It’s Now Don Nelson vs. Monta Ellis

The chaos in Golden State is so prevalent at this point, that these incidents are simply par for the course now: “After practice at the Reebok Sports Club in Manhattan, Ellis, Jackson and guard Acie Law were sitting on a bench preparing to leave when Nelson walked by. Ellis asked Nelson a question. ‘Coach,’ Ellis said. ‘Why do I get blamed for everything?’ Nelson replied, ‘What have I ever blamed you for?’ ‘For everything,’ Ellis replied calmly. ‘For everything. For people not knowing the plays. I didn’t do this. I didn’t that.’ Nelson waved both hands at Ellis, as if to brush him off, and walked off shaking his head. ‘See,’ Ellis said. ‘That’s why I won’t do it. I just won’t do it.’ It is unclear what Ellis was saying he won’t do, or what blame he was referring to as Ellis declined to comment afterward.”

Why is Don Nelson still a coach??? Seriously?

  • http://www.another48minutes.com Gerard Himself

if Byron Scott got fired, Don Nelson should be fired. Ridiculous. This is Knicks-two years ago embarrassing.
    Somebody, anybody, hire Paul Silas!

  • http://www.gmail.com rushmelo15

the warrior’s have so much firepower but they dont know how the hell to handle it!
    look at their team!
so what if they have an undersized backcourt???
they have immense potential and talent that’s going waste under Don Nelson…FIRE HIM!
get byron scott 2 golden state and i see them beating the shit outta the lakers!
    they’re such a young team
    anthony randolph’s looking great
monta should get back to 22-5-6 under byron.
S.curry should just be like he is…perhaps 2-3 more 3pt’s wont damage the offense
    beidrens rebounding and shot blocking
and the rest of the guys and da vet’s….ther’ye perfect but cant realize it because of their shit headed coach…who should’ve stopped coaching years back!
    player blaming-fatso!

I see a reoccurring pattern here. His name starts with “N” and ends with “ellie”. Why hasn’t one of the Warriors spoke up and said that trying to get him fired is so damn hard?

Sounds to me like Ellis is being an immature b*%ch. What kind of question was that? What answer did he expect? If he seriously wanted to discuss this he should have done so in private with Nellie or recognized that he is the highest payed player on the club and also (should be) the point guard. That comes with responsibility.

  • http://gmail dirty frank

I’m not trying to start a pro-Nellie camp here but it just seams that, in this case, he did nothing wrong.

  • http://www.twofistedpress.com Pve84

PRECISELY. I would expect a reaction like that from a teenage girl, not an NBA player who is paid millions. In any case, Nelson still needs to go.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Was it a coincidence that he was sitting with SJax at the time??

  • Jacqueline Mitchell

This whole situation with the Golden State Warriors is getting uglier by the minute. What a damn shame!!!

  • UnRel

@Dirty Frank.. i’m with you on that.. monta is or should be team captain (I don’t really know).. so maybe that’s why he gets all the blame..

  • http://thacorner.net/forums/ Kevin

It might be another strangling in Golden State before the season is over with

  • http://www.slamonline.com JL

if monta “the moped” ellis is their captain then they are really in trouble. Is there even one suitable team leader on this team? Turiaf? But he’s a bench player LOL.

  • Folkwolf101

The problem is not Don Nelson, and the remedy would not be firing Don Nelson and hiring Paul Silas. Black Southern ball players do not respond well to patriarchal white men, especially those barking out orders and discipline and in charge of their playing time. Sadly, for a black man’s sport you need a black coach to unite the team.

Can you imagine Stephen Jackson and Monta Ellis talking back to Avery Johnson? He’d be in their faces right away.

  • Folkwolf101

Stephen Jackson is the team’s cancer. So much negativity stems from Jackson’s tyrades. Who’s to say he wasn’t the one behind getting Baaron Davis riled up enough to leave the Warriors for the clippers? Who’s to say he wasn’t behind Al Harrington’s press for a trade? And now, he has Monta Ellis feeling all the more disgruntled and soon enough their prized Anthony Randolph will get antsy for a trade. Cut out the cancer to save the body. Get rid of all the whiners who cannot remember that the fans are the ones signing their paychecks.

There’s so much to address, I don’t even know where to begin. I’m living in the middle of it, so I get some slanted views here. However, in this particular incident, while Nellie isn’t 100% free of criticism, this makes Monta look like a pouty whinny girl. Basically he sounds how Anthony Randolph looks most of the time.

Clearly the Warriors need to start cutting some of their losses here. Take pennies on the dollar for Jackson and get rid of Monta, who has looked terrible this year. Seriously, stop just shooting mid-range jumpers. Forcing Monta into a PG/Leader role isn’t working and clearly he doesn’t want anything to do with that. That’s fine, he’ll realize eventually he’s a tweener who can’t guard either position. He may do well for another team, probably, but the fact is, Nellie is the reason he’s even half the player and paid like someone better than he is.

Jackson should have handled the situation better, but I have no faith that Bobby Rowell wouldn’t have screwed up even more so than he already did. Great extension, Bobby. How does it feel to have 50% empty seats in the lower bowl?

Firing Nellie? Hardly an option. No way this organization wants to continue paying ANOTHER coach. Seriously, they haven’t even figured out the Tim Montgomery situation other than bringing it to court. Maybe there’s something in the water over there since the Oracle Arena is on the same land as where the Raiders play.

Anthony Randolph has NOT looked good. I don’t know what games/highlights you’re seeing, but I’ve watched and closely at that. He’s clearly pressing. Maybe he’s banged up? Maybe he’s pouting because he wasn’t starting, but still, Nellie putting him in against backups hasn’t had him put together a wow-ing performance thus far.

    Sorry for the essay.

Does HTML work for comments? I didn’t mean for/want a big block of text few will read. lol

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

Nellie should be fired BUT JACKSON AND ELLIS ARE PUNKS!!!they are payd top dollar because of Nellie…in this case specificly Nellie isnt responsible at all…thats just Monta being a litle B!TCH…how can a guy be payed millions and cant be a true pro??!?!

  • Seven Duece

As much as people want to blame Nellie for everything, but what has any player on that team ever done consistently, besides show blatant disregard for authority and immaturity? I said a year ago, to break up the team. Still stands, if you can find a dumb organization to take them. *attention Memphis, New York and Los Angeles*

  • Shem

Fire him, first i thought it was jackson but its don nelson. The warriors are in the worst position in the nba. They are in the middle. They cant contend for a title and cant look towards the future. They wont get picks, they dont have cap. Trade everyone except for the young guys and fire don nelson and sign BYRON SCOTT… haha yeah i went there

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I want to know what Monta is talking about…? Who blames him for anything?

  • BostonBaller

Nwelson may be too old school for todays players but Monta can’t make half a statement and not finish it, it lacks credibility when you do that. It’ like a child yelling that their parents blame them for everything but can’t name any one thing that is glaring. As far as getting blamed for players not knowing the plays goes, if you are the leader you unfortunately shoulder some of that blame.

  • riggs

in this case nellie did nothing wrong at all.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Monta didn’t make a statement. A reporter was eavesdropping, reported a piece of a conversation, and y’all are running with it like idiots. Damn, cats really lack the ability to read and process information. Sure Monta sounds pouty, but we have no idea what the context was for his comments. None.

  • datnigtone

Nellie needs to be fired!!! Okay maybe some players have attitudes but your entire we believe roster? Come on u can say players fault up to one point but DAMN its time to go. Look if u stop gettin rid of players they would actually have a legit squad. J-rich(Brandon Wright??—please!!, BD(unless u like Maggette), Jamal Crawford(not that Curry can be just as good!!), S.Jack, Harrington, Pietrus, Barnes, Belinelli(Raptors),Arenas, Jamison, Webber (yea even the throwbacks!!Left cuz of Nellie) . There a few more i know but there are too many good if not great players going right thru this franchise its obsurd!!! Sell the team to the Oracle dude so he can clean house!!They trade Monta, i think am done .
