Jason Kidd Now 2nd All-Time in Assists

Last night, the great Jason Kidd became the second all-time career assist leader in NBA history: “Jason Kidd moved into second place on the NBA’s career assists list, Jason Terry scored 27 points and the Dallas Mavericks shot 65.5 percent in a 130-99 victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night. Kidd delivered seven assists to reach 10,337 in his career. He came in needing five to pass Mark Jackson’s career total (10,334), and now trails only John Stockton (15,806).”

Now i dont think Jason is really passing John Stockton.Unless he plays to the time when he comes 40 years old. Then it’s not impossible.

Nah I severely doubt anyone, anytime soon will come near Stockton’s total, Kidd is a supreme assister, he’s been playing pff 15 or so seasons? He’d would need another 5 or 6 seasons after this one to to reach John’s total if he keeps up with his current… then he would be wayyy past 40, he’s nearly 37 now isnt he?

Anyway, props to Kidd for his feat, he taught me alot about basketball, albeit indirectly, and more than some coaches!

  • nastierthanu

Yup j kidd is my age and he’s from the class of ’92 (high school). He used to serve up alley oops during all star games like no other. Saw him play in college. Texas southern vs cal. Me and a host of ballers went toi check out the hype around this kid. He didn’t have an amazing stat sheet. Maybe 13pts 6 or 7 dimes but his presence, ball control, and b ball iq was outstanding. I knew he’d be nice. He also liked to dunk of the right foot with his left. Unusual. Lamond murry was the effin truth though big boy soft jumper dribbles to. He was nasty

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

    classy vet..congrats!

  • TC

one of the greatest…..just an awesome player,

thx 4 watching and learning from one of the greatest pg ever!

  • Orlando Woolridge

Damn, JKidd is great, but to me this is more of reminder of how dominant Stockton was. Respect.

  • J-RO

only active player that might reach the top three would be Chris Paul…

  • http://slamonline.com ben osborne

Mark is still my main man.

  • dma

stockton also had the luxury of playing in an era of shooting with more than 10 seconds left on the shotclock as well as in a system with a lot of movement. the nba as we know it for the past 10 years emphasizes on isolation and dribbling the clock down to 5 before making a move.

Any young PG right now aiming for Stockton’s record? Chris Paul? Deron Williams? Jose Calderon? Rajon Rondo? Devin Harris? Or is Nash still making a run?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Congratulations, Jason Kidd!

  • LeoneL

It all comes down to the people they’re passing to. After all assists don’t count unless the shot is good. And Stockton happened to play with a guy who’s one of the best in finishing in the post. Still, nice piece of work by both Kidd and Stockton…and Mark too!

  • jk_light

he’s the reason for my screen name so I adore his game a lot and also tried to model my game after him. It already works as I was a bad shooter getting better with age and lost 3 steps on defense.

  • D-R

Laumol, Nash bloomed way too late for him to threaten Mark Jackson and Kidd, hell enough Stockton. The rest of the people listed after Deron Williams have no chance on general principle.

  • backboard

haha, jk light, nach deiner beschreibung wären wir zusammen das dynamische jk_light twin backcourt duo…..

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

    Congrats Kidd!!

  • Shuttlesworth_9

    Jason Kidd my idol. Congratulations.

  • rikson

Kidd is not better than Iverson…. WTF! hehe…

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Congratulations, JKidd. So you get a lot of assists. But can we still call you Ason Kidd because you have no J?

  • Toni Kukoc

so the Mavs consist of Ason kidd and Irk Nowitzki?!

  • buugi

if he keeps up his career average (like 9,1 or so), then he will pass Stockton when he’s 43- 44. Pretty unrealistic.

  • a_whiteman

    Jason kidd>iverson?????

  • Hoodsnake

Congrats JKidd…thing is he has gotten a lot of rebounds also and converted those into assists with his Marshall Bravestarr vision. Think his record as 2nd best will also stand for a long time and maybe he can push for a ring which will end his career on a sweet note

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

whiteman, thats a serious question?? jkidd>>>>>iverson! and i actually respect ai’s game.

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

I don’t think he’ll reach Stockton’s milestone, but prove me wrong.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Whoa. Stockton’s lead is huge, I really don’t think anyone will ever get close to his record.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Whoa. Stockton’s lead is huge, I really don’t think anyone will ever get close to his record.

  • jk_light

@backboard: From where do you know that I speak german and what would you bring to our dynamic duo?
The bricks, the bad defense or both. At least we have court vision and passing ability.

  • jk_light

Jason Kidd was the purest and greatest PG I witnessed while growing up and playing ball myself.

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

    OF ALL TIME!

  • Niio

Always loved Kidd’s game! Triple double threat every time he steps on the floor. No better rebounding guard/point guard in the game. Led his team to back to back finals, was robbed of an MVP what more can I say? Oh yeah does Kidd have a legit nickname? (not JKidd, or Ason)

  • LA Huey

Congrats, JKidd! And like everyone else has noted, “Wow, Stock. Wow…”

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

@Niio. It used to actually be Flash. Then people started called Wade that.

  • http://none The Philosopher

He’s what Michael Ray Richardson was supposed to become.

  • http://none The Philosopher

As far as serving alley – opps, Jason Kidd is the best of all time, better than Magic. And in his prime, no point guard in the NBA finished on the break better. Had he had a mid – range game, he’d own a 20ppg average for his career.

  • Shem

J kidd is 37 and is stil a good 5000 away. John Stockton really is amazing. He went several years averaging 17 pts and 14 assts. He was ridiculously consistent over 19 years and i forgot about how good of a guard he really was

  • Teddy-the-Bear

How does Jason Kidd average 6.7 rebounds per game his ENTIRE CAREER? Playing point guard?

  • backboard

@ jk – i know that you speak german cause i seen u write “Deutsch” on here before. I am on here everyday, ever since Lang started this ish… just because im not commenting doesnt mean i see stuff

What i would bring to the dynamic backcourt duo? Pretty much the same as you i guess, good vision, strong D – but loosing a step, i am white and i beat my wife… 1 of these is not true!

    Cheers vom Chiemsee!

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

Yeah, no way he’s catching Stock. Although, I’d take Kidd over Stockton as my PG, just because Kidd is defensively so much better than Stockton.

  • Adrian Zapata

Magic averaged 11.2 APG, had he played until the 95-96 season, and he played at least 78 games in 91-92, 92-93, 93-94, 94-95, and played a full season in 95-96, he would have 4368 more assist and a 16 year career (2 less than John Stockton)and that would bring his total to roughly 14,289. still short of stockton, but it gives u a great perspective of how great of a passer Magic was. For anyone who did not get to see Magic play, I believe he was the greatest passer of all time! If you go online to look for some games magic played in, dont look at highlights, try to watch a full game, highlights dont do justice of how great magic was at controlling the game. If there was no Larry Bird, Magic would have at least 7 rings!

  • Adrian Zapata

BTW Tariq, doesn’t Stockton lead the league in Steals all time as well?

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

    Adrian: So?

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

Adrian: Yeah he does. So what?

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

Iverson gets a sh*tload of steals. Is Iverson a great defensive player?

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ Tariq

What the fcuk is wrong with wordpress?

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Steals don’t necessarily mean a player is a GREAT defensive player, but they definitely don’t mean a player is bad at defense. If you can lead the league in steals, you’re an above average-to-good defender. Pip owned the league in steals because of his over-playing the passing lanes, which made him one of the best defenders ever.

  • http://none The Philosopher

Magic is the best player of all times. I’ll always and forever believe that. And it is the truth.

  • Holiday

Wow Tariq, Stockton didn’t physically match up well against the bigger guards but he was hard nosed and never quit! He was a great defender, and his Basketball IQ was way beyond JKidds!
