The Browns Wouldn’t Mind LeBron’s Help

There’s a good chance that James is the best basketball and football player in the city of Cleveland. Something he doesn’t shy away from pointing out: “Browns coach Eric Mangini was delighted to hear Cavaliers superstar LeBron James thinks he could help the football team’s woeful offense. ‘I think he should come on down,’ said Mangini with a smile. ‘I know he’s pretty busy right now, but if he wants to give it a shot, the guy’s gifted, gifted athletically. He’s competitive. He’s tough. I’m sure whatever he applied himself to — he’d probably be good in baseball or soccer or swimming. The guy’s a freak athletically.’ Responding to a question about the ‘Monday Night Football’ crew saying he would be a great NFL tight end and has the ‘best offense in the city of Cleveland,’ James said, ‘If I dedicated myself to the game of football, I could be really good, no matter what team I was on.’ He acknowledged: ‘For me to say I could start over the rookie from Georgia [Mohamed Massaquoi] or [Brian] Robiskie, I don’t know. I haven’t put in all the work. I’m very talented. I take my abilities [very seriously].’”

    Please just stop talking, Lebron.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

He’s right though…he’s definitely built to be football player to…he’d be a heck of a TE.

  • d.j.

Lebron James is the best basketball player alive currently.. And he is right about being the best football player in Cleveland currently as well

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

it has been done before. gates played basketball in college, not football. of course, this is just people talking. kobe also said that he’d be an incredible red zone receiver for the iggles. i don’t know if kobe could take an nfl hit though.

  • peter

who cares if he’s right…who says that sort of thing with a straight face. I’m very talented…yeah we all know you are Lebron, you don’t have to point it out.

  • TheBIG3

lebron needs to shut his mouth and play basketball. there is no way that anyone would LET him play football. his agent, sponsors, the Cavs. He is hurting the browns by responding and playing along with this crap. Ya he is a freak athlete in the NBA, but I’m sure every linebacker in the NFL would love to see his 6’8″ frame running across the middle… JACKED UPP!

  • http://fdjklf.com Jukai

Didn’t Mark Murphy say that Lebron was one of the top-five best wide receivers he has ever seen when he was in HIGH SCHOOL?

  • Doug

why do people take a question asked by the media and make it such a big damn deal..they have been makin “lebron could play in the nfl” comments for years..its never gonna happen so why not let it go?

  • http://www.another48minutes.com Gerard Himself

in other news: the U.S. Skating team hopes to get LeBron to join them for the Winter Olympics, he sure can help.

  • onions baby onions

haters calm down please..he’s not hurting anyone with these comments, he’s just boosting his swagger a bit. If you’re 6’8″, 275, and can pluck change from the top of a backboard, its not being cocky to say you are athletically talented, its just a statement of fact.

Come on ‘Bron, this football thing would be a good idea until you get laid out over the middle by Ray Lewis or stretched out by Troy Palamalu

  • riggs

lebron wouldnt make a good TE he would be a great fullback though, a hybrid back like brandon jacobs since its hard to take him down. why wouldnt he be a good TE? he’s quick for the NBA not for the NFL.

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

Riggs: I’d actually disagree with you there. I think he’s faster than most NFL players, certainly more agile and can leap far greater.

  • youngmuggsy

riggs- Fullback? You really think diva Lebron would be even the slightest bit interested in blocking? And at 6ft8 it’d be too easy for defenders to wrap his legs up when running the ball. He’s got all the physical tools to be a good reciever though.

  • youngmuggsy

Jukai- I think you’re underestimating the speed of players in the NFL. There are players in the nfl that could be legitimate olympic level sprinters.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

co-sign youngmugsy there. nfl speed and nba speed are two different things. chris johnson was running under 10.4 on the 100m in high school, no nba player can come close to that time. however, it’s freaking ridiculous to pretend that bron couldn’t take a hit across the middle. gimme a break, he’s 260!

  • http://Slamonline.com NUPE

Bron could be a heck of a TE/WR. Would not be the fastest in the L by anymeans, but he’s a great athlete. He could physically take a hit, but not all athletes have the heart to get hit going over the middle. I think his best position would be safety though – he’s fast enough for it, great size and mobility etc. But, obviously he’ll never play in the NFL.

You know who else could use LeBron’s help? The New Jersey Nets… play wit it

  • Cizzo

Lebron is big and strong and just as soft!!!

  • underdog

He should be the first pro sportsman playing simultaneously for a NBA and a NFL franchise.

  • http://www.realcavsfans.com Anton

More. I want to know more about him.

  • vmcb

    Anton makes me laugh.

  • http://www.sixers.com 360vue

I saw the title and thought it was referring to Larry and Herb at the cats, lmao, that was a confusing thought! Gotta say LBJ has once again shown his charismatic, endearing and simply lovable personality, he should run for president; I mean he is talented! Am i right?

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

    JD: Or entertainment

  • Rusty

Dude has yet to win anything in the NBA besides an MVP trophy and he’s talkin bout the NFL? B*tch please.

  • Michael Scorn

There is nothing that is actually happening that is worth talking about?

  • jrb

stick wit ur nite job bron

U hatinga** kobe loyalists are some emotional clowns. A reporter asked him a simple question and he answered it, whats so wrong with that. If he ignores the reporters, u guys start talking bout his arrogant and a spoiled brat. Yall just love to hate anything bout this dude huh.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LOL @ people who say Rugby is better than Football because there aren’t any pads.
The hits in football are WAY harder than the one’s in rugby, because the padding and helmets allow the players to tackle from the head. In Rugby, tackling from the head is illegal and guys just go for the legs for easy takedowns… But in football, tackling the legs usually leads to injury.
Also, football is a much more complex game than Rugby, in that the number of plays and routes teams need to memorize is far greater than Rugby. Football is a game of organizing and executing gameplans. Rugby, broken down, is a game of keep away and the occasional scrum–its football minus everything else but the lateral and the kickoff. That’s probably simplifying it a bit too much, but I hope that proves my point.
No offense to rugby. I just don’t like hearing about how American Football is an inferior sport because it isn’t played in Europe.

  • RedRum

Lebron, love you my man, you are the best player I have seen since MJ (yes, he is better than Kobe) but stop talking… win a ring first.

  • boogster

Bron`s better than Kobe?! so you wish…
Lebron: I am talented… so are every player in the NBA, NCAA, NHL, MLB, NFL, and every other professional leagues around the world, none of them has bigger mouth than you have.

  • boogster

also i`ve noticed that he has been referred as a King a lot less lately, which serves him right.
