Is Lawrence Frank on the Hot Seat?

His team is off to an 0-12 start, but a plethora of injuries may keep him from losing his job. For now, anyway: “So while he is most supportive of his coach, Thorn uses the word ‘realistic’ when assessing the situation. Be realistic in knowing how tough the situation is, but also be realistic in knowing the losing must somehow end. ‘If this continues, none of us are safe,’ Thorn said, providing neither a vote of confidence nor a condemnation of Frank … Still, should the losing continue, something must happen, although Thorn flatly said don’t look for anything on the immediate horizon. ‘I’m not anticipating anything,’ said Thorn who laughed that “as far as I know” any change would be strictly his call. ‘But I don’t see foresee anything along those lines (coaching change).”‘

How is the coach of an 0-12 team NOT on the hot seat?

  • TheBIG3 Posted: Nov.19 at 11:56 am
people in NJ gotta relax. you are missing your best player (Devin harris). your getting solid numbers from dudes like douglas-roberts and T Will. ya you are 0-12 but its not like you are sending your best guys out there.. Jay-z don’t support losers

  • Starchild Posted: Nov.19 at 11:58 am
if this were eddie jordan, mo cheeks, sam mitchell, or byron scott, he would already be fired! i’m just saying.

  • Co Co Posted: Nov.19 at 12:03 pm
D’Antoni should be on the hot seat too, but whatever.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Nov.19 at 12:05 pm
he’s not on the hot seat. The man has only 8 players. Douglas-Roberts is playing out of his mind, rookie Terrence Williams has two double-doubles, Brook is playing very well, and that’s all Frank’s got to work with. He’s not on the hot seat right now, and they will re-evaluate him when the team is healthy again and playing together for some time.

  • riggs Posted: Nov.19 at 12:26 pm
so the last few years doesnt put him on the hot seat? he’s a horrible coach.

  • Cizzo Posted: Nov.19 at 12:32 pm
Leave him be let him receive the worst record in NBA history!

  • Allenp Posted: Nov.19 at 12:33 pm
i really can’t tell if dude is a bad coach or what.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Nov.19 at 12:33 pm
no, the last few years didn’t put him on the “hot seat”. The Nets have been terrible the last couple of seasons. In ‘07/’08 you had Kidd traded for Harris, a young, completely different player than Kidd was. He all of a sudden had to be “the man”, and carry a team trying to adjust to his new role. By the way, a point guard change is always hard to do. Last season, they only had 3 (!) players from the previous year, with a lot of young players trying to find their niche within the squad. And this year? Well, this year ain’t no picknick.
I hope that answers your question, Riggs. Probably not though, but that’s how it goes.

I’m happy he is finally giving CDR minutes, but he really is a average coach at best.

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.19 at 12:39 pm
he has been without Harris all season. They traded their best overall player (Carter) and Ryan Anderson for two non-contributors (so far). Their second-best available player (CDR) had the freaking swine flu. Rafer Alston is playing like he’s a rookie all over again. The ownership-and future of the team-is cloudy. They’ve been GIVING AWAY tickets to the games. I think he deserves a bit of a pass, especially since he’s developing Brook Lopez and CDR so well. I think they will improve DRAMATICALLY when Devin Harris gets back.

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.19 at 12:48 pm
TADOne, no way CDR was gonna get minutes over Carter. He was the only way the 500 or so regular fans even went to the Meadowlands.

  • Z Posted: Nov.19 at 1:34 pm
they shouldnt be this bad. there is enough talent on the team.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Nov.19 at 1:52 pm
TADone: “finally” giving minutes seems like you thought it was due. But in his first season, CDR had a lot to learn, especially on defense. It’s because CDR worked so hard this past summer Frank is playing him. Just a heads up, maybe you didn’t mean it like that anyway. (and thank you tavoris)
I will watch Nets vs. Knicks Saturday, Harris will be back (maybe Lee too), and hopefully it will bring something good.
One final thing: I love Rafer Alston but damn, he really can’t hit a shot. Sorry Skip.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.19 at 2:05 pm
Yeah, I know he wouldn’t have been starting over Vince, but he didn’t seem to be in the regular rotation this year either until the injury bug hit.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.19 at 2:06 pm
But with that said, i’ve never bee impressed with Frank’s coaching acumen.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.19 at 2:09 pm
It’s funny — I wanted him fired long ago, but now I think he’s doing a decent job despite being 0-12. Go figure.

  • tavoris Posted: Nov.19 at 2:46 pm
Thanks for what, Gerard? I’m jus a bball junkie that likes competitive games.

  • niQ Posted: Nov.19 at 3:38 pm
Man, how is he still coaching with a 0-12 record..

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Nov.19 at 4:09 pm
@tavoris: you made a couple of good posts.
@TADone: he’s been in the rotation since day 1.
@niQ: read my posts, you’ll have your answer.

  • tmw554 Posted: Nov.19 at 4:12 pm
i thought he wouldve been axed a long time ago

  • Seth Posted: Nov.19 at 4:34 pm
New Jersey is pretty bad with or without Devin Harris, so Frank’s job could very well be on the line if the losing record gets outta hand. Supposedly Harris could be see game time this weekend.

  • erich Posted: Nov.19 at 4:52 pm
    @ starchild.
He isn’t fired because he is white ??????????
Come on you are better than that.

  • maclovenotwar Posted: Nov.20 at 7:16 am
hey, how come josh boone keeps getting minutes over sean williams? ESPN has been ripping terrence williams, but what i’ve seen has been nice. brook lopez needs to chill out sometimes. dude can’t post monster double doubles when he riding the pine with fouls. has anyone noticed that he can’t defend quality centres?

  • Doug Posted: Nov.20 at 7:30 am
cause mentally sean williams is just as bad as shawne williams

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Nov.20 at 11:00 am
ESPN are ranking Terrence Williams as 26th in the rookie list. 26th!!! Are you kidding me? The guy has 4 double-doubles already, that’s 3 more double-doubles than all the other rookies combined.
