    Rudy Fernandez Confused With Role

The Spaniard isn’t entirely sure what’s expected of him in Portland: “Right now, I don’t know my situation in the team,’ said Fernandez, who dealt with back spasms during training camp and missed four preseason games. ‘Blake play in the 2 (guard) position. For sure (that) is one more player in that position. Right now, I’m focusing in my work and taking (care of) my back. And when I’m on the court, play hard to help my teammates.’ Fernandez, a native of Palma de Mallorca, Spain, added that he is losing money by playing in the NBA, rather than starring in his home country. ‘For me, it’s wait my turn … and play hard,’ Fernandez said. ‘It doesn’t matter if it’s five minutes, 10 minutes or 35.’ Following Sunday’s victory, McMillan said that playing time is based on what his players do, and that every decision is made to try and win a game.”

His role is the shoot 3’s and dunk.

    • niQ Posted: Nov.9 at 10:33 am
      Kind of like JR Smith..

it’s tough when brandon roy starts in front of you

    • tavoris Posted: Nov.9 at 11:41 am
tough when you are playing behing Roy, Blake, Outlaw, and Webster for minutes at the 2 & the 3.

    • Z Posted: Nov.9 at 11:48 am
I’m not that big of a fan. He’s a chuker and he’s kinda reckless. I also feel that his athletic abilities are vastly overrated. I mean, he can get up but he’s no JR Smith.

Hes pretty athletic, very inconsistent and steaky… kinda like JR Smith

The Blazers have a great chance of imploding, with a firing of the coach to follow.

    • tavoris Posted: Nov.9 at 2:01 pm
Z…that’s precisely why he reminds people of Manu. It just sux for him that he came to Portland completely unaware that Webster was gonna eventually take all the reserve minutes. The one who should feel shafted is Batum. When he gets back, he’s not gonna even be in the rotation.

Portland might need to move somebody…even Bayless is playing a litlle and well…but DO NOT TRADE THIS DUDE!! HES A GREAT ALL AROUND PLAYER, ACTUALLY THE MANU COMPARISON IS VERY ACCURATE, great on court IQ, passing skills, great stroke and some hops

I want this guy on the Bucks so bad. Just put him at the starting two and let him thrive. Brandon Jennings to Fernandez alley oops? Yes please.

    • josh_guelda Posted: Nov.9 at 3:18 pm
ok so everyone seems to agree he is like JR smith. but he is not a thug wannabe and puts team first and himself second. he needs to get healthy and get himself out of that city. he could go just about anywhere and get decent PT and put up numbers and be great addition to any other squad. he is athletic he is quick he can shoot so stop hatin . i have no respect for any part of JR’s game

    • Hussman25 Posted: Nov.9 at 4:10 pm
Rudy would look WONDERFUL in a Sixers Jersey! Him and Iggy 2gether would be like going to the B&B Circus! Only if Andre would have stayed… Alley Ooop(s)4 days! (Serves u right for leaving for doe… ur backin up Steve Blake! *the two started last night together…* that won’t happen for long!)

    • tavoris Posted: Nov.9 at 4:29 pm
Josh_guelda musta didn’t see JR Smith in the playoffs last year. JR has as much offensive talent and athleticism as any SG in the league. And he’s not a thug-he’s a young knucklehead that didn’t have to grow up UNTIL he got to Denver. Oh, and the Hornets are probably regretting letting him go right now.

The unlikely combination of a marmot and a vixen may have shown Rudy a path into more playing time. http://tinyurl.com/yjo6l2b

Brandon roy should be the point on this team with rudy starting at the two. Why do coaches always get caught up in having these”traditional” lineups? the player who does the majority of the ball handling, decision making and controls the game in crunch time is your real point guard. EX. Lebron is clevlands pg delonte and mo are just their shooters. Absolutley no chance of a championship with andre miller and steve blake as starters lolol

      scratch
that rudy stays on the bench cause he is not better than their other two’s and three’s. but roy should be running the point

    • Z Posted: Nov.9 at 5:41 pm
When I said that he was no JR Smith, I meant that he could not jump like JR Smith. Not even close. Manu eats guys like Rudy for breakfast.

    • Mack Posted: Nov.9 at 7:40 pm
Rudy do you really know your roster? Brandon Roy is one of the top 5 shooting guards in the league. Martell Webster is back and playing very well. Unless you can do something other than shoot and dunk sometimes, good luck finding minutes in that rotation. Oh ya and Steve Blake can play the 2… on offense.

    • LeoneL Posted: Nov.9 at 8:48 pm
      Manu eats guys?! JK.. :D

    • mdshuai33 Posted: Nov.9 at 9:41 pm
I think they should go small, let LA rest and have one of their 4 small forwards slide over to the power spot, and run.

    • Aussie Boy Posted: Nov.9 at 9:47 pm
      Free Fernandez!

    • decriz Posted: Nov.10 at 12:40 am
      FREE RUDY!!!

    • Jukai Posted: Nov.10 at 3:16 am
The Manu = Rudy comparisons are ridiculous. Rudy doesn’t have the overall game Manu has.
However, I think Fernandez is highly underrated and could easily have a JR Smith like role on another team. He should NOT be playing behind cats like Webster.

    • tavoris Posted: Nov.10 at 9:38 am
Jukai, do u realize that their comparison doesn’t mean they are equal? It only means they have similar skill sets. Of course Manu is a better all-around player. He’s older & more experienced. However, Rudy (with hard work) can get to the same level, as he has all the tools (shot, athleticism, flair, lack of conscience).

    • Dacre Posted: Nov.10 at 10:07 am
He reminds ME of Brent Barry…if Brent Barry’s 2nd language was English.

    • NUPE Posted: Nov.10 at 11:28 am
He’s essentially trade-bait. Sometimes a team can be too deep and this is one of those cases. Trade him for a 4 or 5 where they are not as solid or deep.

    • Dave Posted: Nov.17 at 7:38 pm
Ii think he reminds people of Manu because he looks like Manu.
