’t trap, you don’t double, you don’t hedge, you don’t do anything. You basically conceed open jumpshots to a kid who is on FIRE!
That had to be both the easiest and most entertaining 30 in a quarter I’ve ever seen. Dude was just stroking open jumpers for a long stretch of that quarter. But, his stroke was nasty. Nothing but bottoms on most shots.
Did anyboy notice that when the Warriors actually did apply pressure they had way mroe success containing Jennings? What the hell was Nelson doing?

  • tavoris

Allenp, it was like the Warriors just wanted to see how many shots he could make. They play with NO PRIDE, and that’s a direct reflection of their coach.

  • davidR

allenp, probably standing with his hands to his sides and his belly out wondering which brew to crack open after the game

  • tavoris

and I’d say 14 in the second quarter was enough to tell them that he was pretty darn hot.

I remember when Iverson dropped 50 twice int he playoffs in 2001. He had to work for that 50 even though he was on fire. Jennings was just crossing halfcourt, getting a high screen, and then hitting jumpers. It was like a drill.

  • tavoris

wasn’t Ellis complaining about Nelson the other day? I’mjus sayn…when a rookie drops 55 on u, it kinda makes u look bad.

Didn’t watch the game, only highlights. Were they double-teaming at all? Will be interesting to see how he handles the double teams which should be forthcoming. For ticket holders around the country, if you got stuck with Bucks tickets, all of a sudden, you’ve got one of the good games to go to!

  • tavoris

Jackie Moon, they weren’t even single-teaming. And he shouldn’t see many double teams once Redd comes back…

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

LOL. they weren’t even single teaming. AHHAHAH that made me laugh.

  • tavoris

I mean damn, at least the Raptors (when kobe dropped 81)looked like they were trying to act like they were playing defense. Players aren’t supposed to get shots that open unless they are on the court by themselves.

  • http://slamonline.com snasty10

@allenp, nelson must be going on a week long bender

  • tavoris

snasty10…that “week long bender” has been like 3 years now.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

part of it falls on nelson (most of it, actually). but some of the blame must fall on the players and their lack of pride on the defensive end. do you really need a coach to tell the guard to fight through screens and the big man to give a hard edge? that’s basic basketball. UNLESS they were specifically told to go under and sag and dare him to shoot. and i can’t see why they would have gotten those instructions on jennings.

  • http://slamonline.com snasty10

    touche tavoris

  • tavoris

Z-tru…especially since Golden State only really plays ONE rookie.

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

I watched the game on league pass and that boy is special BUT HE WENT ABSOLUTLY POSSESSED in the side of the court where the GSW were and Nellie was just enjoyng the show…hes funny like that, the man enjoys good basketball!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Anthony Randolph and Anthony Morrow need to get the hell out of the Warriors organization.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Derozen was heavily placed out of context in your titled here.

warriors organisation needs to get the hell out of the NBA.

  • tavoris

meanwhile, the Bucks are playing the Mavs…the Mavs are doubling Jennings as soon as he passes half court. I guess the Warriors didn’t realize that Michael Redd is hurt.

  • Shem

Guys, stop putting words in his mouth the title is deceiving. Hes not surprised because he knows brandon jennings is just that good. People are surprised because they didn’t know a rook who wasnt drafted high went off DeRozan knows what hes capable of

  • Buschfire

    misleading title.

  • tavoris

    Shem, we’ve…um…already established that, homie

  • mar

I really wish derozen would show up like that in a game he has tyreke evens potential
