Manu Ginobili to Get Rabies Shots

Following his “incident” with a bat this past weekend (which has gotten PETA all hot and bothered), the Spurs didn’t want to take any chances: “Manu Ginobili’s Halloween run-in with a bat made for entertaining news fodder for a few days. Ginobili, however, isn’t laughing anymore. Team officials could not locate the bat after Saturday’s game against Sacramento, so it could not be tested for disease. Which meant Ginobili will spend the next month getting a series of precautionary shots to protect against rabies. ‘It was pretty funny at the time,’ Ginobili said before practice this afternoon. ‘Now, it’s not. I have to get like a million shots.”‘

    wow, talk about precautious! did the stupid thing manage to bite him as he hit it?! i thought that was how rabies was transmitted… a series of shots over a month?! i thought it was a one-shot job. mind you, i’ve never been known as Dr. SAB…

    I wonder who took the bat away and what they did with it? As soon as he hit it and the trainer came over and looked at his hand and saw the little puncture marks, the first thing I thought was they better get that bat tested. Rabies is really common with bats and the consequences of not gettng treated for it can be a lot worse than not getting treated. It sucks to go through it, but better safe than sorry. And, PETA is just being over the top. I agree with thier mission to protect animals etc, but they should take into consideration the circumstances. This is how organizations like them become less credible in the eyes of the public.
